The people in the dining hall somehow appeared much happier than them, which somehow was also no surprise given how tasty the food was.
They left soon after, in a single small carriage back to Aiko’s home as the afternoon approached. It was only an hour ride there.
The entire time, Aiko did nothing but stare out of the window, holding his head in his hand, as he thought of nothing more than to take off these ridiculous clothing. Momo however, looked down at her lap, folding her hands down. She was sure her new husband hated her very much.
“…”
“..”
He turned to look at her for a moment, seeing how miserable she looked, yet he didn’t look any more joyful than she did. He scoffed, seeing her tremble, he looked surprised.
It was then that he realized he would no doubt have to share a bed with this woman, whether he wanted to or not. A week before he had bought nearly fifty books, having no more room in the library, he was forced to put them in the guest room. She couldn’t sleep in the sitting room, and he didn’t want to either, so sharing a bed was no doubt something he would have to entertain.
It also occurred to him that Momo had only one baggage of personal belongings. That was all. It was only a small bag as well, she likely hadn’t fit much in there.
Upon arriving, he opened the door, and extended his hand for her to help her down.
Though, he was considerate, he seemed to be rather annoyed he would be forced to share his home with this woman he hadn’t seen in nearly a decade.
He watched carefully as Momo grabbed her baggage. He may not like her, but he couldn’t just let a woman carry her own bag.
“No, I’ll get it,” he stated.
For a moment, he could almost see a full look of surprise on her face, like she was completely shocked that he had just stated that he would get her bag. It was the strangest thing that he witnessed. Wasn’t it normal to take your wife’s bag for them, even if you weren’t interested in marrying them in the first place? He recalled his vows, though he wanted a divorce so he could keep living his life, he knew that was never going to happen, so he might as well at least try to fulfill his vows. Yet, then again, a divorce was possible, just after two years.
He thought of the positives of this marriage. The greatest one being he did not have to marry a complete stranger, Momo was a former childhood friend of Ilo, Aiko’s younger sister. He couldn’t deny the fact that having a wife had it’s positives.
Upon grabbing his hand, he felt how rough her skin was. His own hand was very soft, and he was a man. Her hand could be compared to that of someone who worked long hours in a factory. This was perhaps, the strangest thing.
“Welcome to my humble home,” he stated, grabbing her bag before pulling out a bank note to give to the carriage driver. He watched carefully as Momo looked at his house, he couldn’t tell if she was in awe, or disappointed.
