“Any particular reason you asked me on a date? Or did you just want to see me again?” I asked with a small smile. He looked down, smiling nervously. “Both... I have a question to ask...” He kept looking down. “Ask away.” He looked up, still not looking at me. “Do you... like me back, or were you just being nice?” He asked, his face turning a slight bit red. I could feel my face heat up. It wasn’t visible, but I knew I was blushing. I didn’t want to lie to Brandon, but did I really want to admit that I like him? I looked away, not wanting to answer. He looked down, his face turned back to normal, that slight bit of red that covered his cheeks faded away. “You were just being nice. Why did I think I had a shot with the hottest boy in the grade.” He mumbled; he stood up, preparing to walk away. He started walking away, I grabbed his arm. I acted like it's a stupid romance movie. “I... fuck how do I say this without cringing mentally. I like you back Brandon.” He turned back to face me, his face turning red. He sat back down. “Then can I kiss you?” He immediately regretted asking. He looked at me, waiting for my answer. I hesitantly nodded. He brushed the hair away from my face. Moving his face closer, I could tell he was hesitant. “Brandon? You don’t seem like you want to do this, are you okay?” I asked, he moved back slightly. “I don’t even know if I want this, I'm sorry I just...” I just gave him a reassuring smile. “Don’t apologize, don’t feel pressured because I'm comfortable with it.” Yes, I did want to kiss him, but if he wasn’t comfortable/ready I wasn’tgonna force him. My phone rang, the contact said, “Autistic MF” I forgot I had saved that as his contact's name. “I have to answer this.” I told Brandon as I stood. “What do you want Devon?” “Family meeting, mom needs you here ASAP.” “Fuck, be there in 5 minutes.” I hung up. “I am so sorry, I have to go, I'll call you.” I told him as I started walking away. What could have possibly happened. I got to the yard; I saw my stuff outside. I knew whatever happened, wasn’t good. I opened the door, Devon stood in front of the couch, staring apologetically at me. “You want to tell me the truth? Or am I gonnahave to force it out of you, ‘(f slur in another language)’?” I felt the color drain from my body and fear filled my eyes. “What truth mom?” I asked, trying to keep myself calm. “Your brother told me you were on a date with a man, is this true, or is your brother a liar?” Devon stared apologetically. “Jay, I'm so sorry-” “Don’t apologize to him, no gay deserves forgiveness.” I looked down. “What Devon told you is true.” I said, so close to crying. I felt a slap across my face. “Get out of my house.” She yelled, her words cold and icy. I started laughing. This angered her. “What's so funny.” I smiled, “In less than 2 years, this won’t be ‘your’ house, it will be under my name. So have your fun until I'm 18. I'll be leaving.” I walked towards the door. “I never meant for this to happen.” Devon mouthed; I gave him a halfhearted smile. Once I got out the door I stood there. How was I so confident, I grabbed my stuff off the lawn. Once I had everything somewhat sorted, I pulled out my phone. I hit call on the contact, “Partner in crime”. “What's the emergency?” Asher asked as he answered the call. “I got kicked out, let your mom know I’ll be staying there for a while.” I replied, he sighed. “Want me or Lily to pick you up?” “I can walk, see you soon.” I hung up and began walking.
