I Became a Farmer After the Dungeon Break (Hiatus)

Waking Up

Waking Up

Aug 17, 2024

Once he defeated all of the bats, he felt a lot more comfortable looking for any ores or rocks. He took out his pickaxe and slowly made his way through the second floor. It was a large floor, with small torches along the walls of the cave. There wasn’t a lot and it didn’t give a lot of visibility, so Freyr found himself feeling his way through certain areas.

Thankfully, there were no other monsters on the second floor.

He continued through the next three floors by killing the monsters first before looking for stones, ores, and gems. He only found one quartz and 20 iron ores.

On the fifth floor, there was an elevator that let him go back to the first floor. This elevator would show up every five floors, making it easier for him to continue to go down the mines.

Even though he unlocked the fifth floor, he didn’t want to continue anymore. He was tired of battling monsters and mining, so he decided to go back to his farmhouse.

For the next three days, he watered his crops using the newly obtained rain spell that he got from one of the quests and then went into the mines.

On the seventh day, he was finally able to harvest his potatoes. With each potato plant, six potatoes were hiding in the roots. In total, there were 2,400 potatoes. Since it took seven days to grow, the gains from it were quite high. He received 400 gold coins after finishing the potato quest. After that, he sold 1,195 potatoes for 40 gold each which had a total of 47,800 gold coins. Potatoes seemed like a gold mine to him!

He was tempted to sell the rest in his bag but he held off on it. He wanted to sell it when he woke up, so he had to resist the urge.

After planting and harvesting all of his crops, many other crops opened up for him because his farming level went up to level 10. Not only that, he was able to pick a bonus ability for his farming skill.

In the end, he decided to increase the sales price of his crops by 10%. This would allow him to make more money to increase the number of plants he could grow.

With his fat wallet, he decided to buy more potatoes, carrots, and turnip seeds. He bought double the amount this time around. He also bought the three newly added crops: cauliflower, garlic, and cucumber. He bought 40 bags of seeds for these three crops. Cauliflower and garlic only grew in spring on this dimensional farm, so he wanted to get as much garlic as he could.

Of course, there was garlic in the real world, but a lot of the food in the United States has to be imported because of the chemical pollution in the soil and water. Not only that, but many places that were ideal for growing vegetables all year round got swallowed up by the oceans. Many coastal towns of the past were underwater and teaming with monsters and other sea creatures.

Fresh food was getting expensive. Many have resorted to eating plants and animals from the dungeons to sustain themselves.

With the dimensional farm, Freyr would never run out of money or food.

If only there was a way for other people to enjoy the luxuries he had as well…

Well, that was a thought for the future. For now, Freyr wanted to take a nap. For some reason, he felt really tired even though it was still daytime…

*****

After falling asleep, Freyr woke up but didn’t see the familiar ceiling in the farmhouse. It looked like the white ceiling in a hospital. He could hear a beeping sound coming from the side of his bed, but he couldn’t move his body well because it was stiff and sore.

Did he return from the dimensional farm? How did he end up in the hospital?

As he was trying to figure out what happened to him after defeating the giant worm, a doctor and a nurse rushed into his room.

“Mr. Tran, you are finally awake! My name is Doctor Ian Hernandez.” The young doctor with a surgeon’s cap and blue scrubs asked, “How are you feeling?”

“A little stiff… Sore.” Freyr's voice was hoarse from not drinking water.

“No pain?”

“No pain.”

“That’s a relief then. Let’s sit you up and do some tests. When it is all clear, you can drink some water.”

Freyr complied and let the nurse help him sit up.

The doctor and the nurse ran some tests. All his tests came back normal, so they let him drink some water. Freyr was healthy, just a bit sore from laying down for a week.

After that, Dr. Hernandez asked if Freyr had any questions before letting him rest up some more.

“Thank you for taking care of me. Do my parents know I am in the hospital?”

This was the most important thing because he didn’t get the chance to say anything to them when the dungeon break happened. His parents were probably so worried that they hadn’t heard from him in a while.

His parents lived in a different safe zone from him because he had to move because of his job. Freyr thought it would be fine to move to this city because it was a designated safe zone since the start of the dungeon breaks. Who knew that one moment’s negligence would lead to the fall of a long-standing safe zone...

“We contacted your parents, but this entire area is not safe anymore, so only hunters, essential workers, and patients have been staying in this zone. You can contact your parents whenever you are ready.”

“Thank you, Doctor Hernandez.”

“It’s no problem at all. Oh, before I forget. The person who saved you, Lucian Park, wants me to call him after you have woken up. Is that okay?”

“That’s fine. Could you thank him for me?”

“Of course, but I’m sure he will visit you after the phone call. After all, you have woken up as an S-ranked Hunter.”

“That’s true…”

Even though Freyr was a normal person before the dungeon break, he did know of the top Hunters in the United States. Lucian Park was a name he was familiar with because many Asian Americans looked up to him. He was, of course, one of those people.

Since Freyr didn’t need anything else, the doctor and nurse told him to press the bell if he needed anything. Then they left the room so he could rest.

Freyr finally went to sleep, no longer in his dimensional farm.

*****

The next morning, Freyr woke up no longer stiff or sore. He stretched his body and found he was much stronger than he was before the dungeon break.

It was still early in the morning, so he still had an hour before someone came around with the breakfast he had ordered the day before.

Since he had time, he decided to look at his hunter’s status now that he was out of the dimensional farm. Plus, he wanted to see if he could go back there without having to be in a coma…

His status looked like this:

Name: Freyr Tran
Rank: S
Level: 12
Occupation: Dimensional Farmer

HP (Health Points): 620
MP (Mana Points): 940

Str (Strength): 90
Def (Defense): 62
Spd (Speed): 91
Acc (Accuracy): 57
Int (Intelligence): 94

Every Hunter’s base stats depended on their rank. After that, their stats would increase depending on their occupation. There were the offensive, defensive, and support occupations.

Offensive occupations were those who specialized in combat like swordsmen or mages. Defensive occupations were considered tanks that protected the team from attacks. Finally, support occupations included healers and less commonly, vocational jobs like alchemists, blacksmiths, tailors, and even farmers like Freyr.

As a farmer, his stats prioritized strength, speed, and intelligence. He needed strength because he needed to be able to fight the monsters in the mines, break rocks, cut down trees, and plow the soil. If he didn’t have enough strength, he would get easily tired while farming. That meant he wouldn’t be able to plant and harvest a decent amount of crops.

As for speed, he needed to be quick so he could move through the mines and his large farm with ease. If it took him five hours to get to the other side of his farmland, he would miss the optimal time to water his crops.

Finally, intelligence was needed to increase his mana, which in turn, would allow him to use magic that could help him on the farm. Furthermore, in the future, he needed mana to tame monsters to help him on the farm and in dungeons.

All of the stats increased for specific reasons. Luckily, he was given three bonus points after each level, so he had some control over where his stats could go.

It was the first time he had seen his stats after coming back. Before, he could only see his base stats and not the stats after leveling up or stat allocations. That meant, when he was fighting in the mines, he was fighting as a level 1 Hunter.

Freyr saw he had a lot more strength than he previously thought a farmer would have. Well, he didn’t plan to be an offensive Hunter.

It was better to be in the back providing support. That way, he could pick up new materials from dungeons or tame monsters.

Truthfully, he didn’t like fighting all that much, but all Hunters had to go into dungeons even if they didn’t want to…

Grandpa Marky: Hey everyone! I was supposed to update earlier. It took me FOREVER to calculate the stats. I ended up creating the base stats for all ranks at level 1 and then figured out which stats increased (based on occupation) and by how much. Not only that, had to decide how many bonus points to give. Then I had to calculate Freyr's stats. Honestly, it took some time but I think it was worth it! I also needed it to make sense, so yeah, there are reasons as to why the stats are the way they are...

After gaining the powers of his favorite fantasy farming sim, guilds wanted him to join them to conquer the dungeons and towers that plagued their world. Freyr didn’t want to go into dungeons or towers, though.

All he wanted to do was farm and take care of his tamed monsters!
