How They Meet
The sound of bells ringing woke up a boy with a marked forehead. His brown eyes open hearing the sound of the older woman ringing the bell to wake up everyone in the sleeping quarters. He sighs getting up, getting dressed in more formal clothes, putting a robe over top of it. Finishing the outfit off with a obnoxious big necklace that is beaded with a large symbol on it. Walking into the large communal bathroom he goes to splash water on his face and rinse out his mouth. looking in the mirror touching his shaved head thinking how he can’t wait to go to his Auntie Jaz place this weekend. Definitely planning on telling her to put in a new design that would definitely piss off his parents.
He then hears his father call into the bathroom telling him to hurry so he can get into his chair to start making predictions. One of the other boys who is done getting ready says “Booker why are you up so late?” The boy gets no reply as “Booker” walks out and down the hall. Booker makes it into the hall moving to sit beside his student Jared. “Booker, you know we had to be early today,” Jared said. Booker rolled his eyes looking at his “student” who tried to act like he was the teacher just because he was four years older. “Seer Jared, weren't you told to address me formally when the congregation is entering? Also you all had to be early. I did not since missing any sleep would affect my accuracy.” Jared glared at Booker, finding his attitude annoying. Booker simply ignored him and moved to his spot in front of the congregation with a wooden symbol and candle. The hall becomes silent as Booker’s father stands in front of everyone starting the speech as Booker is handed a bowl of liquid. He started his regular task and motioned each of the trainees to him one by one burning their wooden symbols and dropping them in the liquid, pulling them out and handing them back, finishing with his own. He has them all close their eyes as he uses the candle to set the liquid on fire dropping a bit on the symbol in their hands setting them ablaze. All of the trainees breathe in the smoke that is let off while Booker puts his in the rest of the liquid. Picking up the bowl breathing in. Booker simply lets his body relax as he moves past his memories and thoughts. He started looking into the others in the room seeing if he could find anything new for today. He simply points at a little girl as one he notices different. The parent quickly pushed her to the front as he opened his eyes looking down at her his eyes softening. He leans down and whispers to her “Punishment for those who hurt you will be dealt in three days time. Just smile like normal and keep an altar flower with you for these three days everywhere you go.” He motions his mother to hand him a flower from the large altar and hands it to the small girl taking her beaded necklace off. Turning to throw it in his burning bowl. The little child smiles brightly as she says thanks to him leaving the altar. The process continues as his father continues speaking, more liquids being added to the other Seers hands and to Booker’s bowl. Eventually Booker stands and leaves after a while signifying he has no more predictions. The trainees eventually start to follow him as it gets harder for them to sit and find anything. Some sat and continued even though they no longer could find a clear prediction but wanting to show their worth. Eventually the service end and all were allowed to go clean up and rest. Booker happily ran to pack since his Auntie is coming to pick him up soon. Happy to get out of town for the weekend ignoring his trainees' calls for him to come talk with them.
