"While I would love to sit around and find the names of everyone who attended the party, my parents want me to eat dinner with them. I have to head home, but I'll be back in an hour or two. I trust that you two will be fine alone until I get back." Alek taunted. I nodded, and he quickly left. He seemed eager to get away from Chase and me.
"You didn't believe him, did you? I think he still isn't over us." Chase asked. I was glad that Chase felt the same way I did. I knew Alek wasn't over us yet. He could fight with us all he wanted, but it wouldn't stop his feelings.
"I didn't believe him, but there is nothing we can do about it. Right now, we need to focus on this list." I responded. I pulled out a piece of paper and numbered it 1-101. Chase grabbed my laptop. "What are you doing? I didn't say you could touch that." I asked, reaching for my laptop. Chase moved it away from me.
"I just wanted to look through the texts with Unknown again and see if there is anything we missed that could give us a clue." He responded, continuing to click on things on my laptop. I let him be and found all the photos from the party. I started to write names as he continued to read.
"Oh shit! Jayden, Alek has had feelings for us since before the party." Chase gasped. He showed me a text on the laptop screen confirming what he just told me. I felt everything shatter inside me. How did I not know sooner? Would things have been different if I had known before the fight? "Should we confront him about this?"
"Absolutely not! You weren't even supposed to be looking through Alek's texts. Get off of my laptop. Besides, we have bigger things to worry about at the moment." I responded, gesturing to the paper with the names. I took my laptop back and shut it. We wrote down a few more names when curiosity got the better of me. "Do you like Alek? Romantically?" I asked.
"I thought you wanted us to focus on the names. Are we making this list, or are we discussing Alek?" Chase asked. He avoided my question by asking a question. "Also, you haven't said anything about Alek having feelings for us. I want to know your thoughts." He continued.
"We can do both. Alek can feel whatever he wants for us. That doesn't bother me. He's allowed to have feelings." I shrugged, writing down another name. Chase snatched my pen from me, forcing me to look at him. "What? Was my answer not good enough?" I asked.
"I want to know your feelings for him," Chase explained. He had avoided my questions, but I could never avoid his. I put my paper to the side and looked at Chase. He was staring at me, as if trying to read my emotions.
"Well, I am bisexual, but my feelings for Alek are complicated. He used to be one of my best friends. He and I don't exactly get along anymore, if you haven't noticed. I could love him, but I'm not sure if that is what he wants right now. What if we tried and it didn't work out? That's why I am waiting to discuss this with him until after the investigation." I answered. "Now tell me how you feel about it." I continued.
"I honestly don't know." He answered. "I don't know how I feel about it. I'm still sorting it out. It's confusing. Do you think Alek would like us to date him and each other?" Chase asked. I shrugged. "How do you feel about me?" Chase asked.
"The same way I feel about Alek," I answered. Chase stared at me, like he wanted to say something. "Say what you want to say." I continued. Chase leaned forward and kissed me. My eyes widened. It was short, but it still happened. "What the hell was that?" I yelled.
"I don't know! I shouldn't have done that. I'm even more confused than I was before. Let's just get back to the list. I know I took pictures on my phone," He replied, changing the subject again. He wrote down names, and I stared at photos on my phone. I had no idea what Chase was thinking or why he kissed me.
Alek came back an hour later, like he said he would. "Hey, what did I miss?" Alek asked. Chase blushed and looked away. I froze, unsure of whether to tell the truth or not. "Okay, something happened. Do not leave me out of this," Alek said, sitting next to me.
"Chase is trying to figure himself out, and he thought kissing me was the best way to do that," I responded. Chase stayed quiet. Alek looked confused. "We were talking about our feelings. I told him I was bisexual, he said he was confused, then he kissed me. He hasn't said much since then." I explained. Chase held up the middle finger. "We made progress on the list. Only 20 people to go." I continued, when neither of them spoke.
"You two kissed to figure out Chase's feelings? Chase's feelings toward what? I'm confused." Alek replied, looking between us.
"Maybe kissing me will help you not be confused, too." I joked. Alek blushed. "Chase is confused about his sexuality, his feelings toward me, his feelings toward you, and his feelings in general," I explained further. Alek slowly nodded.
"Can I help?" Alek asked. Chase shook his head, still choosing not to speak. "Okay. Well, let's finish up the list." Alek continued. Alek kept glancing at Chase, his lips, then me. I think a part of Alek wishes he had been kissed as well. After all, it was he who was in love with us. I started to feel bad for him.
"Okay, I'm going to do something to help both of you figure things out. I don't want either of you to say anything after unless it is about this list that we really need to finish. I'm only doing this so you two can sort out your feelings." I said. I took Alek's face in my hands and looked him in the eyes. He slightly nodded. I brought him closer until our lips brushed. I heard Chase gasp. I pulled back and then grabbed my pen. Chase and Alek were both staring at me. I started to write down the last few names. Nobody spoke until I was finished.
"Okay, we can cross off the names that can't be Unknown. That would be Peter and us three. Do we have any more clues?" I asked. Chase sat up.
"I learned he is a guy from the messages. You can cross out all the girls," Chase answered. "He also went to our school. I think there were people at the party from other schools," Chase continued. I crossed out names as he spoke. "Also, it is past ten, and tomorrow is a Saturday," He continued. Alek and I both glanced at him, wondering what that had to do with anything. "I don't want to walk home," Chase continued.
"You can stay here tonight, if that is what you are implying. Let me finish crossing off names, and we can go to bed. We can figure out our next steps after we are fully rested. I want to find Peter, but I can't do that with no sleep." I replied, crossing out the last few names. Alek was watching me. "You can stay too." I continued. He nodded.
I threw them both clothes to change into, and I climbed into bed, realizing how exhausted I was. My bed was big enough to fit the three of us, so Alek and Chase climbed in as well. Alek was lying in the middle. I wondered if that was intentional or not. I didn't think too hard on it, because I was asleep the next minute.
