Chapter 2.
Serenity and memories.
It was evident that the girl, as soon as she was discharged, was notified to try not to use her voice or make an effort to speak, because if she did, she could end up breaking the small connection that remained between two of her vocal cords, and she would permanently lose her speech.
Susan understood the situation; and in fact, it's not that she had big words, she simply resigned herself, but really that was what she wanted. Although her father was an optimistic and energetic man trying not to let her notice that they were financially suffocated, Susan was aware that the debts amounted to a stratospheric sum, which only if they were millionaires could they pay, in fact, it had fallen to her hide from collectors for practically his entire life, because sometimes, they would enter his house and take what they considered to be of greatest value, and when there was nothing valuable that they could take, they would beat Rick, his father, until he lost knowledge.
Her stepmother always hid her whenever she sensed the imminent dispossession and certain beating of her. It was really the best thing Laurel could have done for her, because if at some point the bullies disguised as debt collectors had found the girl when she was younger and could barely go to school, her only destiny would have been to increase the immense amount of children who lose their names, becoming the most vulnerable and desired victims of the unfortunate people who get rich from organ trafficking; and also, of pedophiles, sadists and pedophiles, who enjoy acts as impure, despicable and repugnant, such as the unlimited abuse of defenseless minor creatures.
Furthermore, Laurel had a positive connection with her, which was perhaps enough to earn her respect, even if the rest of the time she seemed a little tiresome and bossy, always demanding good grades; good school and family behavior; do not talk to strangers and do not receive any gifts from them; and much less, if these strangers used the name of her real mother, Emily Hard, to approach her.
However, there was very little that Susan remembered about her biological mother, although distantly in her memory, there remained the image of a warm loving smile, which a blonde woman with light eyes dedicated to her while lulling her until she fell peacefully asleep... She also believed remember some delicious cakes that beautiful blonde woman prepared and gave her to try with infinite patience and tons of love.
The relationship between Rick and Emily was that of someone much closer to lovers; and her father really looked immensely happy when he came home and Emily was waiting for him with warm cookies and a coffee full of love... All that warm treatment lived in her distant memories; and also, a golden key with a quartz in her grip was the only thing she had left to remember her real mother... That key was given to her by Emily before she died; She simply remembers that her last words before going to the hospital and never returning were to hide that key, even from her own father, because in the future that key would open the doors to a new world, and she, although very small and innocent, obeyed her and hid the key in a music box where there were some photos of Emily, and then buried it in a cactus pot that decorated the bookshelf in her room, where there were usually books, notebooks and many colored pencils, which she used to calm her anxiety by drawing lines, until she could return to normal, feeling serene and safe when she pricked her hands with the thorns of the cactus that faithfully kept the memories of her mother.
