" she's on a whole 'nother level," I say dragging myself up the stairs.
"Seriously, she just rolled with it, lied like a pro, and played it off smooth as silk!" he replies. "Man, she's a total oddball."
"Oddball? I'd say she's a freaking legend." I chime in.
"Hell yeah, and the math teacher had it coming," he chuckles.
I admit "That move and catch was smooth as heck... so slick." I lick my finger.
"Haha, no doubt," my bro agrees. "If she'd just stay quiet though"
"Dang! Why's this thing locked?" I grunt, trying to push open the door to the rooftop.
"We should've seen it coming! That vice principal!" he grumbles. "Now what?"
Heavily exhaling, I plop down the stairs.
Running a finger on his phone Bro speaks "Two weeks from today, sports events. Ah, our fanbase is about to blow up," Leon chuckles, and I shoot him a look.
"Oh, come on!" I groan, not even kidding.
The next day rolled quickly and hit us with a lunch break sooner than I had been expecting. We bounce from the cafeteria 'cause it's always packed!
And plop down on the ground where there used to be a bike stand, but no one uses it now.
"Move your respected butts!" someone howls very pained by our presence there.
We slowly turn to see who dared speak about our rears in that tone.
Frowning she stood there hands on her hips. Oh, not her again!
Leon begins to snarl but she cuts him "It’s my spot and you're getting in my way!"
“First come, first served," he spits “and I am considering ratting you out to the teachers”
“Yeah! Why are you sneaking into our school?” I add
"Move. I'm saying it for the last time." shamelessly she continues claiming the land.
“You are not even enrolled here” I mention looking at her clothes.
"What are you gonna do if I don't move, cry?" Leon taunts.
I can almost see her fuming.
In one swift move, she drops into Leon's lap. Panicked, bro yells, "What the hell?" and shoves her away, quickly scrambling he gets up from the spot "Jeez, what the hell," he whimpers creeped out. Sighing, she claims her spot and takes a long sigh as if she's back from a long work shift.
"They say no violence in school so that was the only way " she replies.
“What’s your name by the way?” I ask
“Why, are you writing a book?”
“Ah-kay” regretting I take a step back.
"Are you even enrolled here?" Bro asks still spooked.
she rubs her hands on a handkerchief. "Jeez, I got mud all over them because of you, you nincompoop!" she says to Leon.
"Nin-what?" he snaps and I pull him back.
" two half-wits," she comments.
"Do you two know what's on the menu today?" she asks, now looking at us in the eye.
"Fried chicken," we both reply in sync, staring at her.
"Would they be out of it right now?"
"Yes," I reply, "although they did say to check again in—"
Leon pokes me in the ribs and whispers, "We're not supposed to tell her. It was a secret."
I awkwardly laughed, bro was still audible.
"Check again. When?" she asks, manifesting a cig out of her sleeve and giving me the stink eye.
"In like thirty minutes, they said," bro grumbles. “No smoking on school grounds by the way”.
"Time check, people!" I scream feeling it in my gut.
They just stare at me like I've asked 'em to solve quantum physics. "How can you both be this useless?"
“Then you should have brought your phone” bro snaps.
"Y'all suck," she chimes
“I’ll take it as a compliment” the dude replies “And what are you doing here? If I may ask”
“Not stalking you for all you should care” she spits.
Grabbing Bro’s arm I urge him to leave.
"Oh, you kids can share—" the lady in the cafeteria starts, but before she can finish, all three of us repeat, "Share?"
"We got one plate left," she adds, looking beat. Before she can change her mind, I make a snap decision, grab the plate, and bolt.
Why share? They've eaten before, but it's been eons for me!
By the time I'm out of the joint, Leon's already paid and is gearing up to sprint, and she's vanished into thin air. I grab a scorching piece and bolt.
