Driver side window down,
passenger up because her stylish mini backpack sits shotgun while she
waits in the lot of a local eatery. Phone in hand, she fidgets with
social media applications. A few minutes pass. They say wait is 7
minutes but it is always more. An employee walks out with her paper bag
of greasy chicken and favorite side dishes. Food is graciously received.
He walks away from the sound of her failing ignition. Wow, really...
Here? Now? The car is dead.
Ringing dad. Asking him for help is a mixed bag. Today is not the lucky day. He proceeds to be rude and very little use. His fits during life's inevitable chaos are draining. How do people get to that age without understanding gravity? She pushes back the despair irritating her pores. Ringing mum. Asking her for help is normally a last resort but... her latest boyfriend drives a tow. Mum chirps greetings at her. She sounds happy, then again she always does until suddenly she's screaming some crazy rude bullshit. If both her parents were obscene drama queens, what chance did she stand of attaining the quiet, peaceful life? Thank God mum decided to behave herself this time.
Everyone at the eatery ignored her sullenly sinking into the driver's seat of this dead ass vehicle. Some bitch parked adjacent and dared to slam her goddamn doors against it. By the third time our girl caught herself talking shit, more at the wind than this objectionable lady. Still the bitch ceased her ridiculous door mismanagement. Texting younger sister in the meantime. Both their days were sucking more than usual.
She did not wait long for mum's tow truck driving bf. Suspiciously nicer and chattier outside of the house. Also quite useful with this car conundrum. He backed it out of the eatery all by himself and finally resolved it was a case of dead battery. Taught her a thing or two about the car's current faults, which she appreciated. He went on and on yapping as the car imposed on a narrow road. Many people complained but she dismissed it. Considering herself rarely in the way, and prioritizing gratitude to this man who had rescued her from the sorriest Friday evening she'd had in a while. It felt weird to be indebted to him, and mum who she avoided so often. At least she could go home now... The food was cold.
