Vol. 1 Small Town Hero. [PAGE 1]

Vol. 1 Small Town Hero. [PAGE 1]

Jul 31, 2024

Guns were blazing. Blood was splattering. Death was everywhere.

Arin ran like lightning and hid behind a stack of crates inside the warehouse. Her back pressed against the splintering wood as a voice rang inside her ear: “They are going west! They are going to get the high ground!”

“Damn. Collin is dead,” said the voice in her ear.  “They’ve got us outnumbered.”

Arin couldn’t keep hiding; she had to rescue her friends. Staying low, she darted out from behind the crates and b-lined for the exit.

Bullets rained down on her the moment she rose into enemy crosshairs. She leaped out of the warehouse and into the snowy streets outside.

“Jae is down! It’s just you and me, Arin! They are trying to–”

Then, silence.

It looked as though it was just Arin now.

She stood with her gun prepped to fire into the warehouse, knowing soon someone was going to come after her. A single speck of light reflected off a metal object—a weapon. With two cracks from her pistol, blood shot out from the shadow.

One down. Three to go.

Arin jetted off to the building where she knew her enemies home base waited. The back door was guarded, as suspected. But Arin’s keen stealth put a knife in their back, taking them down without alerting the others to her position.

Two down. Two to go.

The door was unlocked, leading to an empty room with one set of stairs. Bullets sparked at her feet before she even got close to ascending them. Her opponents knew she was coming.

She pulled the peg out of her last remaining grenade and launched it up the stairwell...

At the top of the stairs, she saw it: the red flag of victory. It waved in non-existent wind, beckoning for her to claim the win.

Glory surged through her, just before the sound of shattering glass rose in the air, caused by a whizzing bullet aimed at her head.

The words, “Head snipe,” from a deep, raspy voice rang through her ears.

The comic sound effects in the text make this feel much more dynamic than it would otherwise!

Arin Adams didn't mean to acquire her powers while microwaving that burrito, and yet she did. When she accidently stops a bad guy from nefarious deeds, the world's top superheroes take notice and invite her to join others in training to be a real superhero. The only problem is that Arin's power completely sucks.
With a new secret identity, and a crush on her superhero hating boss, Arin must navigate the world of professional superheroism while trying not to die in the process.
But is it even worth it?
I mean, seriously, no one likes superheroes anymore, anyway.
