Chapter 11
Age of Solstice, 16:71
Tulasquss, Drazul's Plane
Drazul felt slightly groggy when she rose in the morning. The previous night, her grief struck her severely, more than it had ever in such a long time. She is just grateful that it only stings her a little now. She got dressed and walked down the hallway, knocking on Whisper's bedroom door before opening. Whisper was still asleep in bed, her body sprawled all over, half the blanket hanging off it and her. Drazul shook her head and kept walking down the hallway down the stairs, towards her private alchemy lab. She went towards the pantry, just behind her skull cauldron, pulling out weird substances and odd animal parts.
One by one, she added them into the cauldron until the steam that lifted from it sparkled. She carefully put what she made into a large bottle, sticking a cork in to keep it fresh and shut. She left it on the pedestal next to all the other vials filled with various substances she had placed before. She turned on her heel and exited the lab towards the kitchen where she found Whisper looking for something to eat. Drazul greeted her, feeling slightly embarrassed over Whisper seeing her shutdown the night prior. Whisper, however, had only concern for Drazul,
"How're ya feelin'? Feelin' Jake now, 'ight?" Drazul stared at her a few moments before answering,
"Yes, I am fine now. I've finished what we need for the Green Circle."
"Oh? And that is?" Whisper perked up after finding some bread and jam, preparing to make them something small. Drazul put the kettle on,
"Tis a gift. The Green Circle's Mother may know of me, but it'll go smoother with a gift."
Whisper finished putting jam on one piece of bread and handing it to Drazul. She then made hers and took a bite of her breakfast before signing,
"Why? We didn't need a gift for the White witches?"
Drazul prepared two teacups while waiting for the kettle to whistle,
"They are much more secretive than the White Ring. They do not blindly trust anyone they do not recognize, me being among them. If I suddenly appear claiming to meet their Mother, they may deny me and disappear. It just makes things tedious, so it's best to have something prepared to express our sincerity."
Whisper cocked her head, signing with her free hand,
"Disappear?"
Drazul nodded. "Remember what I told you before about the Earth Goddess that they cherish and worship? Well, in return for their loyalty, the Earth granted them special spells and abilities. They can shapeshift into nature's animals, some even choose to live as them or among them. More so to hide but some truly do love nature and choose to become one with it. The Green certainly are much more independent and resourceful than the White, allowing them to live openly but also hide away if need be."
Whisper's eyes were wide with wonder,
"Truly!? Any animal? Golly, that's rare magic! Magicks only royalty ever did saw!"
Drazul raised a brow,
"Royalty?"
Whisper finished her toast before replying,
"Back at home, royals were the only folks who could witness magic. Folks were always chinnin' about it, wishing they could see it and all, but they never did. Bet ya bottom-dollar that had I seen a magic act back home, I'd be 'alf-way into the ground."
The kettle whistled and Drazul took the kettle off and started preparing them both tea,
"Is that so? What were they? Mages, wizards, sorcerers?"
Whisper shrugged,
"Like I said, never did see magic before until I met ya. Even then, I have a hard time tryin' to understand the difference between yas."
As they chatted, they sipped their tea in the kitchen, carrying on a conversation about Whisper's world. While Whisper's world was progressing in science, magic still existed. In fact, it was dying. Drazul wondered if her world was entering a new age, one that was leaving magic behind since it was slowly becoming useless. Because of this, mages and wizards and all have become court jesters for entertainment to royals and nobles. Drazul was disgusted by the thought. She would never allow that to happen in her world.
Drazul took Whisper's hand and dove into the sphere, the wind grazing against their faces and hair as they descended into a beautiful forest. As they landed, the leaves swirled about them in various warm colors that represent the Autumn of Lycua. Dawn was rising, and the small rays of light of the wee morn fell upon the forest, revealing deeper portions within. Dapples of light shone through the trees, leaving the forest aglow in gold and white against the autumn grass. Drazul spent a moment enjoying the beauty before stepping deeper into the forest. They could hear the forest waking as they listened to the morning call of the birds and critters as they made their way through.
Whisper found the forest to be quite beautiful. In truth, she has never seen so much life nor knew how vibrant other seasons could be in a new place. Whisper didn't know much of other provinces, even in her world, but she thinks this one could be her favorite. She stretched her hand to tug on Drazul's cloak,
"Did ya find them already?"
Drazul shook her head,
"Not at all. Like I said, the search this time is going to be tricky. Unlike the White, who split their coven into various parts of Tulasquss, the Green move together as one. Much like a pack of wolves or a pride of lions. Although, the coven was originally founded in Lycua. They can travel as they please, but there is no harm in checking if they are here at home before we start searching the various forests of Tulasquss."
Whisper was deeply interested in the Green Circle. She found their magic amazing, especially since it appears their Goddess is real, assuming that's truly how they received their abilities. Whisper tugged Drazul's cloak again,
"Their Earth Goddess, ain't she real? How come ya never met 'er?"
Drazul paused before answering,
"I do not know. I have respected her, honored her, even worshiped her just for an audience, only to be met with silence."
Drazul went quiet after that. Whisper took Drazul's hand and squeezed it. She didn't mean to dampen her mood. Drazul took her hand in hers and they continued walking under the small rays of morning. As time went on, the sun was higher, illuminating the forest further. Above them was a sea of golden leaves and white light, a light breeze occasionally blowing past. The sounds of leaves rustling and birds singing filled the silence. Whisper felt that if she were one of the Green, she'd live here, too.Eventually, they found a small clearing leading to a large waterfall surrounded by a round lake. The trees grew in bigger clusters, and up and along the cliff of the waterfall, their branches stretched outward and downward due to gravity. Large boulders coated the foot of the waterfall and protruded from the walls of the cliff under it, making the crashing of water of the waterfall loud. Along the various boulders and edges of the lake were small leopard cats, lounging by and drinking from the lake.
As they approached, the leopard cats perked up, and all eyes were on them. As they took a few more steps closer to the lake, the cats all began to dart away into the shadows of the trees, whether by climbing or simply dashing away. Drazul watched them just as carefully as they watched her. As she walked closer, pausing just at the edge of the lake, she scared off the remaining cats. At least, all but one.
Beside the waterfall atop a large boulder was a single leopard cat. It was large and appeared aware compared to its ilk. Drazul reached into a pocket tear into her lab to pull out her gift. She stepped back and presented the large vial before her feet before raising her voice slightly above the waterfalls clashing of water,
"I am here to meet your Mother, child of Earth."
Drazul locked eyes with the leopard cat for a long while before a figure appeared from behind the waterfall. It was a majestic tiger, one usually found in Southern Lycua, that revealed itself. It sat behind the leopard cat, who paled in size in comparison. The tigers coat was beautiful and vibrant, and most definitely larger than a normal tiger belonging to Lycua. The tiger reared its head and roared, powerfully and loudly. It's roar shook the trees and nearly disrupted the waterfall. Whisper, startled, grasped for Drazul's waist.
This was it. Drazul gently removed Whisper's hands and picked up the large vial and spoke,
"The Dreamwalker has come to meet you, Mother of the Green."
The tiger's eyes twitched but did not change for a few moments until realization hit them. Its eyes widened, the sun's light glinting off their golden eyes. The tiger nudged the leopard cat in front of it before it stepped aside to allow the tiger to descend from its perch. It bounded its way towards Drazul, leaping to and fro until it stood before her. As the sun hit the tigers fur, it began to glow brightly. In moments, its glow shattered into shiny particles, revealing a woman bowing underneath it.
"I welcome you, Maiden of Dreams."
Drazul proffered the vial,
"I come bearing a gift. I bring Nature's Bounty."
The woman straightened her back, revealing a beautiful visage. Her eyes were sharp, and her hair was worn up into a sleek bun of ribbons adorned with beautiful accessories that consisted of golden branches and gems to appear as dew upon them. Her bangs were split down the middle, tucked behind her ears loosely, framing her pale face. She was wearing a white layered dress that had a gradient of jade, gold and orange starting from white going upward. A pattern of white flowers and leaves were embroidered into it, a single red tiger lounging along the edge of its dress atop large orange branches that stretched upward along the dress. Her red sash intertwined with a gold sash that hung off her waist, fluttering against the breeze alongside her dress. The Mother moved her arms gracefully, her long sleeves fluttering as she accepted the gift.
