Her stepfather, Lord Yuka was a very wealthy nobleman after all, perhaps she was disappointed at the smallness of his home. Though, Aiko liked it that way. He hated his father’s mansion with all the strange staff. It wasn’t because he disliked being wealthy, he had many nice things. Hair ornaments, expensive clothing, expensive furniture, many books, and a courtyard.
He had no maids though, something perhaps he should have thought of before getting married, he wondered if Momo would turn herself into one. It’s not like he couldn’t afford it, he just didn’t really care to do it. Some rooms in his home were quite dusty, especially the guest room, which was really more of a storage room. Even though, he had two storage rooms, they were both filled to the brim with more things he didn’t need. He wasn’t a hoarder, he was just too lazy to throw things away.
He led Momo into his home, unlocking the front door with his iron key. He opened it, waiting for his new wife to walk in.
He watched her even more carefully as she looked around at the entrance hall that connected with the large dining and entertaining room.
“Do whatever you want, I don’t care. I have work to attend to,” he stated placing her bag down, and walking off down the hall and into his study.
He couldn’t divorce her until his twenty-fifth birthday, so he would just have to wait until then. It’s not like being married to a Mali didn’t come with its benefits, but what surprised him, was no set bride price for Momo’s hand in marriage.
Lord Yuka Mali owned several of the country’s best cotton and silk factories. While the Nano’s merely ran a small maid-training company. No bride price for Momo could only mean that either Yuka had enough money as it is, or this was an emergency situation.
And worst of all, Aiko’s bachelor life would cease to exist at all. He could visit his father to beg him to grant him permission to divorce, but he had already tried before. Yes, the previous day in fact.
“Father, I do not want to get married!” Aiko shouted, standing in Kanaka’s office, begging for the release of a forced arranged marriage.
“You will marry Momo whether you want to or-”
“I don’t care! I refuse to marry!” Aiko screamed, once again, walking toward his fathers desk, hoping to scare him into acceptance.
But to his surprise, for the first time in his life, Lord Kanaka Nano shouted back. “The Mali’s have no heirs! Lady Nian’s womb is barren! When Lord Yuka eventually dies, their factories will have no inheritor! You will gain a wealth beyond imagining!”
“In exchange for what!? An arranged marriage!?”
“You can still whore around as much as you want! I don’t care, but you will marry Momo!”
It was a losing battle, so Aiko merely quit at his father’s final sentence in their shouting conversation. He would have to wait for two years to return to his grand bachelor lifestyle.
Truthfully, Aiko wasn’t really whoring around. Perhaps his father saw him in a certain light, but that wasn’t the case. He just wasn’t interested in marrying. He’s young after all! A life of evening parties, drinking, and reading suited his needs more than anything.
It wasn’t like he lacked experience with women, Lord Kanaka Nano’s only son had much… involvement with the opposite sex. Not as much as many other men his age however.
