Evil came in many forms, the worst of of them all was when it was wrapped in sophisticated charm. Alpha Felix- her beloved fiancé, was such an example. As soon as Eileen walked into the room and declared her presence, he rose up to greet her. He walked towards her fluidly, like a panther approaching his prey, and grabbed her cheeks in an almost crushing grip. He murmured softly, almost lovingly, 'my mate' , before proceeding to kiss her on the forehead. She felt a surge of nausea at the contact and tried to pull back but his grip was too tight. She struggled to move her lips and with grave effort, gave him a fake smile and whispered back, 'my alpha', trying to force affection into her tone.
It was a terrible charade, and unnecessary since they were in private.
Apparently her acting skills could use some polishing because he narrowed his eyes at her, like a viper, and abruptly let her go, causing her to stumble back. He slid his hand around her waist to steady her and brought her face close to his while looking down at her with a smirk. Seeing the fear and apprehension in her eyes satisfied him, so he removed his hand. She stepped back in relief, put some distance between them and tried to force breath into her lungs, struggling not to show how suffocated she felt.
He kept his smile in place even as his eyes had sharpened and told her to take a seat while moving over to the trolley in the side of the room which was overflowing with various types of liquor. He mixed them two drinks of his own liking, without asking her for her preference, and walked over with the half filled glasses of golden liquid before setting it down in front of her and taking a seat across from her. She wanted to refuse but still thanked him while bowing slightly and wrapped her hand around the glass.
He looked over at her and told her, 'It's champagne.'
He took a sip from his glass and leaned back.
'Figured I'd let you know because you aren't used to things of luxury, given your slave status', he smirked at this, his words dripping with condescension.
She suppressed the urge to throw the glass in his face and simply nodded, before proceeding to lift it to her lips and pretending to take a sip. Call her a coward but anything provided by him couldn't be trusted, even if he consumed the same thing himself. She set it down with the excuse that it was too strong but he was watching her lips and it was clear that he knew that she had been faking it.
'As much as I'm enjoying this useless role play,' his voice darkened at the word useless.
'There has been a slight issue that I wanted to let you know about. The crescent blue pack will be joining us shortly and there's a chance that they'll negotiate for a peace treaty,’ he continued.
Her brow furrowed in surprise, she was already aware of this.
'While they'll here, maintaining appearances will the crucial. So you'll be moving in here, into my room for that time being.'
Dread shot through her veins but she still nodded, knowing that there was no way out if this. She glanced up when he grew quiet and felt so exhausted by the conversation already that she was about to ask him to grant her her leave when he continued still, 'the crescent blue pack has decided to form a coalition with a bioluminescence pack.'
He delivered this last shocking blow with an imploring gaze as he tried to gauge her reaction. Her mind began to swim. The bioluminescence pack. Her brother's pack. It took everything for her to maintain a passive look even as her blood boiled and she felt the irresistible urge to slam her fist into something. She wryly wondered what her brother would think of her if he saw her now; of her new position, and as if sensing her thoughts, Felix flashed her a wolffish smile.
'How do you intend to handle him?' The nonchalance in his tone made her fury peak even more. She turned around, giving him her back as she said, 'whether he exists or not doesn't matter to me.'
He laughed out loud at this, clearly enjoying himself.
'You don't sound so sure of yourself, darling.' Her skin prickled at the endearment.
'The fact that you're so angry in the first place suggests otherwise. It seems like you actually do care.'
This made her stiffen- partly because the asshole was actually right about her. She left the room in a few short strides and had the urge to slam the door but stopped herself at the last second and allowed it to click shut instead. She won't let this get to her, she just won't.
