While walking, he tried to sort out his thoughts. Calming his raging heart and trying to get a good grip to stabilize his mind.
[The World Invasion Online] has been around for as long as he can remember. It rose in the gaming league and became one of the most prominent games because of its uniqueness and challenging trials.
But thinking about the apocalypse… and the new update the creators introduced for this game… Lance could not help but feel his hair stand up. Surely he won't be trapped in the game for too long to experience that update, right?
Lance patted his leg and motivated himself to move forward. There must be at least someone out there who is solving this issue. As long as he persisted, he will be saved.
He just had to stay calm and avoid the alien fortress. As well as the other creatures residing in this area.
In the beginning, [The World Invasion Online] is a modern world where humans reside. However, one day, the aliens invaded and killed millions of people. Completely dominating the world, forcing the people to be driven out of their homes, and was hunted down.
The survivors gather in one place and strive to survive. Fortunately, these survivors, after many years of being suppressed, were able to gain skills and abilities and survived through the ordeal.
They began to fight back and hunt down the aliens. Slowly destroying their base and gaining materials from them for research purposes. By doing this, the humans were able to come up with various materials to annihilate the aliens.
That's where the nullifier comes in. If the nullifier was geared with monster alien cores, its purifying power would rise significantly and it could destroy the monster alien base's nucleus with one strike.
Players, like Lance, are like warriors that are treated as heroes by the NPCs in the game. NPCs have these training fields where they train players with their simulation games before they are sent out to the outside world.
Lance missed out on the training fields. Because he was immediately shoved into the outside world when he joined the Golden Raven guild.
As Lance pondered these things, he began to think of his options. To notify the outside world of this bug, he must get in touch with the NPCs.
Should he drop by to the NPCs' stronghold fortress to ask for help?
Lance pursed his lips and carefully climbed up to the cave. A light drizzle of rain has already occurred. He hastily went inside and took shelter. The surface rocks inside the cave were dry and cold, making him feel uncomfortable when it touched his skin. But having a roof over his head to protect himself from the rain is much better than wandering the forest aimlessly.
Lance breathed in the cool night air and sigh in relief after he verified the air is much purer than in the ground below. A few kilometers away from him, he saw a single ray of light rotating on the forest floor before it got swallowed up by darkness. It was as if it wasn't there at all.
There's a high chance that light comes from one of the towers in the human fortress. Tomorrow, he should seek them out. If the bug is not fixed by tomorrow, the best thing to do is to investigate.
If no NPC can help him, Lance will strive to get out of here and fix this bug himself. Lance sighed, and after curling up in a position he was comfortable in, he soon fell asleep.
The next day, Lance woke up shivering slightly from the cold. He's currently suffering from terrible hunger. The sky above is as desolate as it has always been, with heavy thunder clouds occasionally raining down lightning.
Lance waited for an hour inside the cave. But even then, the clouds did not pour down a single drop of rain. Patting his ragged clothes clean from dirt, he immediately made his way down the cave.
He will seek out those NPCs. And he will make sure they answer to his anger.
At the human fortress, a man with a military suit and a badge on his chest stop a young woman from leaving.
"Where are you going?" His cold voice rang throughout the corridor. In his right hand is a gleam of a sharp spear pointed at the woman's neck.
The woman was not idle either as she held a rifle and pointed it at the man's forehead with one hand.
"Move out of my way." She threatened.
"Are you planning to go to the C-grade alien's base?" Behind the man, soldiers wearing military uniforms were taking their positions and stood behind the man. Their weapons are ignited, and they are on standby for orders.
Seeing the military personnel gathered to stop her, the woman scoffed. "All this farce just to stop me, Klein? Or should I call you Marshal of the 65th fortress on the first floor and Captain of the Golden Raven Guild?"
The man sighed. "Alice… all these efforts, are they really necessary? Lance is already dead. Even if you go to the C-grade alien's base where he died, you will not find a single trace of him. So just stop. Among all the trainees on the first floor, you are one of the top ten promising talents I trained." The spear on Marshal Klein's hand pressed deeper into Alice's neck. A thin line of crimson blood appeared on her snow white skin.
"Don't disappoint me with such actions. Since this only happens once, I will turn a blind eye. But, if you dare to disobey me again, I will have the Abyss Fortress take disciplinary actions for you."
Facing the Marshal's threat, Alice did not back down. But everyone in the corridor felt their back turn cold at the Marshal's words. They knew what kind of hell Abyss Fortress would do to anyone who dared to disobey an order from a higher-up.
Marshal Klein slapped the rifle away from his face and slammed the spear into Alice's temple. She took the hit directly and collapsed on her knees.
"Tie her up and bring her to the cells in the 5th level basement."
The two soldiers who came forward to tie Alice's hands with sealing rope stiffened.
Fifth level basement…
In the 65th fortress, the basement is where the cells are located for rule breakers. The first level being the lightest punishment, while the fifth level has the heaviest. Those who were trapped in the fifth level never made it out with their limbs intact.
Alice is strong and talented among the trainees recruited by the Marshal. Among the three hundred trainees from the southern parts, he only took ten under his wing. And these ten were spread among the group of 'Suit' he raised as human meat to conquer alien bases.
'Suit' is generally what they call to the humans sent to them from the Research Facility Fortress. They have enhanced physical strength and granted advanced abilities necessary to deal with monster aliens and other mutated monsters.
Their bodies have high tolerance and can withstand the corruption in the air. Even so, their bodies are not totally immune to attacks and corruption. The duration of 'Suit' only lasts for one to two years. And they have to be disposed of and replaced.
Alice was the trainee Marshal Klein assigned to oversee the performance of the 'Suit' members of the Golden Raven Guild. He only played the National Championship game personally in order to train Alice. She was meant to take over the position of the Captain of the Golden Raven Guild and lead this group to conquer the C-grade monster alien base.
The more monster alien base a fortress clears, the higher their privileges on the first floor. Clearing monster alien bases is a competition on the first floor for Marshals who command a fortress. But for trainees, training inside a fortress is nothing but an opportunity to climb up to the second floor.
As long as they receive a good score of A+, they could get a recommendation from the Marshal to climb up.
The two soldiers raised Alice to her feet, and she kept her head down. The side of her face was wet with blood. Noticing this, Marshal Klein stepped forward and wiped the blood using his handkerchief.
"Alice, I see no reason why you would directly disobey me just because of a 'Suit'. Did something happen when I sent you to pretend to be Lance's girlfriend?"
The expression on Alice's face could not be seen because of her head hanging down. But deep inside, she was tense when she heard the Marshal's words.
"Doing this… could it be that you fell in love?"
The soldier's ears pricked at the question. Most of them barely stopped themselves from laughing out loud. They especially don't want to make fun of the Marshal and his favorite trainee.
