This caused Franklin to smile as he charged at Maxwell in turn. Franklin enjoyed the fact that Max did not give up easily nor did he ever fight with the intention of losing even when his opponent had powers. He remembers some of the kids that used to bully him and Theo when they were younger. He remembered how some of those kids had super powers even if it was only making little chunks of ice barely the size of a quarter to throw at other kids.
His mind couldn't help remembering how when those kids tried to bully Maxwell he beat them up pretty bad and they never tried to do it again. Franklin remembered looking up to Max because powers or not Max was always fearless when it came to fighting. He considered Max and Theo to be the only ones really worth competing against.
They are his best friends and his rivals. That's why he couldn't help but be happy. Even seeing that even though Maxwell is clearly at a very low point based off of how badly he's let himself go; Max still has that desire to not fight with the idea of losing. He sees in his eyes that same fire burning that he remembered even when they were tiny children.
As the two prepared to land their blows the battle began to intensify. Franklin primarily fought with the style of a traditional kickboxer. While Maxwell on the other hand was a natural talent in combining both primary types of traditional boxing fighting styles with Japanese jujutsu or Muay Thai. Even without the training Max was a natural talent when it came to fighting. Franklin couldn't help but to worry about what would ever happen if Max actually learned how to fight properly.
Those thoughts subsided as he lost himself in the clash. He went for a left straight only to have it blocked and countered by Maxwell's right hook. Franklin was focusing his ability to absorb all the damage from that punch.
Franklin then tried to do a kick to Max's left abdominal area, but Max caught the leg with his left arm wrapping around it trying to pull Franklin off his feet and he countered with a elbow to Franklin's chest. Like before Franklin absorb the damage even as the momentum of the hit knocked him off of his feet. But as he was falling his other leg went to kick Maxwell in the chin. This blows successfully landed and he put the damage he absorbed into it with his own making it hurt worse. Thus causing Max to let go and stumble back.
The two re-engaged after Franklin jumped back onto his feet and Max steadied himself. Franklin went for a kick against Max's right temple only for Max to block the hit and go for a gut punch. As Franklin absorbed the damage he tried to go for a left hook against Max as a faint with his real attack being a right uppercut. Maxwell was sharp enough to recognize what Franklin was trying and he saw through the faint and dodged the uppercut.
Franklin went for a right jab only for Max to block the hit and use the momentum of his block to spin around behind Franklin and elbow him in the back of the head. Franklin remembered this exact move from a previous fight and anticipated it. This time he protected himself with damage absorption and went for a left back fist, which Max dodged without looking as he expected it.
Franklin on the other hand was not expecting that as Max came back to a full stand now face to face with him. He would also go for a left uppercut. This blow hit Franklin square in the chin and he was not able to absorb it because he could not see it at the time and react. As he stumbled back he stood next to Theodore who was back on his feet.
As all three of them stood in close range of each other they stopped for a second to lock eyes. They prepared for another charge only for Lalupita to shout, "Stop!!!"
The three of them hearing her immediately lowered their guards and looked in her direction. She walked over with Logan and Jackie. They also noticed now that they're sparring match was over just how many people in the park had stopped to watch.
Lalupita complimented and critiqued them, "That was an admirable showing boys. Max, I am proud to see that even against two opponents with powers you are still holding your own quite well. However you happen to be trying to brute force your way into understanding your opponent's abilities. In a sparring match that can be useful, but in real combat it could get you killed due to your lack of powers yourself. Try to find alternative means to achieve that goal. Franklin, your power seems to be quite useful especially in combat, protecting you from harm and allowing you to dish out that harm back to the one who tried to deal it. If you hone it well it may prove to be the best offense and defense anyone could ask for. Theodore, I could see how tactical you were trying to be throughout the entire fight. You tried to stay back and play support while also looking for moments when to strike, but you clearly still are using up way too much energy to use your powers. When you can solve your energy management issue and get your timing down a bit better, I think you'll become a real force to be reckoned with in this world."
The three boys smiled hearing the compliments and they all thanked her for her kind words and wisdom. Logan then reached into his pocket and pulled out 3 small vials that contained purplish blue liquid.
"Here. I always keep some basic healing potions on me in case of emergency. I got a couple more so don't even worry about it. Drink up and heal up," Logan instructed them as he gave over the small vials.
This wasn't the first time that the boys were given health potions after a sparring match and so they drank them and watched as their injuries and pain instantly started going away as if nothing ever happened. All three of them felt a lot better and breathed a collective sigh of relief.
