No good story would be complete without a scandalous dream sequence. However, to keep this from spiraling in a sultry, downward direction, I—the author—will heavily edit the information that has been recovered from a Tumblr post that once got lost in the shuffle before being ultimately deleted. Regardless, it survived due to Phoebe taking and re-posting a screenshot to Twitter because she thought it was hilarious.
Anyhow, during said dream sequence, May falsely woke up to discover she was waking up in T's arms. After some things which have been omitted, she gazed upon T's face in the morning light to recognize that this was what she wanted her life to be like.
Therefore, it was startling when she woke up laying on the ground against a tree with her backpack behind her head. In front of her, Phoebe stood with binoculars, scoping out the forest.
"Tell me you've jumped out of a tree before," Phoebe said.
"Huh?" Rubbing her eyes, May winced from the brightness of the sun.
"A tree. Jumping."
"Why the hell would I do that?"
"I mean, you're about to. We both are."
May rubbed her eyes again, hoping she might wake up into a version of reality that made slightly more sense. "No. . . I'm not."
"How else are we going to go through the portal?"
"The what?"
Phoebe gestured at the tree. "The portal to the other realm! That's where the files came from with all of the names in them."
"You mean the story from that book you've been reading?"
Phoebe groaned, rolling her eyes. "Books. Pay attention."
"Why would—"
"Jumping out of a tree is how they made it happen in books one through four, excluding three! Now, come on. If you time it just right? You might be able to move your body along with the wind." That was when Phoebe took a pose that could only be described as some type of bastardized, Dollar General brand of yoga.
Trying to get the wheels of her head to spin round and round enough for this situation to make sense, May just stared at her.
"What?" Phoebe said. "You've got that look."
"Um. . . the one where I have no idea what you're talking about?"
"Yep. That's an ugly look, you know."
Frozen in placed, May lamented on what she agreed to. She also flashed back momentarily to that day she stoop at T's doorstep, wishing she could be bold. "You mean. . . to tell me. . . we're. . ."
"On a mission? Precisely." Phoebe sat her backpack down, unzipping it to rummage through.
"Slow this down for me, again." May approached her, looking directly into Phoebe's eyes. "We are going to do what and why?"
Phoebe slowed it down all right; she dragged out her words like May couldn't understand English. "You. Me. Jumpy out tree. Get blasted through portal. Go to other world. Because of. . ." She pulled an extremely old, tattered book out of her backpack. Much of it was ripped. The word 'FILES' was still apparent.
"Um. . ."
"This is an adventure. Like in my books. You ready or what?"
May stood frozen for a while longer, until that frozen feeling melted to become a simmer, a boil, and then finally, an explosion.
