Here she was crossing the street to return from lunch break. Spent in the car as usual. It was now tradition to eat meals beside her tree. Afterward discrete blazing with an herbal vaporizer. The clouds were dancing. Leaves  looked stunning. She even saw whimsy within the vehicles speeding on smoldering streets. This place was not remarkably beautiful, but Mary Jane made everything so. 

Incoming bad trip. Work jerk appears to cross her path. Running into him like this was murder on her nerves. She tries to be cool. Is anything but as she follows his back to the building lobby. Regretted meeting his gaze when they stood waiting for a lift. There was no good reason to notice each other now. Asking anything to a crush with a new girlfriend seemed pointless and dreadful. 

Stepping into the stinky metal box alongside him brought further panic. It was a relief to see others boarding. No, now it was too many people, and he was right beside her. They could all smell the weed she bet. Could they also hear her heavy breathing? She fidgeted with the volume dials of large green headphones over her ears. Drown out the unintelligible small talk. Why had the woman in front of her just kicked the air? Startled, she brought one hand up to hide involuntary lip chewing. Best not to read anything into this guy and his weird fixation with following her just after rejecting her ass. To hell with the tease.    

The workday itself had been uneventful. Stupidvisor was still on vacation so people were mostly chill.  Her lovely neighbor to the left was away in Germany. Most other cubicle dwellers didn't chat her up on a regular basis. It was her own doing; having settled into the role of dark bitch who blasts music all day and don't say much outside of work related conversations. 

People came and went a lot in these sort of places. Sometimes you ran into them again at the next company. Everyone was mental, herself included, so friendships seemed to only last a mere season or two. Not worth all the emotions in her humble opinion. If only she could stop getting crushes on every long haired wanker they hired at her jobs, that would be great. 

One person who stood out to her lately was this older lady. They had both worked in the same place previously. Lady had features that resembled her own complicated mother, and grandmother at the same time. Big glasses over sharp dark eyes, a strong nose, expressive lips and curvy figures. Some of her greatest neurosis stemmed in not ending up like the women of her family, so traipsing over habitats of a similar creature seemed like an omen of doom. The lady whose name she had somehow not learned despite all this time, hustled to her humble car at quitting time, rushing past the idles and people with friends to say bye to. 

Now she thought she recognized her face one whole town over, in this gym she had specifically hoped would see no coworkers. No glasses on either of their faces now, so it was hard to tell. All kinds of nonsense about time traveling ancestors filled her mind while she struggled to lift a very minimal weight above her head. She loved the concept of multiverses, and getting to chill with alternate selves. Now that's a worthwhile relationship if there ever was one.
