While last episode I focused on ACG characters that are also D&D characters, today I'm going to go over all the characters who have slightly different backgrounds!
As a general note, most side characters (eg Reyna, Micheal, Milo's family, most of Calixa's guards etc) are 'NPCs' in D&D and/or simply in ACG! Basically these are genneraly OCs (original characters) I build as I was building the main characters.
1. Corym Bloom - art by @hesterfunhart on insta! So send some love, this piece captures him so well!!
He/him, pan
Corym started off maybe in the worst way for a character I adore so much - I needed to design 'Milo's partner who died'... so of course my brain decided to make a character that is, as Mary Poppins would put it 'practically perfect in every way'. I found my conversation with a friend while designing him.
- I was drawing him as a half elf and suddenly Corym was purple lol
- In everything I wrote he was half-elf and not a drow... and them I drew him as such and it made so much more sense
- What if Lockwren IS his mom?! I never would have imagined it but... it would explain LOADS. Since she's fae it would explain his affinity for music and dancing and pretty things, it would explain his magic, his confidence. And it also checks out... his dad is in jail for witholding information, she often ends up with criminals. It makes SENSE.
My character design process varies wildly OC to OC but Corym had a wonderfully 'organic' growth. I started drawing someone for Milo, and the more I thought of him, the more his build made sense. I wanted him to oppose Milo in that he's so, so full of wonder and creativity and confidence. He wasn't really meant to be elaborated on, he was 'just' supposed to be someone Milo had lost.
I have no regrets writing him in a much more elaborate way, he's now one of my favorites.
2. Ezra James Trice Ostium - art by @melangeeru on insta!
He/Him
Ezra has a fun background. A couple of years ago, I played in an Amnesia D&D campaign, in which the DM made us characters based on a keyword, and we figured out our stats as we went along. The word I provided was 'Jasmine'. The DM also asked for a name, I gave Ezra. While my design for him is very different than our DMs, that's his origin story. He was built to be a protector. And I loved that combined with the jasmine flowers so much that I couldn't help but elaborate on his build and make him Calixa's spirit guard.
I'm so surprised with how much good feedback I've gotten concerning him! I had no idea anyone would even like him at all! He's unfortunately a character I tend to 'ignore' too much, I should make it up to him and draw him soon! It's been too long!
3. Other non-D&D Characters and their Inspo - the fun ones
Kovan - I liked the idea of stroking someones cheeks and there being tiny little feathers.
Tiv - Litterally the color turqouise combined with a sword
Ereniel - LONG STORY but I co-designed him with my friend @nellofdestruction on insta a month or so someone tried to pass of art of Eren from AOT as Milo fanart lol. Bouncing off that, we called our fallen angel Ereniel.
Emilia - I had a green plant that grew orange flowers in a tan pot. That color combo and the fact it was flowers inspired her entirely
