Jae-hoon leans against the school gate, his heart pounding as he waits for Min-seo. The weight of the truth he's about to reveal settles heavily on his shoulders.
Min-seo appears, her face a mask of determination. "Alright, let's hear it."
They walk in silence to a nearby park, finding a secluded bench. Jae-hoon takes a deep breath.
"I'm not who I said I was," he begins. "My family... we're not from Busan. We're from here, Seoul. And we're... wealthy. Very wealthy."
Min-seo's eyes widen, but she remains silent, letting him continue.
Jae-hoon explains his background – the Kim family's vast business empire, his father's position on the school board, the privilege he's grown up with. He tells her about his decision to enroll undercover, to see the school as it really is, away from the influence of his family name.
"I wanted to understand," he finishes. "To see if the system really is as corrupt as people say."
Min-seo sits in stunned silence for a long moment. When she finally speaks, her voice is tight with emotion. "Do you have any idea how many lives have been ruined by families like yours? How many students have been pushed out, dreams crushed, because they couldn't compete with bought grades and bribed admissions?"
Jae-hoon winces. "That's exactly why I'm here. I want to change things, Min-seo. But I needed to see it for myself first."
"And the fighting? The martial arts?" she presses.
"My parents insisted on self-defense training from a young age. Kidnapping concerns, you know?" He tries for a light tone, but Min-seo's glare shuts him down.
"This isn't a game, Jae-hoon," she says sharply. "People's lives are at stake."
"I know that now," he replies softly. "And I want to make it right. But I need your help."
Min-seo stands abruptly, pacing in front of the bench. "I can't believe this. All this time, I thought... I thought you were different."
Jae-hoon's heart sinks. "I am different. At least, I'm trying to be."
She turns to face him, conflict clear in her eyes. "I need time to process this. Don't... don't talk to me for a while, okay?"
As she walks away, Jae-hoon calls out, "Min-seo! I'm sorry I lied. But everything else – how I feel about you, about what's happening at the school – that's all real."
She pauses for a moment but doesn't turn back. Jae-hoon watches her go, the weight of his secrets finally lifted, but replaced by a new, heavier burden.
His phone buzzes – a message from his father. "Board meeting tomorrow. Urgent matters to discuss regarding Hanseong Elite. Be there."
Jae-hoon sighs. The game is changing faster than he anticipated.
