Chapter One

 

Reality

Rereading the paragraphs "UGH!" she growls "I cannot believe I wasted my night" after a few clicks a new document is open "that was total garbage, trash. restart" she demands stretching her back, and cracking her fingers.

 

"But, before that" she steps away from the desk, heading towards the bathroom "Toilet first" she rubs her neck.

The door wide open, as she takes a seat on the toilet "ugh! I really shouldn't sleep at my desk" she winces, rubbing her neck some more, shifting her head side to side, up and down, she glances at her feet. 

"Huh" she finishes her business on the toilet, before taking a closer look at her feet. "How did I scrape up my feet so bad" she winces at the touch "Well, whatever" she brushes off the cuts, as she aims for her computer again. 

"New idea, new idea" she murmurs to hers8elf repeatedly "fantasy, action" she rambles "fantasy with action, action with fantasy" her head bounces from side to side, swaying with her body "AH-HA" she smiles bright, as her fingers type away.

A few hours late, she pulls her attention away from the computer "alright, how many words per chapter again" she questions looking back at the contest rules.

"1500-2300" she flinches "eh- I still got 1100 words to go" she sighs, discouraged "and that's the least amount of words needed" she rolls out the chair to stretch "well, no pain no gain I guess" she resumes the project, when moments later "BUZZZ" her phone draws her attention.

"Hello Mama" she speak into the phone

"Your brother and I are right around the corner, are you ready" 

"Ready for what" her brows curl in confusion

"We were going to go for lunch since Luke and you rarely have the same days off"

"Ah! Shoot!" she mutters away from the mic

"You forgot didn't you Lily- again"

"What- no of course not- ah!" she stammers flailing around to get ready "I am ready! I was just touching up a few things that distracted me from the time but-" she sighs, locking up the apartment "I am walking out the door right now" she smiles wearily as if her mother could see through the screen "I'll see you soon, love you mama" she clicks the red phone button with a sigh of relief.

"I cannot belief I almost- scratch that I did forget" Lily pouts on her way down the elevator. Walking out of the building she flinches, stepping into the car. 

"Hey, you are way too young to have Alzheimer's already" her mother cracks "Har- Har" Lily sarcastically laughs along, leading Luke and her mother to seriously crackle.

Beside Lily, is a buckled in baby, resulting in Lily to brighten up "You brought Kyle" she smiles, making a silly face towards Kyle. Leaving the two in the front seats to smirk at each other "What-" Lily tilts her head to see their faces "what are those smirks for" she frowns "fine don't tell me" she flings her arms in front of her "why did I even come" she pouts some more, as she makes goofy expressions towards Kyle. "Yea Kyle, it's just you and me" Kyle coos at Lily "what's this" Lily's voice pinched as she gasps playfully "I got your nose" she taps his nose leading him to coo some more. After a few more times of making goofy faces, Kyle starts to fuss "Op-" 

"Don't worry" Luke glances into the review mirror "He just ate when I picked mom up" he looks back at the road "He just really hates the car-seat" 

Lily looks back at Kyle, as he is getting louder and louder  "well, we can't have you scream all the way there" she winces as her feet touch the random trash that cloud the car floors.

Lily hums, and before she finishes the makeshift lullaby Kyle was fast asleep

"Wow" Luke a gape in the review mirror "even though the song was awful"

Lily scowls towards the front "at least I can sing"

"Eh-" Luke insinuates tilting his head away, as he turns left.

With a sigh full of annoyance "Luke- stop teasing your sister- you guys are adults now" she lectures while playing on her phone.

"Sorry mom" 

"Sorry mama"

The twins say simultaneously, followed 8by the car falling silent, for but a minute, as a rumbling vibration is felt originating from the driver seat "EW- gross Luke" Lily scorns waving the smell away, only to have Luke crackle at the situation to where even their mother is wheezing along with Luke "Mom- stop laughing, you wanna be down wind of that" the words Lily springs just result in the two to laugh even harder.

Arriving at the restaurant; Blair's, the two in the front pile out of the car, while Lily unbuckles Kyle and Luke collects the car-seat.

Once seated the three skim the menus.

"So, Lily what's happening with you" Luke pries

"Not much, eat, sleep, work, and repeat" Lily answers, scanning the kids section.

"Your life can't be that boring, anybody you interested in" her mother chimes.

Lily sets her menu down slightly aggressively "was this your real intention" her eyes glaring at the two across from her. "You guys cannot be serious right now" Lily's hand waving in the air "what is this, some type of wanna be intervention" she vents, while her disappointment is apparent.

"Wow- Lily" Luke chokes back his laughter "how long have you been holding that back"

"We were only asking, no need to explode honey" her mother plays victim "we won't bother asking how you've been, let's just enjoy our lunch" 

"Are you kidding me" Lily slowly boiling up "You guys are really acting like I'm being sensitive right now" she pouts "how many times does this make" she glares "Answer me- Luke" turning towards her brother for back up.

"Ah- I guess we have done this a few times "he caves to back her up.

Leaving no room for her mother to guilt trip her "Luke, I thought we had a plan" their mother slips.

"Mom" Lily snaps

"What is it so bad I don't want my baby living a life of a crazy old cat lady"

"Don't worry mom, she won't be a crazy old cat lady" Luke chimes in "she's allergic to cats" he kids as he makes a bottle for Kyle.

"LUKE" both Lily and her mother snip.

In surrender the three glimpse each other, before crackling. 

Moving along different topics over the course of their meal and before long the check comes.

On the ride home, Lily winces a little louder, "Why do you keep doing that" Luke's expression, annoyed "you keep gasping and to be honest it's getting very annoying" Luke sighs.

"Gee- Luke, I'm fine, thanks for asking" Lily snips "I'm just a little sore form sleeping at my computer"

"You slept where" their mother interrupts "why did you sleep at your desk again" She tries to spin around.

"It was an accident" Lily shrugs "I was working on something and dozed off" 

The car pulls to a stop as they arrive at their mother's house.

"Lily- don't sleep at your desk- if I hear of this again" her mother ponders "I'll stay at your place for a week" she threatens.

"What-" Lily gasps while Luke slips a chuckle.

"Try me little girl" her mother points her finger at Lily just before walking off towards the door. 

"Well, you heard mom, just don't sleep at the desk and you're safe" Luke shares some advice.

"Is that what you heard" Lily smirks "Cause, I heard that if she hears of it, she'll come over" Lily nitpicks, glimpsing Kyle. only to hear a sigh of disbelief coming from Luke.

"Pick-A-Boo" Lily flashes her face before hiding behind her hands "where's Kyle" her voice a squeak "there he is" hearing Kyle's coos, she squeals "oh my goodness, you're just an itty squish-ball aren't you" she taps "I got your nose" she slightly pinches "I got your toes" he coos at her.

Soon, he pulled into her apartment complex "Hey listen Lily" Luke stops her "I'm sorry we bombarded you today" Luke flashes a pitiful gaze "Mom's just worried about you" 

"Nah- Luke" Lily sighs "It's not even that. if you guys wanna come by and be nosey that's one thing" she gestures opening the door "but, that is not what you did, you guys deliberately lied to me" she explains "that's what's most disappointing" she taps Luke on the shoulder "Bye Luke, get back safe" she demands "text when you get home or I'll hound Becca until you do" Lily threatens.

"Eh- you are your mother's daughter" he cracks.

"I learned from the best after all" Lily agrees, aiming for the building, while Luke drives away.

Eventually, Lily makes it back to her desk. "Alrighty then, where as I" she skims the computer screen and continues typing away.
