Paper Guy & Slappy Man Series Thumbnail
Where do I even begin with Paper Guy and Slappy Man, they're the characters that started it all, the very first Hurtmyhead Comic was one involving these two dudes! I always get a little sentimental thinking about it, writing comics has been such a journey for me and if not for Paper Guy, it wouldn't be where it is today.
This picture is a parody of the Sorry for Party Rocking album cover by LMFAO, I used to listen to a lot of party rock, specifically LMFAO back in the day, I can't believe my parents allowed me to listen to this album when I was 10 years old, most of the songs have incredibly vulgar lyrics, but I guess my younger self just enjoyed the jams and didn't look too deep into it, which I guess is a good thing. When drawing the thumbnail for a duo as iconic as Paper Guy and Slappy Man (for me, at least) my mind went straight to Red Foo and Sky Blu, even though they no longer make music together, it's absolutely undeniable the effect they had on music today and myself as a person.
Sorry for Party Rocking is an album I re-listened to in full recently, and it's just as good as I remember, each moment of every song just took me straight back to middle school, when I wrote my first Paper Guy comic in the 6th grade, party rock perfectly describes Paper Guy & Slappy Man, they're best friends who are always up to something ridiculous, they keep it fresh and of course, the very first episode of their reboot series is about getting wasted.
While I probably didn't have too, I knew in order to properly write drunk characters (which I've been wanting to do for a while) I needed to get plastered myself, on my cousins' birthday (which also happens to be Canada Day) I went to the bar for the very first time with her and our friend, since I wasn't buying, I drank so much I spent more time on the floor than standing up and the beer in my hand literally had to be taken away from me before I do any more damage to myself. Admittedly it was a terrible idea to drink that night because I had a 12-hour drive waiting for me the very next day, I was extremely hungover the entire time and was possibly the worst I've ever felt in my entire life, not fun. The drive itself isn't too bad though, 12 hours may seem like a lot, but I'm Albertan so it's completely okay, I was so tired and cranky near the end I decided to stop in a record store for a while to cool off (I had to parallel park for the first time since my driving test lol), before the anecdote gets a little to off-topic, I'll end by saying why hasn't LMFAO made vinyl records of Sorry for Party Rocking? Sure it might not have been the right time in 2011, but I'm sure there's a huge market for it, it is one of the quintessential party rock albums after all!
Since drawing a rendition of Sorry for Party Rocking requires a female for the middle part, I decided to draw none other than Amnesia from Weirdly Feathered, she fits right in! Who knows, maybe her or some other characters from the Dr. Quack universe will make a cameo in this series, anything is possible in Paper Guy & Slappy Man!
