I felt a strong cold on my skin, I had trouble breathing and was unable to open my eyes. In the distance I heard a voice calling my name, I wanted to answer him, however, my mouth did not open at all.
I didn’t know how long it was before I could finally open my eyes. Without strength to get up, I took a moment to observe the place where I was, not recognizing that room, fear began to grow in me. With the few forces I managed to gather, I stood up and began to look for the exit.
I stumbled my way, knocking down various objects in my path, making so much noise that my fear increased at the thought of something bad happening to me if they found me. After a while I was lying on the floor, reclining against the wall, a few steps from the entrance to the room where I was trying to catch my breath.
Shortly after I hear a door open near me, I try to stand up and run out, but I only managed to fall in the same place. The footsteps were heard closer and closer, and I just stood in fetal position shaking with terror.
Hugging my legs and panicked I didn’t realize someone was next to me. It was only until a hand lay on my shoulder that I realized his presence. I immediately started screaming, throwing punches in the air, trying to drive away whoever was there. "Raul, calm, everything is fine" in the midst of my frenzy, I recognized the voice of the one who said those words; I lowered my hands and turned my gaze to the origin of that voice. So confirm it, it was Aaron who was there.
Carefully Aaron supported me to return to his room, on the way I realized the mess I had caused during my attack of fear. Once seated among the pillows, Aaron momentarily stepped out of his room, returning with a glass of water that he handed over before sitting down in a chair on the side of his bed. Take a few sips of water before opening my mouth "I’m sorry for the inconvenience" was all I had to say, before plunging us back into an awkward silence.
"Dr. White called you," the blond said after a while. My eyes opened wide and my throat closed, preventing me from making any sound. I imagine Aaron saw the terror in my face and continued, "I’m sorry to have answered without your permission, but seeing that he was a doctor, I thought it would be important. I told him about how I saw you walking around the park like a zombie and fell into the water." He mentions as he looks down at his hands, trying to think of his next words "He asked me..." began and stopped hesitantly, passing a hand through his curls and turning the gaze to the wall behind him. "Rather, I proposed..." He stopped again before he finished talking. It was then that he bit his lower lip and fixed his gaze on my face; his face was tinged with concern, which made me anxious and I cried "Spits out what you have to say".
"I proposed to him that I could stay with you for a while to make sure something like today doesn’t happen again," he said abruptly. Unable to process what he had said, I stood staring at him in silence. It took a moment before I could even say something like, "What exactly did you talk about that led you to propose such barbarity?" I dropped in a low and somewhat threatening tone.
Aaron was momentarily startled, looked down again, shook his hair and let out a frustrated sigh before answering. "Not much, as soon as I answered the call I said my name, stopping him from saying any delicate matter. I mentioned where I knew you from, the whole park thing and the fact that I brought you to my house since I didn’t know what else to do. After hearing me he told me about some things that could help keep you from getting sick from being in the cold water and hung up."
I looked at him severely, knowing that nothing he mentioned would lead to any suggestion that he would stay with me, especially after the last interaction he and I had. Noticing the mistrust that was growing in me, he continues to say "May, by the way, mention something about your mother, her funeral, and how it might have caused you such a shock that you unconsciously put yourself in danger; and how worried he was about not being able to keep an eye on you because of his job, and how good it would be for you to have someone by your side at this very difficult time. And so, I kind of offered to spend a week with you to keep him informed about your status."
I simply opened my mouth incredulous of his words. I returned the glass that he had given me, sat down on the edge of the bed, stretching my body a little, to make sure that I was in a condition to move. "Where are my clothes and cell phone?" was all I said as I stood up. "In the laundry room," said the blonde somewhat confused as he pointed to a small room not far away. I immediately went there, took my clothes and changed.
It wasn’t until he saw me looking for the exit that Aaron stood up. "You can’t leave without me," he said as he grabbed a backpack and filled it with a few pieces of clothing. "I can and will," I said as I opened the door and quickly exited his apartment.
