My younger MAN is a WOMAN?

2 - Director K

2 - Director K

Aug 23, 2024

As the clock ticked past the usual lunch hour, the director showed no signs of leaving his office.
I was caught in a dilemma. Should I go for lunch alone, or should I stay here? The idea of skipping lunch on my first day crossed my mind, but the fear of losing my job kept me rooted.
I kept working until the file was done. When I looked back at the clock, it was already 13:39 pm; lunch was gone.

The director's office door opened then, and I greeted him.
"Director K," he stood there confused, looking at me. Then he looked at his watch on his pole.
"What are you doing here?" he asked, clearly taken aback by my unexpected presence.
"Eh, ah... the document..." he frowned, stroking his forehead. It's lunchtime," he said, taking a break.
"I'm sorry. I did not know if I was allowed to go or not, and I didn't want to disturb you," I answered, telling the truth. He stood there, looking at me for a second, adjusted his tie, and made me sign to follow him.

I immediately took my phone and document from the desk. The director turned around and said, "Put the documents down and follow me." I did as he said, put the document on my desk, and took my bag and phone.

Standing beside him in the elevator, I couldn't help but glance at his handsome face. His tall, slender figure and wavy hair were indeed gorgeous, but those pair of eyes—God, they were something out of this world.

That elevator took an eternity, but finally, we arrived at the subway park. I followed him until we reached an expensive black car, then he opened the door and jumped in. I stood before the vehicle until he opened the window and looked at me.
"Come on, jump in, we don't have all day," he said, annoyed.

I opened the car door, got in the passenger seat near him, put on the seatbelt, and stayed quietly while he looked at me. I did not dare ask anything; it felt like I would make him angry, so I stayed silent.

His figure was impressive; long legs, muscular, and hot could be seen even through his suit.

He drove for about twenty minutes until he parked in front of a restaurant outside the city. I silently followed him inside the building and got outside on a small veranda in the back. There, a waiter was setting the table.

"Set it for two," the director said to the waiter. Yes, sir, as you desire." The man looked at me and immediately went to get another pair of dishes.

"Maria, sit over there," the director said, pointing to the chair before him. I took it and sat down.
Before I could say anything, the waiters had already put everything on the table. The director looked up at the trees and felt the calm breeze coming through, moving his wavy hair. He closed his eyes and let the wind caress his skin. I would never be able to see such an incredible view.

Once we made our orders, I noticed that the director chose only vegetables for himself.
"Are you perhaps vegetarian, sir?" I asked without thinking. "Stupid me, learn to think before you open that mouth," I told myself.

"That's right," said him without adding more.
I ordered the steak with broccoli and baked potatoes. The dish was delicious. The meat was so tender that it would melt in my mouth.

While eating, the director stood there looking at me, so I forgot about him; I was digging into my food.
"You was deffinitely hungry," he said, giggling.
An embarrassment that got me red and peppered. " You're right, but this meal is very good too," I said excitedly.

At that moment, behind me, a woman with a Cheff apron started to laugh at my sentence.
"It's good to hear that someone appreciates my food," they said while approaching and giving the director quite a look.

"How is your food today?" asked the director, who was starting to frown before answering.
"edible," they said before turning toward the tree.

The woman sighed, "Alright," she turned to me. Then, miss, you're new over there," asked the chef.
"I'm Maria, the new secretary of the director. It's a pleasure to meet you," I answered politely.
The woman was somehow surprised, then she let out a big smile. "Nice to meet you too. I'm Maya, the chef. Then we will see each other frequently," she said before returning to the kitchen.

She left without saying anything to the director, who was frowning like a kid whose candy had been stolen.
"Ahem," I tried to catch his attention.
"I completed the file you gave me this morning and rescheduled everything according to the instructions I found inside," I said before taking a good sip of water.

"you had no problem?" asked in the merit of the file filled with errors.
"There were some errors, but I managed to reschedule it. The only thing I have to adjust is a meeting with the director Kaji of Soleil, who has yet to confirm it." I gave a simple and concise answer because I know workaholics usually prefer to save time, like my old boss, who would always yell at me.

"Good job. His secretary should give an answer this afternoon, and after that, report it immediately to me," he said, sighing in frustration. It looked like Kaji was always giving him a hard time.

We ended the meal and took off. I opened my purse to pay for my meal when the director showed my hands off. "This is on me," he said. Then he swiped his black card, and we returned to the office.

It was already 15:52 pm, and we had two hours of work left. The director returned to his office; the pile on his desk was double as I first saw this morning. Just how much of an amount does he have to do?

I returned to my desk and gave the file I had worked on one last check to ensure it was all good. At that moment, the phone on my desk started to ring.

"Good afternoon. I'm Maria, director's personal secretary." I answered the phone, and suddenly, a man from the other end said, "Good afternoon. I'm Director Kaji's secretary. I'm calling to confirm our appointment for Friday at 10:00 am. " He had a cordial way of speaking.
"All right, it's all set then, see you on Friday, Goodbye" damn, my first phone call, and I looked stiff as hell.
"Thank you, Goodbye," said the men before hanging up.

I finally had the last piece to add to the schedule and could give it to the director.

I took a deep breath and knocked on the director's door. "Come in," he said.
"The schedule is ready for the next two weeks," I said, handing him the file we started scrolling through. "About Kaji?" he asked.
"His secretary just called and confirmed your appointment for Friday morning." he nodded in approval.

"All right," he said, watching the busy schedule ahead. "If you wish, you can go for the day." I understood, but there was still more than one hour left.
"I do still have some time left before finishing my shift. If you have more work to do, I'll gladly help." Hearing that, he looked straight at me. "But if you want me gone, I'll do as you ask," I continued.

After rushing into some data, he made me sign to sit down and gave me a paper with some percentages.
"Just control it based on this other data distribution," he said while giving me another paper. You know how, right?" he continued.

"Yes, sir," I said, getting up. Where are you going?" asked him, looking at me, "to my desk." Was I not supposed to?

"Do that here. I'll need that as soon as possible, " he continued while returning to his job. I dug in the paperwork, took his marker, and completed the task. He and I didn't talk for the next hour; the tips on his computer, keyboard, and paper rushing could be heard.

The voices around him did not do him justice. He was a hardworking man, polite and dazzling—not that crazy monster everyone was so afraid of.

I said that without knowing, that I would end up in a hell of an office the following day.

This is a good start! But I think if you play around with spacing in the dialogue, it could help with readability and pacing. It’ll make a big difference, especially for a novel. You are already there 😉
