Felicity Brekken is destined to die. As the maid servant to Odessa, the sister of the tyrannical Duke Leon Elrith, otherwise known as Duke Inferno for his fiery temper, she’s always the first to perish in the game she inhabits, Three Chances for a Kiss. But something’s different this time around. Felicity becomes possessed by the spirit of Gabrielle, a long-time player of the game. Gabrielle is sure that - now that she’s in control of Felicity - she can survive and not be the first character to die.

At first it really is just a matter of survival: Avoid Duke Inferno’s wrath, and matchmake Odessa with one of the three handsome suitors that Gabrielle, as an avid player, is very familiar with. What she hadn’t anticipated is the Duke developing an intense attraction to her - and demanding she ruin his sister Odessa’s chances at love. While Gabrielle - forced into the role of the Duke’s servant - goes along with the scheme to keep herself alive, she finds herself drawn to the fiery Duke.
