Chronicles Of Mirth

Almost

Almost

Aug 06, 2024

The servants, now your personal attendants for the trip, have been instructed to gather pre trip supplies from the kitchens before you leave. They come back a few minutes later with packs filled with Humania meat as that is the only food an Onnori can digest. "These Humania were hunted down a few night ago so the meat is still fresh, we made some different meal selections to choose from" Seshnum smiled as she spoke and you and the crown prince nod at her in confirmantion.

"Great job" You say this as you look back at her once your Hashi begin to walk.

As the five of you leave the palace behind, the landscape begins to change, morphing into a vast desert landscape dotted with towering sand dunes. The crown prince leads the way, his Hashi bounding over the dunes with grace and ease.
You follow closely behind, the servants behind you you move with just as much grace, marveling at the power and agility of your own Hashi. The ride is not without its challenges, as the sun begins to rise, its harsh rays beating down upon you mercilessly. You both don your sun cloaks to protect you from the rays that would fry you to a crisp otherwise.
Despite the harsh conditions, you press on, fueled by the determination to complete this rite of passage and forge a bond with the crown prince that will last a lifetime. As you journey deeper into the desert, the landscape changes once again, revealing towering mountains in the distance.

"My Crown Prince, doesn't Anok lie beyond those mountains?" Seshnum asked this as your group stops to gaze at the distance.

The three servants gaze up at the mountains in awe and the prince nods. 'Yes Anok lies beyond these mountains, we shall pass through the sacred lands soon' The five of you ride onward as the sun begind to slowly rise, your sun cloaks firmly in place to protect you.
The hours pass by as you continue your journey through the desert, your Hashi pacing themselves to endure the harsh conditions. As the sun begins to rise, casting a warm glow across the landscape, you spot a small oasis in the distance.
The crown prince signals for a halt, and you five dismount your Hashi, allowing them to rest and drink from the cool water. You sit down beside him, watching as he pulls out a small pouch from his belt and begins to fill a waterskin.

'Here,' he signs, handing you the filled waterskin. 'Drink up. We'll rest here for the day.' You nod gratefully, taking a long drink from the waterskin. As you sit back, you can't help but feel a sense of camaraderie with the crown prince and your fellow companions.

You quickly roll out of your bed and draw your sword, ready to face whatever danger has come upon you. The crown prince does the same, his eyes burning with determination. As you scan the area, you see that your Hashi have also risen to their feet, their fur standing on end. "What is it?"

The crown prince signs, ‘Enemies have found us. They've come for our Hashi and the sacred stones they carry within them.’ He signs this quickly and you can barely keep up with his fingers. ‘We must defend our companions and the Hashi at all costs.’  You nod, your heart racing with adrenaline.

As you and the crown prince prepare for battle, you notice that Seshnum, Talos, and Meshnet are huddled together under a tree, whispering frantically. Suddenly, an arrow flies out of nowhere, piercing through Meshnet's shoulder.

The crown prince and you exchange a look of understanding. You sheathe your sword and approach the group under the tree, the crown prince following close behind. ‘What's the situation?’ The crown prince signs at her with a glance around quickly.

"Bandits," Seshnum answers, her voice shaking.

"They've been found." You confirm, your voice equally shaken. The crown prince nods, his face grim.

‘We'll have to fight them off’ he signs, ‘But we must be careful not to harm the Hashi or the sacred stones they carry within them. Use your wits and your weapons wisely.’

"Our Hashi can fight with us!" You point this out and the prince nods as your Hashi gather together to protect you all, their fangs snapping as they snarl at the bandits getting closer and closer.

The bandits, a group of twenty or so, are armed with swords and spears. They surround your group, their eyes gleaming with greed as they spot the sacred stones on the Hashi. "What do we do?" Talos whispers, his voice trembling.

The Prince signs at him ‘We fight.’

You nod, steeling yourself for the battle ahead. The crown prince signs to his Hashi, and they too prepare for battle, their eyes fixed on the bandits. You draw your sword, feeling the weight of it in your hand. The air is thick with tension as the bandits close in.
Suddenly, one of the Hashi let out a deafening roar, its eyes glowing with an otherworldly light. The bandits freeze in their tracks, their eyes widening in fear. The crown prince signs to the Hashi, and they begin to move as one, encircling the bandits.
You watch in awe as the Hashi begin to dance, their movements graceful yet deadly. The bandits try to fight back, but their weapons are no match for the Hashi's supernatural abilities. The air fills with the sounds of clashing metal and snapping bones as the battle rages on.
In the midst of the chaos, you and the crown prince fight side by side, your swords flashing in the sunlight. You block a sword strike from one of the bandits, then disarm him with a quick flick of your wrist.
The crown prince fights with grace and precision, his movements fluid and effortless. You watch in admiration as he takes down another bandit, his sword flashing through the air like a blur. Suddenly, a bandit manages to get past your guard and attacks you from behind.

You cry out in pain as the bandit's sword pierces your armor, but you don't let go. Instead, you use your free hand to grab onto the bandit's wrist, twisting it sharply until he lets go of his sword. "Watch your back!" one of the servants, Meshnet calls out as your Hashi rushes over to bite into the bandit's head, tossing his body off to the side with a snarl.

You nod gratefully to Meshnet, your vision blurry from the pain. The battle rages on, the air thick with the smell of blood and sweat. As the last bandit falls, you and the crown prince survey the carnage around you.
The ground is littered with bodies, some still twitching, others motionless. The Hashi, their fur matted with blood, circle around you all, keeping a watchful eye on the surroundings. You wipe the sweat from your brow, feeling the adrenaline slowly leave your system.
The crown prince approaches you, his face etched with concern. 'Are you alright?' He signs, reaching out to touch your arm gently. You nod, wincing slightly as the movement causes more pain to shoot through your arm. "I'll be fine," you assure him, trying to sound more confident than you feel.

The prince nods, seeming satisfied with your answer. 'We should tend to the wounded and prepare the dead for food rations,' he signs, his gaze taking in the carnage around them. You nod in agreement, calling out to the servants who had managed to avoid injury during the battle.
They gather around, looking pale but resolute.

"We need to tend to the wounded first, Meshnet doesn't look too good" you say, pointing to Meshnet whose shoulder is still bleeding from the arrow wound. One of the servants, Seshnum, steps forward, unpacking a small kit filled with herbs and bandages.

"What about the dead?" Talos asks, his voice shaking.
