“What could… he possibly do for me?” I moan in agony as warm tears drip down my cheeks. I don’t have much of a chance to get an answer, Evelyr walks in front of us.
“Konnor what do you think this will accomplish? If you aid him now then this mission was pointless. We need to get his true identity. Clearly Blythe stepped away because finding out this bastard is his mate is hard enough. He left the little shit to me. So hand him over.” Urges Evelyr. I cast half glance in his direction and I notice his arms are held out as if waiting for Konnor to transfer me in his arms.
I can smell and feel the Alpha scent pouring from him. Its as if he’s trying to influence me. Konnor seems torn between following what this Alpha is saying. He is also being impacted by the Alpha aura that is blasting at me. The stronger it gets the more I find myself clinging to Konnor.
“No.” It first come from me as whimper but the word steadily grows louder and louder. “No. NO. NO!” I’m crying out hoping someone, anyone will prevent me from being handed over to this specific Alpha Prince. I can’t look at Evelyr. My face presses into Konnor as if I could hide from the clear request the bastard has for Konnor.
“Rrrggggrrrrr!” A guttural deep growl rumbles from behind the direction Evelyr is standing. One second Evelyr’s Alpha aura is bleeding toward us. The next second there’s a thump a few feet away. A pure heavenly aroma of crisp night air with a the faintest touch of cool damp leafs invades my nostrils. I turn my head just in time to have Blythe rip me out of Konnor’s arms. Without hesitation I cling my arms around his neck. My face pressing into his neck. The scent washing over me. How can a person smell so wonderful?
Between the full body ache and the aroma of this dragon. This enemy. My body feels weak. I have no clue where he’s taking me. When he unceremoniously drops me on a bed that is full of his scent, I blink up at him in a daze.
Blythe’s glowing amethyst eyes bore into mine. For a moment its as if I can see into his soul. A deep connection brewing between us. A warmth echoes through my body soothing the blinding pain just from being in his tight protective grip. This warmth fills me, a warmth that I have never felt before.
“Why I feel the need to protect my brother’s murder is beyond me.” He grumbles frowning at me. “I must have done something horrible in my past life.” Though his words are full of ire, the way his thumb is brushing on my shoulder gently in a soothing says a whole other story. “Fates be damned.” He sighs as he turns leaving Evelyr and Konnor behind us. “Don’t follow me.” It’s seconds when I feel the familiar whoop of his wings expanding from his back. I take the cue as I press my face into his chest and cling to him.
“Where are we going?” I ask voice shaky and weak.
“There’s a cave nearby that we scouted hours ago. We intended to leave your dead body for that bastard king to find.” Explains Blythe full on irritation in his voice. “You are in heat. Evelyr isn’t thinking clearly. Going there is the best our best option until it subsides.”
‘Remember all Alpha’s want is whats between your legs, you better not forget that boy.’ The words spoken from my King blast through my mind like a warning crow.
Nausea rises from my stomach. The taste of bile in the back of my throat. I swallow in an attempt to keep it all down. The wind whips behind us. We dip towards the ground. Landing on the ground he gently places me on my feet. I shove away from him unable to hold back as I lean over and start dry heaving on the ground.
“Stay still.” He urges me a moment before I feel a sharp pain and a warm feeling of my blood dripping down my back. “There are shards of glass in your back..” He says softly as he plucks them out without warning while I pull myself together. With each clink on the floor the tension in my back eases. I can feel Blythe’s finger run over one of the wounds.
“The wounds appear to already be closing.” He mumbles as watches me closely. “This.. You have an ability..” He continues to trace the areas on my back that he had preciously removed the glass shards from. “Its a slow regeneration ability. Interesting.”
Mind reeling I try to come up with why he would even try to be nice to me at this point. Unnatural. We are enemies. A small voice in my head like an echo that I am unfamiliar with calls from somewhere deep inside me. The sharp feeling and thrum of power roar through me. I fall upon my hands. My bones aching.
“Tell me.. This isn’t your first heat.” He tugs me way from the mess I left on the ground. Pulling me upright and turning me around as he pulls me to his chest. “.. It is isn’t it?”
“What good would lying do at this point, Alpha?” I hiss the sarcasm dripping in my voice.
“Don’t say it like that. I’m not going to eat you.” Blythe runs his hand through my hair. “Lets get inside. I’ll help you.”
Though my nerves are telling me this would be extremely dangerous the echo in my soul feels as if it’s reaching to never let Blythe go.
