“Who seems to be troubling my love?” he asked as he scanned the crowd waiting for someone to step up. His arm folded relaxed clearly not being bothered by the situation at hand. His attire clinged onto his muscles outlining them ever so carefully. Compared to his usual self at the estate it feels like I was next to a completely different person.
“Adonis, it seems that the mystery fiancee you brought along is the one who is causing the trouble,” the same man answered.
Adonis’ eyes lingered back onto me wondering if what he said was true. He was probably wondering if he had chosen the wrong girl to play the role of his fiancee. Perhaps he was even considering sending me away after this incident.
That is one thing I could not let happen.
“Please excuse me for speaking out of turn but I would like to clear this misunderstanding,” I requested, taking a step forward “Lady Zenith requested me to clean up the spill she had made due to her fragile eyesight she clearly didn’t see the handful of servants around to order…that was very insulting,” I explained as I eyed the servants around. “I do not know how to take the fact that she has hurt my fragile soul however I am aware that she may have been sceptical of my background,” I expressed, wiping my tears which I used to once trick my mother and teachers, and placing my hand on my chest.
“I was an orphan taken in by a family of merchants and travellers from all over…Which means I am not one hundred percent from this kingdom however I can assure you I was raised here.” I swiftly turned to a large painting of the royal family crest and chanted again. “We are the kingdom where the sun never sets. All hail the good emperor Vincent!”
The sun is the greatest star known however stars were made to burn and disappear over time just like this kingdom.
Everyone was silent trying to digest the story I had told them even if most of it was a lie. Me coming from merchants? I was the one being sold. Although my story highlights how it was clearly not my fault.
“S-she's lying!* Her acquaintance called out with Lady Zenith nodding eagerly along and the same man still carried his head high. “I definitely saw her push my lady!”
Adonis sighed quietly in annoyance. “My fian-”
“Then swear by the lord, swear by our father who lives in heaven, that you did nothing wrong,” I demanded, sure they had their pride but they surely couldn't lie to God.
The crowd started to murmur as Lady Zenith remained on the floor but how long could she keep on this little act? I was fooled once by my best friend and I hate people that could have so many twisted sides.
Lady Zenith's hands trembled even more as her acquaintance opened her mouth yet no words came out. The man helped Lady Zenith up.
“I-it seems that my acquaintance has yet to be educated properly…I shall be sure to teach her properly” Lady Zenith explained sheepishly redirecting the blame onto the other person while looking downwards.
“How shall she be educated?” Adonis asked, staring at her with a disgusted smirk.
“She will get an earful-”`
“No. I want her to be flogged 10 times and no food for a week,” I demanded as I continued to wear an innocent smile. Even though I wouldn’t see it first hand I want all that cross me even by the tiniest to suffer.
“T-that is an..” Lady Zenith struggled to find the right words as she looked even more cornered.
“That is a great idea. Which puts this gloomy scene to an end,” Sir Leone Dimitri commented while he stared in a bored manner with perhaps the Grand Duke of the house of Zenith, judging by the star pattern stitched onto his attire, with a visible frown on his aged face. Humans were delicate creatures at times yet they waste time on such trivial matters.
The crowd dispersed like butterflies and the music changed. There stood Adonis in front of me as he whispered something with a smirk…
