The day Lifu had been eagerly waiting for arrived sooner than expected. As he stood at the entrance to Rising Star Academy, he couldn’t help but feel a mixture of excitement and trepidation. The academy’s gates loomed before him, intricately designed with symbols representing each element. Beyond the gates, he could see the sprawling campus, a blend of ancient stone buildings and lush, well-maintained gardens. The academy was both beautiful and intimidating, a place where dreams were made or shattered.
Tumo, who had also been accepted into Rising Star Academy, bounded up to Lifu with his usual energy, his ears twitching as he took in their surroundings.
“Can you believe we’re actually here?” Tumo exclaimed, his tail swishing excitedly. “This place is amazing! I can’t wait to start our training.”
Lifu smirked. “Better watch out, Tumo. I might just leave you in the dust.”
“Ha! We’ll see about that, Lightning Boy!” Tumo shot back playfully.
They stepped through the gates of Rising Star Academy, their new lives beginning with each step they took. As the gates closed behind them, Lifu looked around at the other students entering alongside him, all of them filled with the same sense of anticipation.
The two of them made their way inside the main building, joining the other new students in the massive central hall. The ceiling was impossibly high, adorned with a fresco depicting legendary battles and feats of magic.
As he continued to take in his surroundings, a voice echoed through the hall, commanding their attention.
“Welcome, students, to Rising Star Academy.”
The voice belonged to Lord Sefu, who stood on a raised platform at the front of the hall, his presence as commanding as ever. His gaze swept over the assembled students, and when his eyes met Lifu’s, there was a moment of recognition, a silent acknowledgment of the potential that had brought him here.
“You have all been chosen to join this academy because you possess exceptional abilities, skills that set you apart from others,” Lord Sefu continued. “But make no mistake, being here is only the beginning. The path to greatness is filled with challenges, and it is up to you to overcome them. We will push you to your limits, test your resolve, and shape you into the warriors and mages this world needs.”
Lifu could feel the weight of Lord Sefu’s words, the intensity of his gaze as he spoke. This was no ordinary school. This was a place where the strongest were forged, where only those with true determination would succeed.
“You will be divided into classes based on your affinities and current skill levels,” Lord Sefu explained. “Your instructors will guide you, but it is your own dedication and hard work that will determine your success. Remember, in Tagati, strength is valued above all else. Those who cannot keep up will be left behind.”
The students murmured among themselves, the gravity of the situation sinking in. Lifu glanced at Tumo, who looked equally serious now. This was their chance to prove themselves, to rise above the rest.
After the welcome address, the students were directed to their assigned dormitories, where they would be living for the duration of their time at the academy. Lifu and Tumo were placed in the same dormitory, much to their relief. The dormitory was a large, stone building with a spacious common area, individual rooms for each student, and training grounds just outside.
As they settled into their new rooms, Lifu couldn’t help but feel a sense of anticipation building within him. This was his new home, the place where he would train, learn, and grow. That night, as he lay in his bed, staring up at the ceiling, Lifu’s thoughts turned to the future. What would the coming days hold? What challenges would he face? And more importantly, would he be strong enough to protect those he cared about?

Morning came quickly, and the academy grounds were already buzzing with activity as the students prepared for their first day of training. The air was crisp, the scent of dew clinging to the grass as Lifu made his way to the training grounds with Tumo. There was a nervous excitement in the air, a palpable energy that made Lifu’s heart race.
The training grounds were vast, with areas dedicated to different forms of combat and magic. There were sparring arenas, archery ranges, and even a large lake that shimmered in the early morning light. Students of various ages and skill levels were already hard at work, some practicing their combat techniques while others meditated in preparation for their magical training.
“Welcome to your first day at Rising Star Academy,” a booming voice greeted them as they arrived. It was Master Amani, the Earth Sage, standing tall and imposing at the centre of the grounds. His presence commanded attention, and the students quickly fell silent.
“You may have heard tales of this academy, stories of the great warriors and mages who have trained here,” Master Amani began, his voice carrying across the field. “But let me be clear: legends are not made in a day. They are forged through hard work, perseverance, and the willingness to push beyond your limits. If you are not ready to give everything you have, then you are in the wrong place.”
The seriousness of his tone set the mood for the day. Lifu stood straight, absorbing every word. This was the beginning of the journey he had longed for, and he was determined to rise to the challenge.
Master Amani continued, “You will be split into groups based on your affinities. Each group will be assigned an instructor who will oversee your training. Lifu Stormborne, step forward.”
Lifu’s heart skipped a beat as he stepped out from the line, feeling all eyes on him. The mention of his name seemed to ripple through the students, many of whom had already heard about his dual affinity. Master Amani looked at him with a keen, assessing gaze.
“You will train under Lady Isolde and Master Zuberi,” Master Amani announced. “Given your unique abilities, you will need to master both your water and lightning affinities. They will ensure you receive the training you require.”
Lifu nodded, feeling a mix of pride and apprehension. He knew Lady Isolde’s reputation, and the thought of training under her was both exciting and intimidating. Master Zuberi, on the other hand, was known for his speed and precision, qualities that Lifu knew he would need to develop if he was to master his lightning affinity.
Tumo, on the other hand, looked slightly envious. “Man, you’re going to be training with the best. I bet you’ll be zapping people left and right in no time.”
Lifu chuckled, appreciating the attempt to lighten the mood. “Let’s just hope I can keep up.”
As the groups were divided and sent to their respective training areas, Lifu found himself standing with a mix of students, some who shared his affinities and others who didn’t. Among them was Tia, who had been placed in the same group due to her elemental affinity with fire.
“Looks like we’re stuck together, after all,” Tia said with a playful nudge. “Try not to show me up too much, alright?”
Lifu grinned, feeling more at ease with Tia by his side. “I’ll do my best.”
Their group was led to a large clearing on the training grounds, where Lady Isolde and Master Zuberi were waiting. Lady Isolde’s fiery red hair caught the light, her eyes sharp as she surveyed the new students. Master Zuberi stood beside her, his expression calm and calculating.
“Welcome to your first day of real training,” Lady Isolde began, her voice carrying the weight of authority. “We don’t have time for pleasantries. You are here to learn, to push yourselves beyond what you think is possible. The weak will fall behind. The strong will rise. Which will you be?”
The training began in earnest, with Lady Isolde taking charge of the students with fire and lightning affinities, while Master Zuberi focused on those with wind and water. Lifu was paired with Tia and a few other students, each tasked with basic exercises to demonstrate their control and power.
“Lifu,” Lady Isolde called out, her gaze piercing. “You first.”
Lifu stepped forward, nerves prickling at the back of his neck. He had trained in secret back home, but this was different. This was his first real test in front of others.
Lady Isolde raised an eyebrow, clearly expecting something impressive. “Show me your control over lightning.”
Taking a deep breath, Lifu focused on the energy within him, the spark that had always been there but was now more pronounced since the crystal had revealed his affinity. He raised his hand, and with a flick of his wrist, a bolt of lightning arced through the air, striking the ground with a crackling burst of energy.
The other students murmured in surprise, impressed by the display. Lady Isolde, however, remained impassive. “Not bad. But lightning is not just about raw power. It is about precision, speed, and control. You need to strike not just with force, but with purpose.”
She turned to Tia next. “Tia, you’re up next.”
Tia stepped up with a confident grin, raising her hand as flames ignited around her fingertips. With a flick of her wrist, she sent a stream of fire shooting forward, twisting it in the air before letting it dissipate. The flames were bright and hot, but controlled, a clear demonstration of her natural talent.
“Impressive,” Lady Isolde said, giving Tia a rare nod of approval. “But you’ll need to work on your endurance. A long battle is just as much a test of stamina as it is of skill.”
As the training continued, Lifu found himself struggling to keep up with the demands of mastering two elements at once. Lady Isolde and Master Zuberi pushed him hard, expecting nothing less than perfection, while Tia and the others advanced with their single affinities.
It was exhausting work, but Lifu refused to back down. Every time he stumbled, he picked himself up again. Every time he failed, he tried harder. He knew that this was the only way he would grow, the only way he could truly become strong enough to protect those he cared about.
By the end of the day, the students were exhausted, their bodies sore from the intense training. But there was a sense of accomplishment in the air, a feeling that they were one step closer to achieving their goals.
As they walked back to the dormitory, Tia fell into step beside Lifu. “You did great today, Lifu. It’s not easy balancing two elements like that.”
Lifu shrugged, still catching his breath. “I have a long way to go. But I’m not going to give up.”
Tia smiled, a rare look of genuine admiration in her eyes. “I know you won’t. That’s what makes you different from the rest.”
Lifu returned her smile, grateful for her support. “Thanks, Tia. That means a lot.”
