DONOVAN
I fucked up. I really did. Big time. Since that day, Piper hasn’t been talking to me, he would ignore me, eat alone, and spend his time both in his room and in the library. Whenever I tried to converse with him, he would walk past me and not listen to what I had to say. All I wanted was to explain to him I was at a party and that the scent that stuck in me was from no one important, I could tell him it was from Helena, my ex-fiance but that would probably make him fire up more.
Honestly, the fact that he got jealous made me happy. That meant he really cared about me, but still, I didn’t want him to be so upset with me. No flowers or gifts could make up for this, I needed to do something more special to him but I didn’t know what. It was the weekend and Richard must have noticed my stress because he decided to help me. Genevith too.
“Why don’t you cook or bake something for him?” Richard suggested to me and I pondered on that.
It was true that Piper had a great passion for food and desserts. And among the articles I read to court him, it said that gifts made by oneself had more value than something bought. So yes, making him something was a good idea.
“I’ll make him a cake, he likes cakes,” I said determined. Richard and Genevith looked at me with concern.
“Do you need my help, sir?” Genevith asked giving me a worried look.
“No need to, you are both dismissed. I can do it alone.” I said to them giving them a sign and looking for an apron so as not to get my clothes dirty.
“Are you sure?” This time it was Richard who asked. And I sighed. These old couple won’t leave me alone, huh? They raised me so I get their concern but still, I believe I can do it alone. It’s just cake.
“Yes, following a recipe won’t be that hard,” I said trying to calm them down and make them leave me alone so I could start. “Come on, you two can go. Go have a date or something.”
“Okay, but if you need anything just call for us,” Richard said again.
“Sure, sure.” They gave me one last worried look and walked outside of the kitchen.
I was left alone in the kitchen and took my phone out to look for a recipe. The first one I found was chocolate cake; I thought it was easy to make. I looked for all the ingredients and placed my phone down ready to prepare the cake. I would make the best apology cake ever.
‘Are you sure about this?’ Dorian asked.
“Yes, this shouldn’t be too hard,” I said determined.
PIPER
Feeling thirsty I left my room after debating if I should or not. I didn’t want to see Donovan and I knew he would probably be somewhere in the house because it was the weekend. Deep down I wanted to talk to him but also my anger against him was still within me. I knew I overreacted and I should have heard him out but just thinking about him having the scent of another around him got me seeing red from anger. It must be due to the bond but also the fact that I was more attached to him now.
Walking down the stairs the smell of smoke came to my nostrils as I saw towards where the kitchen was seeing a lot of smoke coming out from it. I froze. A fire? There was a fire in the kitchen? Where was everybody? Where was Donovan? I felt my legs tremble remembering that day but took the courage to go see what was happening. What if someone was injured? I covered my mouth and walked into the cloud of smoke and was shocked to see who was the source of it.
Donovan was standing there, with the oven open and the smoke was coming out of it. One of his arms was full of feathers and he was moving it around to dissipate the smoke. I hurried and went to open the kitchen windows leaving more room for the smoke to come out, I walked past Donovan and to the oven shutting it down and closing the door for now.
“Oh Piper…uhm…” Donovan managed to say but I interrupted him.
“What were you doing? No. What were you thinking? You almost started a fire, Donovan.” I scolded him not understanding how he had come to do something so reckless. What was he even doing?
“I just…I just wanted to bake something for you.” Donovan answered looking down.
“Huh?” Was all that came out of my mouth.
“I’m sorry. I’m so useless in the kitchen but I wanted to make something for you and almost burned down my house. I just wanted to give you something special so you would talk to me.” Donovan explained looking into my eyes.
I was speechless. Not knowing what to say. Donovan tried doing something he had never done just to make me talk to him and failed in the process. It was…touching but also funny. He was covered in flour and cacao all over and the kitchen was a whole mess. So I laughed, I laughed hard almost feeling tears coming out from my eyes from all the laughing and when I calmed down, Donovan was looking at me confused.
“What’s so funny?” He asked not understanding the joke and I did something I’d been wanting to do for days—even if I was angry. I approached him and kissed him, giving him a soft peck on his lips. I walked back and he was even more confused.
“I’ll listen to you just don’t burn down the kitchen,” I said with a soft smile and then moved my hand referring to the whole kitchen. “And you have to clean all of this too.”
“Yes, yes. I will clean everything.” He said, nodding fast.
“Okay. I’m all ears.” I hoped and sat on the only clean space from the counter in the middle of the kitchen. I noticed the lust in Donovan’s eyes seeing me sitting on the counter. ‘Kitchen sex added to our future where-to-fuck list.’ Priya said making a mental list and I held back from saying anything to him because it wasn’t a bad idea.
“That day I was at a party. It was a flock party hosted by my sister, I wanted to take you with me but I decided not to because it was mostly eagles.” He started explaining. “The scent that attached to me was probably from one of the omegas I had to talk to.”
“I usually don’t like going to those parties but since Olivia hosted it I couldn’t refuse. I wasn’t doing anything intimate with anyone. I would never do any of that.” He continued to talk. “I only want to be intimate with you. You are the only one that I want, Piper.”
Hearing his words made me blush and I felt the need to kiss him right there and ask him to take me to the bed. But I shouldn’t, just not yet. First, we accept his apology and also apologize for our reaction.
“I understand. I believe you.” I said nodding and then sighed. “I apologize too, I overreacted when I should’ve heard you out.”
“You don’t need to apologize, I liked seeing you jealous. It means I’m special to you.” Donovan said with a soft smile, making me blush a bit.
“Well, you are. You are my fated mate.” I said with a soft smile and I saw a glimmer in his eyes. He was content with my answer and I was happy that he liked it.
“Can I?” Donovan asked and I knew what he was asking for by the looks he gave to my lips.
So took the lead and I kissed him passionately this time, his hands placed on my waist and my arms around his neck pulling him closer to me. The kiss turned more and more wild, I felt some shivers down my spine when I felt Donovan caressing my waist with one of his hands and I knew it was time to stop. I broke the kiss apart. Donovan looked disappointed.
“Don’t look at me like that. You have to clean all this.” I said raising my eyebrow at him.
“Yes, I have to.” Donovan sighed. I held back a giggle.
