The not so kind cheerleader

Interlude

Interlude

Aug 04, 2024

How can Anastacia begin to explain what it feels to despise something about herself so much but no matter how hard she tries it feels impossible to leave it behind? She used to have no hard feelings against queer people, the only exception is that she believed they were choosing the devil and their way of life was wrong, but she thought it was a choice. And she is choosing to suppress, ignore and pray but it never seems to work.

She still believes these things she feels are wrong, nothing has changed about that. But now she has a newfound respect for those that managed to leave this behind. She needs to be of those people, she doesn't want to, but it's necessary. Sometimes God demands a sacrifice. And for some reason she can't understand the sacrifice, but all she needs to do is to stay away from a sweet talker, hot head and amazing kisser Iara.

It seems like she is doing a good job, after calling her father for 1 second and then hanging up, just so that she wasn't lying to the teacher, Anastacia spent the rest of the second period accepting that she is attracted to Iara and that she needs to find a way to immediately stop that, and in every single class after that she has not looked at the direction of the other girl even once.

It is the first time Anastacia is happy that the lunch break is happening, usually she would love to skip it so that she can study a little more, but being alone with her thoughts means that she will probably think about Iara. So when she meets her friends and they begin talking about something entertaining and stupid she almost jumps with joy

"...a tale about the struggles of playing all american football while dealing with bad teammates." Josh ends the plot of the novel he decided to write with a small, while the two girls try to understand what he was saying.

Carol is the first one to say. "well... you don't have to say it's all american football, you guys are pretty much the only ones that play it?"

"That's right baby! Let 's go Jets! Love the Jets!" Josh says with a smile while, holding both of his hands up, Anastacia smiles before saying.

"Love the Jets! Get it Jets' ' For just a second she is having fun, she couldn't care less about the Jets, but it's fun to talk about something silly like this, she even forgets Iara for a while.

On the other side of the school Iara wishes she could forget Anastacia, Lily has not given her a moment of peace after the little dance number they did, even while she was stuttering her way into talking about the King in Yellow she mentioned The Scream three times. At this moment they are sitting under the three just like they did in the first week. Iara finishes hearing the dramatic rendition of what happened in the class with an incredulous face.

"And then she was like, "Oh Iara, hold me with your strong hay arms!"" Lily puts one hand on her forehead while looking up, almost crying before holding Iara's hand and saying with a firm tone, "and you looked at her like "Don't you trouble your heart baby, trust in God; trust also on this horny ass bi!"

"I was not looking at her like that! And stop using the things Jesus said like that, it's weird, and I was worried, stop putting your fantasies in my life." Iara rubs her hand on her face trying to contain the disappointment she feels from the acting Lily just did.

"First of all I had to sit for 2 hours of bible study, so I have to use this knowledge somehow, and you have to agree that there were some sparks there, she wanted to make you squ—" Lily's words were terminated by a surprised Iara.

"Jesus! No she didn't! You literally called me delusional for a full day because I had a dream with her and now you think she wanted to..." Iara sees Lily once again start forming the words and the tattooed girl has to cut her off again by saying. "to kiss me? She was just focused on the dance, and so was I you're like, one of those people that see two athletes celebrating and think they're fucking."

Lily stops for a second, she does love watching sports because she can pretend there's a soap opera happening in the background, she is about to keep talking when she seems the golden boy of St Damian moving closer to the two of them, he seems relaxed but that doesn't stop Lily from changing she goes from outgoing and happy to worried and quiet. The younger girl sits beside Iara, almost hiding herself from the boy.

When he gets close Iara finally realizes why Lily stopped talking, she looks up with a smile meeting his eyes as he says, "hey, I do not appreciate the way you were talking to my girlfriend, especially with the way the world is against most women, it's pretty bad already to be bullying on minority, but to bully Anastacia? That's even worse because she doesn't have a hurtful bone in her body." Iara's face spells out all of the confusion she feels, this is not what she expected from the popular football player dating the cheerleader.

Lily seems to have realized Iara's confusion, she takes advantage of the proximity between the two to whisper in Iara's ear. "He's an ally, of women and people of color, because yknow... Jesus and all of the stuff."

"Oh so just women and people of color? Fuck us right?" Iara quickly whispers back before looking up at the guy talking to her, she can feel the power of god on him, or at least the power of sitting in the church for at least 20 hours a week.

Iara says, "look man, I understand that you want to defend her, but all I was doing was telling her to stop bullying people, I don't do that shit, I am not a child,"

To Iara's surprise Adam doesn't seem angry, his eyes show something Iara hates even more than when people are angry at her, he pities her. He squats with a sigh in front of the girls letting the two sit in an uncomfortable silence for a moment, his hands to his side and his shoulders back, he seems completely open to have a friendly conversation.

"Hey, I understand you guys probably hate the childs of God, but that is not a reason to lie and get violent, I know it must be hard to look through the fog but try to find in your hearts a sliver of the Holy Spirit. He loves you, come back, ok?" He nods with a small smile, trying to connect with the two girls.

Iara opens her mouth, but she doesn't find anything to say, she has never experienced this much misinformation about herself in so little time, Lily seems to be more accustomed to the situation as she says, "sure... we will, good day Adam."

Iara wants to fight, she is ready to complain and point out every mistake Anastacia did, but when she looks at Lily's worried face as her friend desperately tries to skip this unwanted conversation and the older girl just sighs as she says, "Fine, we will try to get better."

He nods with a small smile, when he gets up Iara awaits some other insult, but he simply mutters, "God bless you."

He leaves with the same serenity he had on the conversation, stopping to wave and talk to some of the people, almost like a celebrity, Iara watches with confusion and wonder, she images what must be like to have the absolute certainty that you're right about the biggest question all of humanity has, she turns to look at Lily.

"So, do you think the school has a chess club? I think I would really benefit from having something to do and chess seems really boring," she explains with a smile, Lily seems even more stressed at the reaction Iara just had, the younger girl stares in disbelief for a moment.

"Who gives a fuck about chess! The whole school thinks we are bullying Anastacia now! People are gonna hate us even more!" Lily almost screams, a surprised Iara tries to argue.

"But I was the one that talked to her, you weren't even there! And if we are being honest with ourselves theta already hated us"

Lily gets close to Iara showing all of the despair she feels from having to explain all of this. "We are a fucking packet deal! Like Jesus and the cross! And they hated us for being gay not for being assholes to Anastacia and Adam!"

"But we are assholes against them! And who gives a fuck what they think, should I just get into the biology club?"

Lily for a moment rethinks all of the moments and happy memories Iara and her shared, deciding not to throw all of it in the garbage she simply gets up quickly walking away. Leaving a confused and annoyed behind, the older girl really believes this is an overreaction, it's not like they were ever liked! Trying to use this moment to do something useful she gets up and begins looking for the two people that are going to help her set up the anniversary.

All of the levity Anastacia felt while talking with her friends vanished when Adam met them at the lunch table. He is funny, pretty and kind, and somehow Anastacia doesn't get a single feeling of happiness when he touches her. Even though she is not particularly enjoying it, the cheerleader decided to power through it and just get her body accustomed to it, after a lot of public displays of affection Anastacia almost jumps with joy as the bell rings and she needs to go back to class.

Adam and Anasatcia share almost the same schedule so she does not get the privacy she wanted, at least they are able to have an actual conversation without kissing when they are together in class, when they finally go their separate ways, Anastacia can't help but feel relieved she doesn't have to pretend anymore. Even if she will be working side by side with him as he plays and she cheers, it does feel nice to have a moment for herself.

"Did you know that there are gay penguins?" Anastacia is startled by Carol's words. Both of them are in the middle of changing to their uniforms before the beginning of the practice.

Anastacia doesn't hide her confusion, she slowly says while trying to analyze what the other girl meant, "good for them... I guess"

Carol happily nodded before walking away to talk to other people, the leader of the cheerleaders didn't really understand what the other girl was talking about, she would love to know what is going on in her head, but at the moment she has a lot of things to focus on so she ignores the weird action of her friend.
