Train of Dreams

88 Part 1

88 Part 1

Aug 29, 2024

The inside of this railcar was just your normal passenger train car, rows of seats behind one another, and windows that were now overlooking an empty plain. The seats were upholstered and the floor was carpeted and there was a light jingle playing over the speaker. It sounded close to elevator music. This seemed like the most normal train car so far.

I sat down in one of the seats to rest my legs for a while. I feel as though I have been on the move endlessly. I needed a break. I stared out the window watching the rolling plains pass me by while I listened to the jingle. I nearly fell asleep.

The window. I can leave through the window! I reached for the…. There were no latches to open the window. These were not made to be opened. And here I thought I had found a way out.

Thinking my next big thought, I looked around the cabin to see if there was a blunt object I could use to break the window. There! Next to the door leading to the next railcar there was a small fire extinguisher.

I made my way to it and noticed that the number plate with the railcar’s “88” was hanging loose on its screws and had fallen over horizontally. Weird. I bet Cornrose could get that fixed.

I grabbed the extinguisher from the side of the car and made my way to the closest window. I held it with both hands and with full force I rammed it against the window. Bounce. It bounced right off of it, not even leaving a mark. I tried again. And again. And again. No difference.

I could pull out my sword and use that, but if my full-force blunt object couldn’t break the window, I don’t think a sharp object would make a difference. If only I had that wrench. Maybe that would’ve made a difference. I placed the extinguisher in my bag, just because I could and maybe I could use it later. I sat back down.

After resting some more, I decided it was time to move on. I headed to the next railcar.
