Aurora woke up in her dorm room, feeling disoriented and confused. She looked around, trying to remember what had happened the night before. She remembered following Ygriv into the forest, and seeing the glowing tree. But then, everything had gone black.
Aurora saw Ygriv changing his clothes and grabbing his books, and she immediately asked him what had happened the night before. She wanted to know how they had gotten back to the dorm room. Ygriv looked at her, confused.
"What are you talking about?" he said. "I didn't leave the room last night."
Aurora's eyes widened in surprise.
"What do you mean?" she said. "We went into the forest together. You were standing in front of a glowing tree."
Ygriv shook his head, looking serious.
"I don't know what you're talking about," he said. "When I woke up, you were sleeping soundly in your bed. I never left the room."
Aurora felt a sense of confusion wash over her. She didn't know what to think or believe.
"But it felt so real," she said, her voice shaking. "I saw the tree, and I heard this strange humming sound. And then, I fainted."
Ygriv looked at her sympathetically, his expression serious.
"Maybe it was just a dream," he said. Aurora nodded.
"Okay," she said, her voice quiet.
"Let's go to class. I’ll see you in History!" Ygriv said to her.
She walked back to her bed, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. She lay back down, trying to calm herself down.
But then, she saw something that made her heart stop. On her nightstand, there was a small, glowing object. It was a piece of bark from the glowing tree that she had seen in the forest.
She reached out, touching it with a tentative hand. As soon as her fingers touched the bark, she felt a surge of energy flow through her.
Suddenly, she saw a vision. It was a woman, with long blonde hair and piercing gray eyes. She was sitting in front of a large, glowing tree, just like the one that Aurora had seen in the forest. But this time, there was something different. The woman was holding a baby, wrapped in a white blanket.
Aurora felt a sense of shock wash over her. She knew who the woman was, and she knew who the baby was.
It was her.
Suddenly, the vision disappeared, leaving Aurora alone in the darkness.
She sat up, feeling a sense of fear wash over her. She didn't know what was happening, or what it meant. But she knew that she had to find out.
She got dressed and left the dorm room, determined to get some answers.
As she walked through the halls of the Academy, she felt a sense of urgency building inside of her. She knew that she was getting closer to the truth, but she also knew that she was putting herself in danger.
Finally, she came to a door. It was the door to Guide Luria's office.
She took a deep breath, and then she knocked.
There was no answer.
She knocked again, feeling a sense of frustration building inside of her.
Still no answer.
She tried the handle, and to her surprise, the door opened.
She stepped inside, she looked around, trying to find some clue as to where Marina might be.
But then, she heard a voice.
"Aurora," the voice said, her voice soft and gentle. "I've been expecting you."
Aurora turned around, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. She saw her aunt Marina standing in front of her, her expression kind but serious.
"I guess we need to talk," Marina said.
Aurora was still in disbelief, so she asked her aunt Marina to tell her more about her family's history. Marina was happy to comply and started telling Aurora about their childhood. Marina, as a nonmajka, was relegated to do all the chores, while Muna had the privilege of starting her majka training from a very early age. Despite their differences, Muna and Marina were very close and the best of friends.
Marina then took a deep breath and shared with Aurora how they received the news of Muna's passing. It was a tragedy that shook their family to the core, but then something unexpected happened. The Academy presented them with a little baby that appeared on the shore. Headmistress Friedham, herself, warned Marina and their family about the prophecy and how it should remain a secret for as long as possible to protect Aurora.
Aurora was fascinated by the story and asked Marina more about their family's history. Marina revealed how their parents had a difficult time accepting that Muna had to be the only one to inherit all the majka. Marina, on the other hand, had a different calling, which was to help those less fortunate than her. She had a passion for volunteering at the local shelter and was even awarded a special commendation for her service. Marina was grateful for the life she was living now, but she still missed Muna and wondered what could have been if she was still alive.
Aurora realized how much she didn't know about her family's history, and she was thankful that Marina was willing to share it with her.
Marina was concerned about Aurora's emotional state and wanted to make sure that she was doing well in school. She knew that Aurora had been through a lot recently, and she wanted to be there for her.
Aurora was grateful for Marina's concern, and she took the opportunity to update her aunt on everything that had happened at the Academy. She told Marina about the detention days she had received for misusing her majka, and how she had accidentally cast the Finite spell on her fellow students.
Marina listened intently, and she could sense the frustration and anxiety in Aurora's voice. She knew that being a student at Aelhollow Academy was not easy, but she also knew that Aurora was strong enough to handle it.
Marina reminded Aurora that she was part of a long line of powerful majkakins and that she had the strength to overcome any obstacle. She encouraged Aurora to keep practicing her majka and to never give up on her dreams.
Aurora felt reassured by Marina's words, and she promised to work harder and be more careful in her practice. She knew that she had a lot to learn, but she also knew that she had the support of her family and friends.
As they talked more about their family history and their shared memories of Muna, Aurora felt a sense of connection and belonging. She knew that she was part of something bigger than herself, and that she had a purpose in life.
Marina reminded Aurora of the prophecy and the significance of her role in it. She urged Aurora to embrace her destiny and to use her powers for good.
As they said their goodbyes, Marina hugged Aurora tightly, and whispered a few words of encouragement in her ear. Aurora left the office feeling more confident and hopeful than ever before. She knew that she had a long journey ahead of her, but she also knew that she was not alone.
On the other side of the Academy, Headmistress Friedham is looking out the window, directly into Guide Luria's office, observing Aurora embracing her aunt Marina. She's clutching her hands behind her back, lost in thought. Suddenly, a loud knock on the door interrupts the peaceful silence. Friedham, with a hint of surprise, lets the person in, informing them that the door was open. As the door opens, we see First Majister Hubertus Lange, a man of small stature with dark brown hair and a golden lock of hair falling beside his face. He was wearing a purple suit with emerald embroideries that looked expensive and a matching emerald green bowtie. Friedham greets him and reminds him of their appointment, and the two begin to talk business.
First Majister Lange's face is grim as he informs Headmistress Friedham of the grim situation brewing in Vaxan. He tells her that Vaxan is building and manufacturing an alarming amount of war equipment and armory, and training more soldiers than ever before. The Faedell System is at risk, and war maybe on the horizon, something they have always feared. Lange goes on to explain the intricate details of the conflict between the two systems, outlining the potential consequences of the ongoing tensions. He suggests that they must act fast to avoid an all-out war, and that they must start planning and strategizing to protect the Faedell System.
Friedham listens intently, nodding empathetically, and takes notes on the key points highlighted by Lange. She agrees with him on the gravity of the situation and the need to act quickly but carefully. They go over various scenarios and possible solutions, discussing the feasibility and implications of each one. They both realize that the road ahead is treacherous, and as they explore possible solutions, Lange mentions the elephant in the room, the Faedell Taking. This is a difficult path to choose as it involves sacrificing three souls who are willing to give themselves up for the greater good. Friedham agrees, but she is aware of the emotional toll that such a decision would have on those involved.
After much discussion, Lange emphasizes that the Faedell Taking would be the best way to save millions of innocent lives and stop the war. Friedham understands the consequences of this decision, but she also knows that the safety and well-being of the Faedell System are at stake.
As the meeting ends, Friedham is left with a heavy heart, knowing that a difficult decision lies ahead. She must weigh the cost of sacrificing three lives against the potential loss of many more. The fate of the Faedell System rests in her hands, and she must make the right decision.
