His pride refused to allow him to treat her with any kind of dignity. He could not stand this life, and hoped to wake up in the morning to reveal it was all a dream.
When he had finished with his bath, he changed into thin night clothing and made his way back inside, towel in hand. He dropped it on the ground in courage. Why he had not gotten the guest room ready, he had no thought. But now he was determined that he would not share his bed.
He opened the door to the guest room to see it filled to the brim with books. So many books upon books of books. It was absolutely astonishing how one man could own so many books.
“Alright, I shall complete this until the day of my death,” Aiko stated in dramatic fashion.
What followed was Aiko moving nearly fifty books into the sitting room, and brushing off his hands along his clothing each time. He would surely need a bath after this.
Momo was too distracted to tell however, she sat outside the front door with her elbows resting on her knees, listening to the cicadas. Her thoughts of her life now consumed her; Married to a man who seemingly resented her for being forced to marry. Time today, did however, move incredibly quickly despite it’s sudden change. She hadn’t even known about the marriage until this very morning. But that is, however, a story for another time.
Momo observed as a group of ants walked along a few inches from her, gathering crumbs of food back to their hive.
It was a few minutes before Momo would begin to hear commotion coming from inside of the house. At first she wondered if it was a robbery perhaps, but that thought quickly left her as she began to hear Aiko cursing from the hallway.
She stood up quickly and walked through the door and down the hall, seeing Aiko shoving things in the sitting room of the home, a room she had just cleaned earlier that day. He did not notice her as she peaked from around the corner.
