“We are going to the fireworks, right?” Lily asked as Fiona started the car. “Of course! It starts in an hour, but we gotta get there first so we can have a good spot.” Asher said as the car began moving. I heard a ding from my phone. The message sat on my lockscreen. “Can we talk at the fireworks?” I stared at the message. I opened the message, knowing that today will be the official end of our relationship. I’ve been ignoring his texts. But I can’t anymore. “Sure, how about we meet at the bleachers” I replied, he sent a thumbs up. Asher was staring at my phone. We arrived and parked. I walked towards the bleachers, preparing. I stood against it, wait for Brandon. “You know why I want to talk to you, right?” Brandon asked as he walked towards me. “Cause you’re breaking up with me, right?” “I just don’t want to be with someone who doesn't like me back...” I looked down. “Brandon, I love you.” “You don’t. You’re only dating me because of some stupid fucking plan to get back at my sister!” His eyes welled up with tears. “I only agreed to the plan because I'd get you.” His eyes widened. “What?” “I would get two things out of it, revenge on Brooke, and you. I wanted you. I love you, Brandon!” “You don’t mean that.” “Yes, I do! I've had feelings for you since eighth grade!” I covered my mouth regretting what I had admitted. “Why didn’t you tell me?” “I was dating your sister when I finally realized that it wasn’t just me wanting to be your friend or wanting to hang out with you. And you weren’t out then, and I was too scared to admit I was into you. And when I was ready to admit it, and you were out, you got a boyfriend, so I tried to forget about it. I secretly hoped some shit would happen so I could have you, without hurting anyone. And when Brooke cheated on me, I seized the opportunity to have you.” I looked away trying to pretend I didn’t just admit all of that. “Well... this is a surprise, I didn’t know you liked me this much, I knew you liked me, just not where you would probably kill for me.” He replied. “Love is crazy sometimes, right?” He smiled. “Wanna go sit, watch the fireworks?” He asked, I just smiled as we walked up the bleachers, sitting at the top, waiting for the fireworks to fly. It was slowly getting dark. No words spoken; minutes passed feeling like hours. The first firework’s shot through the sky, gold sparks being visible. “So, are we broken up?” I asked, breaking the silence. “I- no... we aren’t, it was just a miscommunication.” He replied, he turned his head to face me. He put his head on my shoulder. I kissed the top of his head as we watched more fireworks shoot through the sky. “I love you...” He said softly. He lifted his head off my shoulder, looking in my eye. “I love you too.” I replied smiling. I heard a camera click. I looked over to see where it came from. I saw a guilty Asher trying to hide his phone. “Asher William Campel, you have 10 seconds to run.” I said loudly, making sure he could hear me. He immediately bolted. I laughed as I counted down quietly. “I’ll be back.” I said as I reached ten. I bolted down the bleachers, running towards a fenced off area, I knew that's where Asher would go. I snuck through the gap in the fence and saw Asher sitting on the bench. “Delete the photo Asher.” I said as he rolled his eyes. “Asher, I'm serious, delete it.” “It isn’t doing any harm; you guys were being cute.” I sighed. “I’ll let you keep it, if you promise not to send the photo to anyone unless you ask.” “I promise... just until you and Brandons wedding.” He replied smiling. I rolled my eyes. “Fine, I’m going back to my boyfriend, no more pictures.” I said as I walked away, listening to Asher laugh his ass off.
