'Where am I?' I think to myself.
A void... that's all I can see. There's nothing anywhere I can look. There's nothing I can hear.
Suddenly, a white light emerges from the void.
I spend time observing the light. Just her in the middle of nowhere. I can't remember the last time she ate and drank. But in my current state, it's not like I feel hungry or thirsty here.
The light begins to expand. I'm not able to discern how much time has passed, whether it's been seconds or years.
Suddenly I'm able to feel my body again, even if I don't have it, or I can't see it. Now I can also hear my own heartbeat. It scared me, which, above all, made me nervous; I was already used to the silence.
The light comes even closer and begins to envelop my body, the environment, which had once been dark, was now bright and a little reddish, along with that, the cold was also replaced by a cozy warmth.
Suddenly, a voice echoes through my ears. "Congratulations, it's a boy."
I blinked several times in an attempt to adapt to
the intense light around me, the void had completely dissipated revealing
shapes and colors. Cozy warmth began to envelop my entire body, replacing the
oppressive cold from before.
"Congratulations, it's a boy,"
Those words still echoed in my mind. I felt like I was being reborn, but where exactly was I? What was this reality around me? My senses began to return and voices and footsteps could be heard.
The strong, intense light dimmed, not to the point of disappearing, but now I was able to see, even if not perfectly, as if it was the first time I had opened my eyes in my life. I realize that I'm lying next to a huge woman, or so I thought, until I realized that I was actually the smaller one.
"He's just like you." A male voice pronounces this.
"What is that?" I tried to pronounce it, but nothing came out of my mouth.
"Nhe Nhe..." I start to hear a baby crying, but it's not far from me, it's as if I were crying myself.
"Look what you've done!" I hear a voice again, but unlike last time, it was a female voice.
I eventually realized that my mind was trapped in a baby's body. Could this be a vision? Or am I hallucinating?
After a while thinking about what had happened I finally understood.
"I am reborn!"
I didn't think this was possible until it actually happened.
Now... how do I know this isn't the first time? I clearly remember having already lived, but I don't remember anything about my past life. Well, I think it's better not to think about that for now; I can't do anything in my current state.
I noticed that the crying had stopped, I didn't understand why it had started, but I think that's normal for a baby.
"He stopped crying." Again I hear a female voice, this time I realize it's the same person I once mistook for a huge woman. Apparently, this is the woman who gave birth to me.
That was the only thing I heard before everything went dark again. I realize that my consciousness did not disappear even though my body was asleep. I realize that the language spoken by these people is strangely different from the one I knew, maybe it's an afterthought, since I couldn't understand them since the first time I heard it.
A few months passed, I continued leading a normal baby life. At approximately nine months I achieved my first achievement in this world, I pronounced my first word "Sui-ki". I didn't know what it meant, but I was happy and proud with this achievement. Not only was I happy, but so were my parents. I didn't understand exactly what they were saying, but they were pretty elated about it.
I spent the next three months dedicating myself to learning the spoken language and on my first birthday my parents had a small party, there weren't many people, just a few family members, there I met some of my relatives, but my memory was still not there. good enough to remember their names, but I can still somewhat remember what some of them look like.
My family lives in a small town in Nyxoria, a country with varied terrain and vast forests. This is the place with the largest number of adventurers in the country.
Nyxoria is one of the four countries of Solara, one of the nine continents of that planet. Solara is a military continent, governed by a council created by the kings and queens of each of the four countries.
I've been in this world for five years now, I discovered that here, unlike the world I came from, living beings can use magic, I already had advanced knowledge on the subject compared to children my age, perhaps it was caused by my curiosity regarding the subject, and also because of the ease of finding information on the subject in Solara. The country itself encourages the transmission of this information, perhaps because this is part of its economy.
Between the ages of five and ten, people can awaken a 'nucleus' that is located around the heart, which uses the veins to conduct mana throughout the body.
There are several ways to use mana, but the most common are: creating and manipulating elements and/or objects, or increasing physical attributes. In Solara, the vast majority of countries are made up of humans, with the exception of Arctis, a separate country between dark elves and humans.
Dark elves are one of the species of elves that prefer to live in places with cold temperatures, I think they adapted to this because they wanted to distance themselves from other elves.
The dark elves also participate in Solara's council, but are not directly involved in relations with other countries, only maintaining a peace agreement.
On Solara, the chances of 'awakening' a nucleus are one in ten people, considered high among most continents. Whether or not you will have a nucleus is defined the moment you are born, but you can only know whether or not you will have one when you awaken.
When I turned five, I received a 'staves' as a gift from my father (Orion Lancaster). "You're old enough to awaken a nucleus, so you can start training" That's what he said. Apparently this is a Lascarter family practice. My mother fought with him when he gave me that gift. "He's just a kid"
That being said, I actually started training swordsmanship with him. The Lancaster family has its own fencing style, aimed at immobilizing and incapacitating the opponent, this style is called: Crimson Blade.
For two years I saw all the techniques of this style of fencing and managed to replicate them, even if with lower precision and effectiveness than average users of this style.
In general, his techniques consist of targeted and precise strikes on specific points, so I also took some general anatomy classes during breaks, to further increase my precision.
At the age of seven, my core awakened, I soon realized that my mana had an 'ocean blue' color, which means that I have an affinity with the water element. My awakening occurred during one of the training sessions with my father, when it happened I noticed a purple aura around my father, when I woke up, I also had an extremely high fever, my body lost strength and fell.
Running towards me, my father picked me up and noticed the presence of mana in my veins and arteries, he enveloped my body with his mana and conjured: 'igni', normally, every human being has a layer of protection that does not it can be crossed by any magic that interferes with the user's mana, but, perhaps due to my fragility at the moment and the difference in strength between us, I felt my own mana mix with his, envelope my body and slowly cool down.
I already knew this enchantment, it does not manipulate the target's mana, only the user's and is useless offensively, as it only causes the target's temperature to stabilize. This is a common spell for 'spirit' manipulators.
I had a feeling that I had never felt in my life, my own mana was like a drop of water in the middle of the ocean of mana atmosphere, but, unlike me, my father had an absurd amount of mana.
We ended the training there.
When my mother arrived, she was infected by my father's excitement. Her eyes sparkled with pride and relief at knowing that I had awakened a core.
"He's growing up so fast," she said with a warm smile on her face, stroking my head affectionately.
"Yes, Elara," my father replied. "He is showing the potential of a Lancaster. I believe he is ready to go to a magic school from now on."
My mother nodded, but her look of concern didn't go unnoticed by me. Deep down, I knew they were happy for me.
This conversation sparked a curiosity in me. 'Learn magic,' that was a term I already knew, but I didn't expect him to be talking about enrolling me in a magic school. In this world, there is no need to go to school; Parents are the ones who teach their children everything they need to know, from the basics to the advanced. But, because magic is not something common for all families, there is a school to teach it.
I spent about a year training how to control mana with my father. I also found out about the variation of elements. Overall, there are eight main elements, each with their own rarities. Some of them have variations, which may or may not be learned by users of a given element. There is also the chance of awakening with more than one element, but these cases are extremely rare. About one in every million people awaken with two elements and are considered geniuses as soon as they awaken.
Because it wasn't very common, the schools were very far away, but for that reason, they provided everything a student could need.
Currently, I am eight years old and I am at the gate of my house, about to leave towards the Eldria Arcane Academy. Yes, a school in another country. There aren't many magic schools in Nyxoria, and Eldria is also where my grandparents on my father's side live. I also ended up discovering that the Lancaster family is a noble family. I was surprised by this news. Apparently, this is a family with a greater chance of having wizards in their lineage.
Suddenly, Orion approaches me and kneels down, firmly placing his hands on my shoulders. His eyes, normally full of determination, now showed a mixture of pride and longing.
"Hoshigaki, I know you are ready for this. I have followed your training closely and I know that you are much stronger than you appear. I know that when you return, you will already be a great wizard and a true Lancaster." (Just like the family surname, to be truly recognized, in addition to blood lineage, the family member also has to be a practitioner of the family's fighting technique: 'Crimson Blade'.)
"I will, father. I promise to do my best to honor our family."
Elara, with tears in her eyes, hugs me tenderly. She gently strokes my hair, trying to hold back the emotion.
"My dear, you are growing up so fast. I will miss you so much. Take care of yourself and don't forget that we will always be here for you. Write to us whenever you can, okay?"
"I'm going to miss you, Mom. I promise I'll write. And I'll remember everything you taught me."
Orion stands up and, with a loving smile, says: "Don't forget, son, we will be with you, no matter the distance."
I get up and, before getting into the carriage that was waiting outside, I give my parents one last hug.
"Goodbye, father. Goodbye, mother. I will return as a great wizard, I promise."
After that, I set off on a long journey together with two coachman and a Lancaster family guard towards my grandparents' house in Eldria.
