At the wedding reception, the cold atmosphere was maintained. Nova is not throwing a single gaze at the man opposite to what he is doing, which is observing her every move.
“Shall we introduce each other?” he initiated, but she didn’t respond. “I’m Lucas Anderson. You are?” Nova still didn’t respond. Instead, she stood up and attempted to leave the room but was interrupted by her father, who prohibited her from leaving. As she couldn't do anything, her eyes landed on the wine on the table and opened it. Lucas was still carefully observing her moves. The one glass became two, then three, and then she decided to take the bottle and drink it from there. As the guests were starting to stare, Lucas decided to stop his wife.
"N-Nova, you can’t drink it directly from the bottle.” Then he attempted to get the bottle from the grip on her hands, but she shoved his hands using her other hand.
“Who are you to stop me?” She slaps his hand out of the bottle. “Pft, your face looks funny,” she said after looking at him. “Are you embarrassed? Are you scared of your family? I mean, I didn’t do anything wrong. I was just drinking wine... from the bottle,” and then she started laughing mockingly. “Oh yeah, I heard you’re the puppet of Anderson’s, right? I'm part of Anderson now, so I can benefit from it, right?” she said, then proceeded to take a sip from the bottle but was stopped by Lucas. “Let me do what I want!” she insisted, but then Lucas completely snatched the bottle from her hands and handed her the wine glass.
“Yes, you’re now Nova Anderson. You have the privilege to make use of me as a puppet,” then she poured wine on her glass, “Starting as your wine pourer.”
The two then proceeded to be quiet and continued observing the guest. Nova continued drinking with the help of Lucas, who would pour whenever the glass was empty. Tomorrow comes, and now they will officially live together under one roof. The Anderson’s insisted on them living on a new property, but Nova was adamant about living in her mother’s house, as that was the initial plan she had. She entered the house and reminisced about the memories she had with her mother.
“So this is where you spent your childhood?” Lucas asked, and once again Nova ignored him. She entered her parents room and unpacked her things. Lucas also entered the room and started unpacking when Nova stopped and looked at him, confused.
“Mother said we should share a room. Father also said that we should start making a family then –”
"Oh, shut up,” she interrupted. “What are you? A grade schooler who was asked to behave on their first day? You can’t force me to share a room with you or start a family. That’s stupid,” she uttered. “I'm an Anderson, right?” he nodded. “Do you see another Anderson here?” he shakes his head no. “Then in this house, I’ll be the one controlling you, understand? Now, unpack your things. I don’t care where you place yourself in the house. I don't care what you do. Just get out of my way and mind your own business,” she said annoyingly, and Lucas just obeyed. She looked at the room and went to her mother’s side of the bed. She laid herself there. Nova closed her eyes and imagined the warmth of her mother’s embrace until she fell asleep.
Lucas is now settling down in one of the guest rooms of the house. He can’t believe that he will become a married man in the blink of an eye. Though he prefers to be here with her than to stay in his father’s house, where he is like walking on eggshells,.
Lucas is an illegitimate son. Despite being one, he is born, raised under Anderson's wings, and even adapted the family name as he is the only male offspring after 3 daughters. Because of their standing in the house, he and his mother were treated badly. Lucas saw how his mother suffered in the house, where she became a personal servant of the lady of the house and was abused physically and verbally. To avoid this, at his young age, he started obeying all the words spoken by the Anderson’s in exchange for her mother’s freedom, hence the nickname of him being the puppet of Anderson’s.
After all those years of suffering, he thought they would be finally free when her mother died of an illness. Lucas grieves the loss of his mother. He thought he would be free after the death of his mother, but the day after the funeral, his father announced Lucas’ engagement at the family dinner. He denied it at first, as it was against the idea, but his father threatened him about his mother’s grave. That’s when it really struck him how wicked his father is.
The day of the wedding. He saw his bride walking down the aisle with his father, Nova Reed. He is uncertain if his life will still go through hell, but as he gets to know her just for that day, Lucas is somewhat relieved.
Their day goes by as Lucas prepares the table, having a quiet breakfast, Nova tending the house, studying, having dinner, then sleeping. That became their routine for the whole three years of their marriage, up until Nova gave birth to their daughter on the day of their wedding anniversary.
Visible on Lucas's face is the happiness he felt for his daughter, but Nova feels the opposite. As she stares at his face, she remembers that day at the hospital. Afraid of what her daughter would feel in the future—the time when Lucas will go back to the woman he loved or if he ever finds another woman to love. Will history repeat itself? Those are the thoughts that kept running through her mind.
Lucas looked at Nova and caught her staring at him. He smiled at her, then saw a tear go down her cheeks and attempted to wipe it, but Nova turned her head away. In those three years, she might have treated him coldly, but he can sense the care she shows him. For the first time, he felt the comfort of home, and now it’ll be complete with their daughter, Luna.
Days have passed, and Nova’s attitude towards Lucas suddenly went back to the time they first met, was ignored, and has been giving him cold shoulders. Despite all of that, Lucas remained understanding as he thought of it, just as Nova felt stress after her pregnancy. The two of them became great parents and loved their daughter with all their hearts. Another 5 years have passed. Luna started going to school, but after all those years, Nova’s treatment of Lucas hasn’t changed.
“Time for school, Luna. Say bye to mommy.” Luna rushed over to Nova and gave her a hug. She waved goodbye and had Lucas assist her in riding the school bus.
Lucas enters the house and sees Nova cleaning up her painting materials. She will go hide in her room until Lucas leaves for work. It became her routine after Luna went to school, and it’s been a week. He grabbed her arms and faced her.
“Nova,” he called, and they met each other's eyes. Seeing her this close, it’s the same eyes he saw on his wedding day—lifeless and empty. “Is there something wrong?” She didn’t respond and just shoved him away.
“Go to the gallery. You’ll be late,” she timidly said, locking her room. He let out a sigh and prepared himself to go to work. Days passed by, and he still hadn’t managed to completely confront Nova about her worries. When that time turned into years, the incident happened.
On a cruise decorated with party balloons and people dressed as pirates and princesses, they’re celebrating Luna’s 7th birthday and the 10th wedding anniversary of Nova and Lucas. Meanwhile, as she was busy taking care of Luna, a group caught her attention. Lucas and his parents, together with a woman dressed as a pirate, talk and laugh with them.
“Mommy, let’s go to Daddy,” Luna requested. She looked at her daughter's face. It deeply resembled hers. Her smiling face reminds her of that time before her father arrived in the hospital room.
“He’s still busy, Luna. Why don’t you play with your cousins?” Luna then obeyed. Nova looked at the group again, but now Lucas was looking and smiling at her. He walked, smiling, toward Nova. She remained stoic when he stopped in front of her. She looked at his back, and there was that woman walking towards them.
“Nova, this is Karina, an old friend of mine. She just came back from abroad. She’ll be actively helping the business, and she’s our new art curator at the gallery,” Lucas introduced.
“Hi," the woman greeted, but Nova remained silent.
“Karina, this is my lovely wife Nova. She’s a bit grumpy, but she’s loving.” They both laughed, but Nova just threw a glare at him and was not laughing. Lucas excused himself as Nova suddenly walked away. She entered their room, and he followed.
“Look, I didn’t mean to introduce you like that. I was just joking.” Nova remained unbothered and opened a wine bottle. “You’re drinking? Nova, it’s Luna’s birthday. You can’t drink,” he said, snatching the bottle. Lucas looked at her with pure confusion, looking at her state. After all those years, it has happened. Tonight will be the night he can ask for clarifications.
“It’s also our wedding anniversary, Lucas. Let me drink to my heart's content just for today. Dad will take care of her.” She picked up the wine glass and sat on the couch. “Remember our wedding day? I command you to pour some wine on my glass, my dear puppet.”
