"Empire of Cassial"

Mircea and the scent of tulips

Mircea and the scent of tulips

Aug 28, 2024

Kylos finally began to speak:

"He gave me his handkerchief. It seemed like I was in an embarrassing situation... I tried to change the subject... This place is beautiful. Is it yours?"

"No, it belonged to my late father. I just take care of it. I love gardening, as you can see."

"Yes, the field is lovely. You must be a good gardener."

"You were flying a moment ago. Are you from Cassiál?"

"Oh, yes. How did you guess?"

"Everyone knows that only the people of Cassiál have those wings... They're very beautiful."

Kylos smiled gently, "Thank you."

"Please, join me for dinner. Come closer. I was going to eat alone, and luckily, you showed up."

I followed him to the dining table. I couldn’t refuse; I was hungry and exhausted from searching all day, and the sun was about to set. But what I saw was truly enchanting: a luxurious dining table set in the middle of the expansive field, surrounded by colorful tulips. The table was made of old oak wood, its surface elegantly polished, reflecting the soft glow of the setting sun. Around the table were hand-carved chairs covered with soft cushions, ensuring comfort for the guests.

The table was surrounded by a ring of dazzling tulips, carefully arranged to create a natural border that highlighted the beauty of the place. The tulips ranged in color from bright white to deep red, with shades of pink, yellow, and purple, creating a harmonious painting reflected in the dishes.

On the table, a pristine white tablecloth adorned with small tulips spread out, scattered with petals that seemed to have fallen from the sky. The gleaming plates and glassware added a touch of luxury, reflecting the soft light from small lamps hanging above the table, illuminated by warm candles, creating an intimate and romantic atmosphere.

The ambiance was peaceful and filled with nature, where the sounds of chirping birds and the whisper of the breeze blended with the fragrant tulips surrounding the place. The air was fresh, and the sky above was clear, tinged with pink and purple at sunset, giving the moment a sense of magic and eternity.

"One moment..."

"What?"

"Did you prepare this dinner for a date or something? Is your beloved coming? If you're waiting for someone, I’ll leave."

He turned to me and smiled.

"Haha, no, don’t worry. A friend of mine was supposed to propose to his beloved here, and we prepared the place since morning, but he backed out."

"Why?"

"Haha, that fool loves her without her knowing he exists in her life. When he went to invite her to dinner, she told him she couldn’t go out with anyone other than her lover and that she was getting married next week."

"Oh... What an awkward situation... And what happened to your friend?"

"Nothing important. He’s used to rejection. He’ll be sad for a few days and then come back to bother me. Don’t worry... Please, sit down before the food gets cold."

I sat down to eat.

"Shall I pour you some wine?"

"Ah, yes, please."

"The food is very delicious."

"I’m glad you like my cooking."

"Wow, are you good at cooking?"

"I enjoy learning different things."

"There was something odd about him. The way he spoke, how he ate, his mannerisms, and even his clothes... He seemed noble, as if he were from a noble family."

"So, you said this place is your late father’s inheritance, so it’s yours in the end, isn’t it?"

"Oh, no. My father left this place to my younger brother. He pretty much left everything to him..."

"Really?! Why?"

"I don’t know, but I always felt he didn’t like me. Sometimes I think I might have been adopted... When he died, I wasn’t sad, and when I learned he left everything to my brother, I didn’t care. But my brother insisted on dividing the inheritance between us. My brother and I have a strong bond, but I refused. After much insistence from him, I only took this place because I love it."

"Oh... I notice you’ve planted a lot of tulips. It seems you love them."

He looked around at the tulips, took a sip from his glass, and smiled sadly.

"Tulips, when I see them, I feel an overwhelming sadness and immense happiness. Every time I look at them, I feel something strange, as if I am connected to them, as if they remind me of something or some place. Every time I try to understand this strange feeling, I fail. So, I decided I want to be surrounded by them only. That’s what I want."

"Tulips have their symbolism in Cassiál. White represents new beginnings, purple symbolizes royalty, yellow is for joy and happiness, and red stands for love and passion."

"It seems Cassiál, as I’ve heard, is a place full of beauty."

"Yes, it is."

"Then, since you have those purple eyes, you must be from the royal family, right?"

I smiled at his calm demeanor and serene smile. Usually, people either tremble or bow in reverence when they recognize me, but he was exceptionally calm.

"Haha, yes. Can you believe we got so caught up in things that we forgot to introduce ourselves? Kylos Cassiál, the Grand Marshal of  Cassiál Empire"

I extended my hand for a handshake, and he shook it.

"Kristin Aron. I don’t have many titles, , to offer haha."

"Aron?!!! Isn’t that the title of Selestin Aron, the former Minister of Dracon? Is he your father?"

He noticed Kylos’s glass was empty and refilled it.

"Unfortunately, he is the former minister of that scoundrel."

"The scoundrel? Haha, it seems you don’t like him."

He took a sip from his glass.

"Why would I like that senile old man who believes in superstitions? He wants to drag the entire continent into chaos to free Serathor, that madman who thinks he’ll achieve immortality, or at least gain what Cassiál has. Fortunately, he’s dead. I just hope he rots in hell."

------

"Ha, I agree with you. I hope so too. So, do you live alone in this place?"

"Not long ago, I lived here with my wife and son, but now I've been living alone for several years."

"Oh, I hope I haven't brought up a painful memory."

"No, not at all. They are still alive. My son lives with his mother and her new husband and his siblings... We divorced a long time ago."

"That's strange."

"What's strange?"

"How could you get divorced from a man like you? You seem like the perfect type for any woman."

He looked somewhat surprised by Kaylo's comment but ended up refilling his glass and taking a sip, then smiled and said:

"Yes, I am. She didn’t want the divorce either, but I convinced her to go through with it. My brother is a good husband. I hope he treats her well."

Kaylos spat his drink out unintentionally.

"I... I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to."

"No, it’s fine. Are you okay?"

"Your brother... are you saying your brother married her... damn, what kind of brother is that?"

"Please, don’t concern yourself with it. I don’t care much about the matter. All I care about is my dear son, and as long as he’s happy, I am too."

We exchanged some more words, then I decided to get up.

"It was a pleasure meeting you, Mr. Kristen."

"Likewise, Marshal Kaylos."

"Just Kaylos."

"Then call me Kristen."

"Haha, alright, Kristen. I hope we meet again."

"I hope so."

---

"Wait, we rely on you to find our brother, and you... oh, let’s just be quiet."

"Phoenix, what do you mean?"

He crossed his legs and finished his drink in one gulp.

"Brother, did you like the guy? Should we bring him here?"

"Brother, Evie, let me strangle this fool."

"Phoenix, respect your older brother."

"Evie, can’t you see his behavior? Why is he suddenly being friendly with someone he doesn’t know?"

"Yes, Phoenix is right. Why are you being so friendly with him?"

"Don’t be like that, Evie... I was friendly because he reminds me of Demic."

"Really? How so?"

"I don’t know. Although his face was hard to remember for some reason, his scent, behavior, and even the way he spoke were so similar. From the moment I heard his voice, I felt like I had found our brother... Let me not lie, I was suspicious of something like this. Who would benefit from taking our brother? Who wants to take revenge on us specifically? But I couldn’t bring up the matter or share my suspicions, so I tried to talk to him for as long as possible. Haha, he really is like our foolish brother. He’s so confident."

"Haha, the kind no woman could refuse, haha."

Evianus said this while laughing.

"Oh, damn it, I think I misunderstood. Forgive me, brother."

"It’s okay, I’m used to your foolishness."

"So, Kal, how did you confirm it was him?"
Alexander asked curiously.

---------

Kylo sighed deeply and rubbed his face with his hands.

"It was somewhat difficult. Everything pointed to him.. his love for tulips, his taste in food ,my brother Demic is good at cooking, as we all know. Even his way of walking and his self-assured demeanor. But what terrified me most was the idea that he was married. If he is indeed my brother and has a child now, what would I tell Jina, the poor woman who has been waiting for him for years?"

"Brother, it doesn’t matter. Jina will understand. What matters is that Demic is indeed Kristen."

Elias said.

"That’s what I thought too. Demic, and why don’t they return to the kingdom? It’s a question that’s been on my mind for a long time. They might have been young when they were kidnapped
, but they are strong.

So, the one who kidnapped them must have something bigger or a stronger plot, something that could affect our sensitive brother. His feelings were disturbed after his mother was executed. Perhaps someone exploited this. So, who could it be? Who was angrier about the execution of his mother but did not act openly? Now it was just a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time that got him into this trouble."

"Dracon Morgadin... the King of Mirasia and the chief sorcerer who sent his daughter to seduce our father... that wretched woman who used to whip our brother Demic, even though he was just a child. Neither she nor her father would hesitate to harm him. And since she was executed because of our brother, her father would surely seek revenge, directly, unable to break the peace pact between the seven kingdoms on the continent. So..."

"So he would kidnap our brother and brainwash him," Alexander said.

"That’s exactly what crossed my mind when I saw Kristen Aron, especially when I heard that damned title, Silas Aron. He was belittling our brother, making him feel unloved. How I wished to go to his grave, dig up his body, and burn it."

"But you weren’t sure it was Demic," Evianus asked in astonishment.

"He is my brother, my heart told me so, everything pointed to him. But I couldn’t inform you because I was also doubtful. I didn’t want you to get your hopes up. Plus, I didn’t find him at the moment, so I decided to keep it in my heart until I knew the truth, and I repeatedly visited Kristen. Each time, I was more certain it was him, but why doesn’t he recognize me? Why can’t I remember his face? But damn it, why am I confused? This is the kingdom of the greatest sorcerers on the entire continent; surely that damned man, who is supposed to be his grandfather, has used powerful magic on him, stripping him of his identity and memories. I remained puzzled until this day..."

"This day?" Evering asked in surprise.

"This very morning... I went to Kristen to confront him with my suspicions, but what I saw there drove me insane."

"What did you see?" Alexander asked.

"Rather, who did I see... I saw him... with long black hair and purple eyes... that fool, Killian was there talking to Kristen. He wasn’t paying attention to me; he was occupied with Kristen. Then suddenly, I noticed him strike Kristen’s chest hard with his hand, and a wave of black magical energy erupted from his body and enveloped Kristen. The power was immense, everything around us was shaking. I couldn’t see due to the intensity of the energy. As you know, Killian’s mother is also from that kingdom and inherited her magical abilities. And when it was over, you wouldn’t believe what happened."

"What happened?" everyone shouted in unison.

"Demic was now on the ground, unconscious, and Kristen Aron was our brother. In my shock, Killian noticed me, smiled, and called me."

"Kaylos, it’s good to see you again, brother."

I ran up to him quickly and hugged him.

"Oh, can you move away, Kal? You’re suffocating me."

I quickly stepped back and grabbed his shoulders, shaking them, unable to believe what I was seeing.

"Killian, how... how did you do it? I can’t believe it, we finally reunited."

Kaylos’s strength gave out, and he fell to his knees. Killian tried to support him and knelt beside him.

"Brother, calm down, it seems you’ve become very emotional in the years I haven’t seen you."

Kaylos held Killian’s hand.

"Brother, please let’s go home quickly, our siblings are waiting for us."

Killian frowned and pulled his hand away from Kylo.

"Sorry, Kal, I’m not ready to go back yet."

He stood up, moving away from them.

"Killian, you fool, why are you doing this? Don’t you think of us? At least think of your father; he’s fallen into a state of depression, he’s not like he used to be, he speaks little and doesn’t eat much. Why have you abandoned us? I don’t understand."

Killian stood frozen in place, clenched his fist tightly, turned to face Kylo’s gaze.

"Brother, I can’t return yet, I have a lot of unfinished business, I will finish it and come back. Tell Father not to be sad."

"Why didn’t you use the Arcano and send us a notification? We would have come to capture him with you," Elias interrupted.

"I tried, but as soon as he noticed me while I was extracting him, he knocked me out with his magic. I didn’t wake up until after sunset, so I was delayed in bringing them back. When I woke up, I found they were still asleep. I used teleportation to bring them to the palace. The rest you know."
