You Saved My Life

✦Chapter 7✦
Familiar

I reach my room and collapse onto the bed. I can't believe he heard me express my wish of death, and he was the one who had saved me all those years ago. I wonder why he told me his family was dangerous. I pull out a simple dress. A white blouse with puffed sleeves and a semi-pleated purple skirt. As I descend the stairs, a noise that seems to come from outside, captures my attention. I have yet to spot Lord Cassius in the crowd, so I suppose it will be alright if I investigate a little bit. I push the Inn's doors' open and step outside. I breath in the crisp, mountain air, just to have it blocked off by the sweaty scent of someone's palm overwhelm me, as a hand is wrapped over my mouth.

"We were hoping it would be you, Lady Ellanor. Where might be you sister?"

The male voice come from behind me. Presumably the one one who's hand i currently clamped over my lips. He almost sounds... familiar. There are two others in front of me, but they wear cloaks with hoods that conceal their faces. A sense of panic fills me. What are they going to do with me? What do they want?

"Load her up, Jesten."

What am I to do?! The man holding me starts dragging me towards a carriage. I can't scream, I can't do anything but wait to see what will happen. The sickening sound of a blade slicing skin fills the air, making me open up they eyes I hadn't even realized I'd closed. I look up to see Cassius stabbing the second man, the first already laying on the ground, blood pooling at his stomach. Soon, the tip of his sword is touching my captor's neck. I've never been happier to see someone.

"I would suggest letting Lady Ellanor go, unless of course, you'd prefer your blood all over her."

The hand over my mouth goes slack, so I yank myself away from his grip, to Cassius' side. My fear receeds when he places his left hand protectively on my shoulder. He moves his sword to the man's hood, and with a flick of his wrist, reveals... I gasp as I see his face.
"E-Emery?"

My childhood friend lowers his gaze. The sensation of betrayel floods me. Why would her do this? Cassius truns to me, his sword reting on Emer's chest.

"You know him?"

His voice was brutally cold. I nod, wincing when his grip on my shoulder grows tighter.

"His name is Emery?"

I shiver at the way his voice had darkened. I nod again.

"What were you planning on to do with my fiancée?"

Technically, Cassius and I weren't engaged since Duke Alister decided we were to court both brothers for two weeks, and then decide, but a warm feeling fills me when he calls me so. My stomach turns sour, and the warm feeling fades away when I see blood trickling from a small cut on Emery's neck.

"...People are willing to pay a lot of money for her pretty little head. Assasination out of jealousy."

Jealousy? How does that even make sense? I shudder, both from the cold and the mention of my assasination. Tears start budding in the corners of my eyes, for the second time today. To hear Emery, a once close friend, speak of me like that, pains me more then I am willing to admit.

"Evans, Callin, out here, Now."

At Cassius' words, two soldiers appear from the shadows.

"Take him into custody."

His voice is ice. I watch as Emery I hauled away, paralyzed. I wipe my eyes, but it's no use, my fear controling my emotions. Cassius sheaths his sword, and gently brushes his thumbs under my eyes, capturing my tears,

"Y-you saved my life."

He smiles softly. I never noticed how handsome he is.

"Most people settle for, 'thank you'."

"Thank you, Cassius."
I forgot to add Lord!

Thankfully, he says nothing, but places his hand on my back to lead me inside. He waves a maid over.

"Please bring our dinners up to room twenty."

The maid nods and scurries away as Cassius takes my hand and brings me to his room. There, he turns on me.

"What were you thinking?!!"

I blink at his sudden anger, he might as well have slapped me. I stand in shock, at his words, not once has he raised his voice until now.
