The man in the suit intervened, introducing us. "This is John." he said, indicating the man behind me. Slowly, I turned to face him. John was a serious man, in military clothing that looked like he had seen many battles. His short brown hair was cut in a military style, and one of his eyes was covered with a bandage, suggesting he had impaired vision.
"John will take you to his room, so you can rest tonight." the man in the suit announced, his voice sounding authoritative and final. It was as if there was no room for questions or objections.
My mind was flooding with thoughts. ''WHY THE FUCK DO I HAVE TO STAY HERE ALL NIGHT!!! HUH? TELL ME, WHERE ARE THE PRANK CAMERAS?’’ I wanted to shout, curse, but the words died in my throat.
Before I could express my outrage, the man in the suit said goodbye and began to leave, taking everyone else with him except John and me. I stood there, feeling like I was trapped in some kind of dictatorial torture with a fascist military man.
With a discreet nod of his head, John indicated that I should follow him. As we moved through the shadowy hallway, the dim light from the few lamps created irregular patterns on the raw concrete walls. Each step echoed, filling the oppressive silence that hung over us.
The environment seemed like a maze of shadows, with closed doors lining both sides of the corridor. I felt like I was being dragged into the unknown, my heart pounding in my chest as I struggled to maintain my composure.
John walked ahead, his imposing figure standing out in the darkness. He looked over his shoulder every now and then, making sure I followed him. Meanwhile, I watched him closely, analyzing every aspect of him.
He was tall and muscular, his every step was firm and determined. The thought of running away crossed my mind, but when I looked away from his giant calves and looked down, I noticed my own feet. One of them was dressed in a fuzzy bunny slipper, while the other was barefoot. A line of thought burst into my mind: "Yep, There is no way I am outrunning him."
My mind wandered for a moment, but soon my gaze was drawn back to John. And my eyes traveled down from his chest to his waist, where I noticed a gun stuck in his holster. Another line of thought popped into my mind: "Seems that he wouldn’t need to run after me, anyway."
As I watched John discreetly, I noticed he glanced over his shoulder, as if noticing my attention on him. His eyes met mine for a brief moment, and I felt a shiver run down my spine.
Before I could look away, John stopped and turned to me, his serious eyes probing mine. "Is there a problem, Violet?" His voice was deep and intense.
I swallowed hard, surprised by the direct confrontation. "Oh no, nothing, I just..." my words faltered as I tried to come up with a plausible excuse.
But before I could continue, John raised an eyebrow, as if he knew there was more to be said. I stared at him for a moment, feeling trapped under his penetrating gaze.
Finally, I mustered enough courage to respond. "I was just watching... your... equipment." I stammered, pointing vaguely at the holster on his waist. "It's impressive."
John seemed to consider my words for a moment before nodding, seeming satisfied with my answer. "Just ensuring our safety," he muttered, before returning to lead the way down the shadowy hallway.
As we resumed our walk, my thoughts revolved around the weird situation I found myself in. "What the hell is this security?" I thought, frustrated. "Why the hell do you talk about safety carrying a gun through a place that feels more like captivity than anything else, where there's not a living soul around?"
A few seconds passed while I pondered the total absence of human presence or any kind of noise. It was as if we were in a separate world, isolated from the rest of humanity.
Suddenly, a thunderous noise echoed through the empty corridor, interrupting the sepulchral silence. I felt my heart leap from my chest to my mouth as I gave a small jump of fright, involuntarily letting out a high-pitched scream of fear. The sound reverberated off the walls, filling the air with palpable tension.
