“I can not believe the nerve of you two!” after we escaped the mob Yun started to lecture the other two “All I asked was that you two keep it low key, buy useful things, get a nice meal and what do you go and do?” Yun looked at each of his friends “I bought useful things, look!” Parker argued and showed Yun he bought a big backpack full of books, some ratios, and nothing else, “Parker… I don’t think you can eat books to you know survive” I told him but he made an indiganted face and adjusted his glasses “You just haven’t tried hard enough” he piped down when Yun gave him a dead stear “Anre anything you want to say for yourself?” “hey what can I say I'm not exactly a role model for anyone in fact I only know how to teach two things and none are suitable for kids” “You broke five noses, three arms, and one leg of people at the bar and for what?” they keep arguing for a while I sat next to Parker his nose was buried in one of the books he got, I rested my head on his shoulder “I hate when mom and dad fight, can´t you do something to make them stop?”

“they will tire themselves out we are better off not interfering” Anre laughed hard after Yun tried to hit him in the head “Glad to see you are back to your normal self Yunni” Yun stopped his attack and looked confiused at the big laughing man “what do you mean idiot!” he placed his hands on Yun´s shoulders and continued his explanation “since we scaped the Maw you have been on edge and all gloomy, I don’t like that… is like you will snap at any moment and believe it or not I don’t want that to happen, you are special to me, just like Parker and the jury is still out on the lass but she is cool, for now” I noticed the sky was turning dark and the stars came out into the sky, nightfall would soon be on us “we should prepper camp and a meal!”

Anre declared, Yun laughed for the first time in a while “Sure why not old man, leave the cooking to me” he looked into his bag for a pot and a cutting board “Lass can you gather some firewood with me?” I nodded and followed Anre into the woods “Hey come on Parker that tent is not arming itself chop-chop!” I managed to hear Yun trying to make Parker work on the rest of the camp, the sound of insects and some fireflies were the only other thing in the woods beside us I haven’t talked to Anre one-on-one so maybe this is a good opportunity to see how is he doing, after walking for a moment Anre stopped at a place with a big wood stomp, he sat on it and crossed his arms and legs “lass I didn’t bring you here for firewood I brought you here to explain your Gift more” I was surprised “but I thought we agreed that you all will teach me when we arrived at the vally?” I sat down in front of him, I understood the idea behind me not being able to read into their minds but if I have a power I want ot learn how to use it to help them “I know that´s what we said but I'm worried about Yun and I would really appreciate if you keep an eye on him, I'm not saying look deep into his brain but he is dealing with something very hard, and I think you can keep him in check”

I nodded although what he said before we came here was true, I was still worried about Yun too, “where do we start?” “That’s my girl!” he took a branch from the ground “Okay so first turn on your gift” I imagined the door again but this time I opened it I started to hear things as if I was at the place “dumb Yun… I did read a camping manual trice, but he didn’t have to be an ass about it…” “I hope Anre and Karolin return soon, if it gets too dark some beast could find them and Anre doesn’t have the best night vision”  “I can hear the guys!” Anre nodded “Okay Lass so for your first activity try to concentrate on yourself” he showed me how he could charge objects with energy but instead of making them fully charged he concentrated it just some parts of the branch

“Listen, anyone can unleash power but it takes concentration and focus, to be able to actually use it properly” The shining parts popped and the branch was cut in just the section he used his gift, I closed my eyes and tried to concentrate, to drown out the other´s voices and just focus on me, gradually it started to stop I stop hearing Yun or Parker at the camp I could hear only the things around me “now concentrate on me and try to read my mind,” he said, I focused on him and said out loud “you are thinking of the fight at the port town… it wasn’t your fault the people were part of a gang and… you fought them” he nodded “why didn’t you told Yun? He would have understood and he wouldn’t have-” he stopped me “what difference does it make? The bottom line is I fought them and got us out of town, whether it was for good or bad reasons that is something that won't change the outcome, sure Yun would have been more compressive but he is right I shouldn’t have fought anyone”  

My head was spinning for the use of my gift Anre noticed and helped me to my feet “Okay first lesson is over, try to keep the door open without losing your mind from all the voices, if it gets too intense close the door, think of your gift as a muscle that needs to be trained, okay Lass” he picked up some pieces of wood and brought them back with him, I nodded and started to walk back, I told him “you… are a good guy deep down, but why not tell Yun about it?” Anre acted all shocked and hurt “and let him get all high and mighty? Never!” I laughed at his reaction and walked beside him, I even picked some wood for myself, if you had asked me if he was a secret good guy I would have said no, but I guess is true what they say, you can't judge a miner by his cover.

After the fiasco at the port, we walked for a few days until we reached Pikod the next town over on our way to the Valley by Yun´s calculations we should arrive at Killalark in roughly a week I am not excited about seven days of walking and fighting beasts, “So has anyone been here before?” Parker asked Anre and I shook our heads but Yun didn’t “… I have visited here a few times before, is a calm town, its main attractions are a museum and a water well, it is also the last town we will be hitting before our week to Killalark so we should stock on food and water” we all pulled the money we had left Parker quickly counted by the look and sadly said “we don’t have enough for a week´s worth of food and water, and even if we do we don’t have a way to carry that wight, and I am not creating any marionets for that” Yun sighed “Yun buddy you have to face reality, we ether take a train or find a cart for our travel so take your pick” Yun crossed his arms and was ready to argue “wait, wait guys” I interjected “what if you guys find some Hunter´s work and if we find some good paying ones we can plan our next move from there, how does that sound?” Yun sighed again “sure that sounds like a plan…” and he passed us into town well he at least is welling to keep moving forward.

“wow this place is incredible!” there was a big plaza in the center of town where some of the stores and the museum Yun told us was on the tip of a cliff looking at the sea, however, the town looked gloomier than I had imagen, people looking to the ground, and the vibe was all down, our first stop was the central offce for hunters to see what jobs were available to us, the central was just a building with the insignia of the order of Hunters, we had to use a computer to look at the jobs Yun and Parker were looking into them as for me and Anre something else caught our eye “Intriguing don’t you think Karolin?” I nodded, we were looking at an announcement board where many missing people posters adorned it. 

“look most are older people, fifty, forty-eight, ninety, and all of them lived simple lives, I wonder if it has something to do with a beast” I took some of the flayers to read about them in my free time, as Yun and Parker walked to us to inform us of their findings, “not many jobs are abalable right now, the best one we got is a three-day job hunting Vermillions at an avandon house, it pays enough to get most things we need and if we factor in some other sources of income we can start talking about our metod of transportation” Parker informed us “Vermillions are easy enough for us to handel and Karolin can give it a try to hunting moonlight beasts is a win win situation for us” Yun added, the idea of killing even if it’s a beast is something im not too sure about, I mean if its bigger than me and is currently trying to kill me and it is a beast sure I think I can but I´m not sure if I can kill a person.

“Sure I mean Vermillions are just kind of like rats… oversized rats with knife-like fangs sure I think I can handle one or two” Parker nodded “How about five dozen?” I could feel the blood leave my face sure it was just rats with their glowing eyes and whip-like tails “Hey don’t push yourself too much Karolin, okay? Why don’t you-” “Mr. Yun jejejeje” I looked in the direction Yun looked did he just think of someone? It was a little girl´s voice sweet and small calling for him “Yo, yoo-hoo earth to Yun, you spaced out there buddy” Anre togged on his coat and he snapped out of it “Sorry I´m probably tired, where was I? oh right you can wait at the outside but I would like if you try to fight, maybe not directly but you can practice with your gift” “sure I can give it a try but am… why don’t we go to the Inn you seem to be a little bit pail Yun” “yeah I think is also a good idea to settle down first and take this day to rest, we promise to behave this time right Anre?”

“ye… yeah! Let's find some good drinks and a good bed for a little beauty nap Yunni!” Yun didn’t argue he just held his head and flowed us, the Inn was not too far from the main plaza as soon as we entered, a woman greeted us “Oh we have guests come in! My name is Saki, welcome to the Frozen Tear lovelies, what can I do for you this fine day?” she seems to be in a much better mood than the other people in town “good evening miss, we would like to get a room for four please” she nodded “let me guess you all are a party of hunters?” Anre nodded “We haven’t got Hunters in a while are you here to investigate the disappearances honeys?” she handed us the keys after we gave her the money for the room, Yun didn’t stick around too much he marched straight to the room “I believe I saw some of the posters at the Hunters office”

Parker said I pulled some out and showed them to him “its been very tragic, we look for the people that have gone missing but no matter how much we look they just seem to puff out of existence like in a scary movie” Anre put his arm on the counter to keep talking about the topic “do you knew any of the missing people Saki?” the woman smiled “yeah sweet-heart if there is something to be sure is that nobody have the latest gossips than an innkeeper”

Saki informed us that all of the missing people were last seen at night, all of them had lost someone and were greaving the loss but on the third day they vanished into the night, Parker and Anre stayed at the bar for a moment as I took a glass of water for Yun, I mean maybe it wasn’t my gift, after all, he did said he had come here before, maybe its all normal and nothing bad is going on, “no… It can be her…” I was about to knock on the door when I heard Yun talking to himself “… is not spaying if it out of concern” I told myself as I threw the water I got him and used the glass to hear him better, I looked around to make sure I was alone, I have only read about doing this in book or seen it in movies I wonder if it actually works, I pressed my ear to the bottom of the glass and I hear him better.

“Okey calm down, let's be reasonable” he started “What is more logical? I heard a young girl casually calling me… or… I heard that specific girl calling for me” I twisted my mouth and stick my tong out “Come on get to the good part” I thought “But that can´t be… if she called me why would she leave? Maybe because I left her for years? I have to go an look around town” he sated to walk to the door I try to move quickly but ended up falling on my butt as Yun opened the door “Young lady…” he made the same expression he does when he is angry at Anre “were you spying on me with an empty glass of water?” quick I need to think of something not incriminating “Yun if I wanted to spy on you wouldn’t using my gift be better than using a glass of water?” he was not convinced “in that case why do you have an empty glass of water?” I looked from side to side with my eyes looking for a good explanation “Well I thought you might need some water but I fell see?” I showed him the water spilled on the floor he just sight “I don’t have time for this I am willing to believe your totally real story but right now I need to go for a walk”

“Oh, what a coincidence I wanted to see the water well Saki told us that is a great place to make wishes is like a shrine thing can I go with you? You know since you are one of my guards and all” he just muttered a quiet “fine” and made his way to the front door unfortunately for him Anre and Parker joined in on our water-well trip,  there were some people around the Well most were prying and tossing coins a few others had stalls to sell souvenirs and other items, things like prayer beads, amulets, and some other religious objects “I understood Karolin´s interested on this place, but why do you two came along?” “Yun you know I used to be a priest, therefore I would like to see some religious spots on our trip as to cultivate a better theological belief” “I'm just here to make sure the Lass is okay”

“well since we are all here, why don’t we make an offering for the Well?”  I took four coins out of my pocket and gave them to the guys, the wooden board near the Well introduced us to toss a coin as we said our prayer “I wish for more books to read!” Parker stated as he tossed his coin into the bottom of the Well “I wish to have a good dinner and some booze!” Anre followed him “I wish to have a safe Journey!” I tossed my own coin and waited for Yun to make his wish “…” Yun just tossed the coin into the Well “Hey that’s against the rules, cheater!” Anre accused Yun, “I don’t think there are rules on wish granting water-wells, besides…” he turned around and walked towards a street “What's the point of wishing for things that can't ever be?” Yun disappeared amongst the people in the street, “Yun…” Parker sighed “Don’t take it personally Karolin it was a good idea to bring us together but Yun has a lot to think about” “Any of us would, Lass you have to understand that we are going back to where our lives went to hell, no wonder he is acting like this” I nodded “you guys are right, hey since we are here would you two mind coming with me to talk with some of the relatives of the missing people?
