He reached out his hand to the sparking red lights out of curiosity and then stopped when his phone beeped.
His eyes scrolled down at the screen. "A message?"
Message:
Weeping Woods - Touch it.
DuskyDepp - What is that?
Mucucu - Whoa? Up until now we've been recieving trash on this channel but today I've been on the edge of my seat. Mooorrreeeeeeee
"Hmm?" He raised an eyebrow as he smiled slightly. "They love me? Bet they would love me loads more if I touched it."
More sparks came off the flashing red lights, there was a distant hum from the light as a rush of cold wind blew out of it. The lights blubs in the alleyway started to flash rapidly.
"What's that?" Screamed one of the hunters from a far away position. He could barely make out what they were saying. "There is residual electromagnetic radiation detected in the area. It's such a weak pulse bu--"
He shook his head roughly and reached out to touch the red light with the phone camera capturing his whole figure. "So I'll be putting my hands on this thing people, so what the heck!"
His heart rate sped up drastically and his throat dried up. His face broke into sweat. Not because he was afraid, he was infact level headed. What had him frazzled was the energy coming off the cracking light.
It was something he had never seen before.
A small bolt of red lightning sparked out and pricked his hand. "Ouch." He yelped as he watched his blood start to get absorbed into the light. "Why do I have a bad feeling about this?"
The light vanished for a moment only to reappear as visible cracks in the air as the very space itself was being ripped apart. It started to grow at an astonishing rate. It was in that moment he realized ...
"FUCK! ITS... ITS A RED GATE!" A gate opening right in front of him. His phone went off, so did all the power in the city. The gate grew to be several times the size of a man and exploded into billions of stars and lightning bolts that shot in his general direction.
"Waaaahh!!" He screamed as his body gets blown apart from the intake of the strange energy. It felt electrifying, all his cells at one were on fire.
His body was flung through the air and his head cloudy. The red warp gate vanished dissolved into thin air just as his back reached the ground. Hot smoke sizzled from his body, his like of sight became hazy.
His heart slowed down and he could barely hear a thing. The last thing he could see was strands of pink and that was how he died...!
--- THREE MONTHS LATER ---
The tv screen came on...
"It has been three months since the first ever gate collapse in a decade and citizens are still asking the question on everyone's mind... "Who is to blame?" The casualties are still visible in the city, some buildings have yet to be rebuilt and there is now shortage of hunters in the country."--
"The mayor has issued that interested applicants to become hunters has now been opened to fill up the spot in the Hunter's Bureau before need arises. The age limit had been set as nineteen upwards. With this Mayor Vice has promised that our city will ever revisit our turbulent times but whether this remains reality only the future can tell."--
"This is Allison Rooke, reporting in from The Eye Opener."
His eyes sprang open and the machines started to beep like crazy. "W-- where am I?" He was on a soft bed, there was a holosreen casting the news in front. His eyes glanced to his side was an IV bag. Strange tubes in and out of his body.
"I'm in an hospital?" His voice filled with worry and confusion. "Teo, mom. I need to. My arm, why can't I feely arm?"
A small silver spherical drone hovered over to him. "Hello, can you hear me young sir. This is doctor Derek speaking, I want to know if you can hear me." There was no response from the patient. "If you can hear me please answer my questions so I can confirm if you still retain your memories."
"Who are you?"
The said nothing.
The voice that came from the drone was that of a middle aged man which was seemingly energetic.
"What is your name...?"
This time the boy responded. "Ajax."
"Good." The drone chirped. "It seems your mental state is still intact though my sensore can pick up a few anomalies here and there."
"You should know that you were in an accident during the gate collapse three months ago and --"
"Three months?!" He protested. "I have to get back to my life... !? Why can't I feel my left arm?"
The drone flashed a red light. "You might not be ready for that part just yet but to save your life we had to take serious measures."
Ajax looked at his left arm which had a silver colour to it, and it looked metal. "You have got to be kidding me." He screamed.
"That's what I was trying to tell you earlier!" The drone beeped. "During the gate collapse you were impacted by a strong object that shattered your spine and fractured some of your bones and muscles. You should have died but instead you kept coming back so I took hold of you and equiped you with a bio mechanic upgrade spine."
Ajax reached to his back and felt his spine. "It feels cold and hard, did you turn me to a cyborg."
The drone beeped again. "Cyborg is a rather in unused term. What I merely did was do the best within my power to preserve your life. The chances of survival were slim but I guess miracles do exist. Don't worry the bio upgrades will still function as your normal body parts shortly. The veins and sensors have been put in place so you should live find."
Ajax still had one more thing bothering him. "Excuse me but what is this floating panel in front of me...?"
The warp gates are opening and it's the hunters turn to save the day. Unsuccessful VTuber Ajax has a bad history with hunters with his deceased father being one. He carries the burdens of the family with that regret in his heart. The sky ripped open and a warp gate cataclysm befell the city luckily he survived near death but not before waking up with a system, now Ajax must become the thing he hated the most only better.
But who does the Max Level Hunter fight for?
