His eyes flickered open, his face and hands painted red. He wasn't sure if all of it was his anyway.
He raised his head just as he pushed himself off the hard ground. He looked straight to see some buildings crumbling in the roaring flames.
The fighter jets propellers filled the sky as the speakers thundered.
"Attention all civilians, this is the hunter federation..."
"We report that we have proceeded to subjugate the monsters from the gate. All civilians are to retreat to the refugee buildings..."
He coughed as the billows of smoke clogged his throat. "Huff... Huff... Huff..." He rose to his feet, holding up his phone with the camera function active. "Ahh, shit."
Dead bodies scattered around him, anyone with a sane sense ran from the area labeled as a red zone. But he could not run, he was a G-tuber.
With the existence of warp gates, popularly known as gates, existing all over the globe. A select few individuals have been tasked to subjugate them, the te given to them was HUNTERS.
Since the government kept most of the battles under confidential means a select few bold people have tasked themselves with recording the happenings of the battles, these people called G-TUBERS would usually record these battles to increase their online subscribers and popularity.
Since there had never been a warp gate collapse in years the G-tubers never had to worry about getting caught on the crossfire.
That is, until today...
Her wiped the blood dripping down his chin and continued to approach the distant roars. "Must keep on streaming, this will surely get me more subscribers."
He believed himself to be the last surviving G-tuber in the area, all the more reason to be the first one to cover the once in a lifetime monster collapse. He didn not care about the lives of those that died. It wasn't his job to care.
If he could just get enough subscribers he would earn enough to pay the bills, take care of his brother's school expenses, pay for his mother's therapy, have his first good meal in months.
As a G-tuber, he wasn't particularly lucky. He always got to the scene late and ended up doing a rerun of what had already happened. As a result he always had very little subscribers and barely enough pay to aid the family expenses.
He hated hunters, because his father was an hunter before he died. He hated people because they were never there when he needed them. He hated himself for alwsy being so damn weak.
"Haah." He sighed as he drew up next to a building close to the battle. He peeked around the corner with his phone recording everything, his eyes grew wide from shock. "Whoa, so that's a warp gate. Never seen it up close before."
The warp gate appeared as a mass of swirling dark matter with billions of stars dancing around in it. The beauty of it mesmerized him, but the beauty was a mere illusion as hideous monsters started to crawl out of it.
"Oh shit!" He tried to conceal himself as much as possible.
Not long after the hunters came in swarms dressed in their dazzling battle gears and armed weapons. It was a true spectacle to the eyes.
"Yes! This is pure GOLD!" He smiled as he continued to live stream the battle. He could already see his subscribers rising from a measly 157 to 700,000. The speed was insane.
"ROAR!"
The hunters were still busy defeating the monsters that came from the gates when one of them screamed. "Dammit! It's another gate!"
"What the hell is happening here?" Said another in a panicked tone. "That's the third one in a row."
In a normal sense gates had to be cleared by hunters unless there would be a gate collapse but for some reason...
The monsters kept coming out!
"Oh boy!" The young G-tuber said as the monsters started to tear through the hunters. "Sucks to be you guy."
Just then the sky cracked open and pink lightning rained down on the scene obliterating the monster horde and closing the gate.
"Damn! It's an S Rank hunter. That was a close call!" One of the hunters screamed.
The boy could not help but roll his eyes, "So this is what dad used to do that he got himself killed? Saving lives, huh? He's dead now and even the lives he saved don't give a damn. The ones who really cared he couldn't save, it just makes me hated him even more."
He was just nineteen years old and already burdened with a lot of responsibilities. His mother lost her mind with his demise causing her to be put in therapy sessions. His brother was still in school and had bills to pay. Though they were in the era of scientific advancement nothing changed their position in society.
He hated the hunter association for forgetting all the good his father had put into the nation and the lives of others.
"Oh? The fight is over." He said with a glum look on his face as he turned to leave but hesitated a bit as he caught sight of the S Rank hunter that had ended the long fight. "Isn't that--?"
A beautiful young woman with long pink hair reaching down to her waist and wearing a stunning white battlesuit.
"She's a hottie patootie." He could not help but say.
She turned her head back slightly to glance at where he hid behind the building. "Cripes!" He exclaimed as he hid himself behind the walls. "Shit. I forgot hunters had advanced hearing, I better sneak away quietly while I can."
With his phone in hand he turned to leave when all of a sudden there was a crackle of electricity behind him like live wire sparking. But there was red light reflecting from it.
"W-- what the hell is that?" He craned his head back and looked to see visible sparks of red light in the air.
Everything in his senses was telling him to run away from the glowing red light but instead he felt drawn to it.
