Chapter 2 - A Fairy Ring
Emma cheerfully put on her dark ashy blue flats.
“A fairy ring!” The young girl continued. “I’ve been looking for months.” She skipped around the ring of brown mushrooms grinning ear to ear.
“What in the what is a fairy ring?” I whispered to myself.
Creek!
I swiftly spun my head around and my eyes opened wide to see that the branch I was on began to brake. I attempted to fly above the branch or grab another, but I was too slow. Before I knew it the branch had fallen and I was clinging to another, right in front of the girl.
Her eyes glew as she stared at me, “Fae!” She screamed and pointed at me.
I panic transformed into a small purple striped house cat. Loosing my grip, my claws scraped against the branches bark as I fell hard to the ground and passed out.
I do not know how much time had passed, but the next thing I knew I was in the girl’s arms and she was walking to the end of the tree line. I slowly opened my eyes, head having a stabbing pain, and saw that we were closing in fast on a white houses with green accents that had big windows, a very detailed cut grass lawn, and a flower garden. This might be strange, though, it looked as if half the house was buried; that or the tree line ended at a steep hill. As my mind started to hurt less, I began to think more. What would happen to this girl if Fletch Corp saw me with her? Would she hand me over? Is she with them? I haven’t really met anyone out of Fletcher Corp? She has to be with them right? Why else would she be in the forest? Then my mind began to focus on one thing; I have to get away!
The girl noticed I was waking up, “Oh! Wakey, wakey, little kitty!”
I pushed myself against the girls chest and started to scream.
She just continued, “Hello! You can call me Em, I know fae sometime try to steal peoples names and I’m not allowing you to do that. What would you like to be called?” She spoke at the speed of light, I could hardly understand her.
Screaming and pankicing, I transformed into a purple pika mouse and fell out of her arm. Luckily, I was able to catch myself before hitting the ground. Although, she acted quickly as well, jumping to the ground and pounced.
She’s quick, this must mean she is with Fletcher Corp, I thought.
“Got ya!” She shouted, her hands covering me in a dome shape.
I stopped screaming, and focused on my situation. I needed to get away from her! This girl was young and small, she couldn’t hold on to me if I was a big animal. I still can not underestimate her though. Then, I transformed into a purple deer. Although, that just had her on my back, but surely I could buck her off.
“Oh no.” She said quietly.
Yes, I got her now, I thought to myself. So, I started bucking as hard I could. My hooves raming against a near by maple tree, cracking the bark. The girl just hugged my neck with all her might, almost chock me.
“Let go of me!” I shreiked. “Let go of me! I am not going back just to be transferred!” I continued to buck.
“I am not letting go with out a least one wish!” She replied.
“Eh?” I stopped bucking, before turning my head towards her, “Yo-you not with Fletcher Corp, are you?” I sighed.
She looked back at me, confused, her grip not loosening, “Wh-what? Why would an electrical company be after a fae?”
I tiredly raised my hoof to my head, “Okay, I am not,” I pulled on my face, “What did you call it? A fae?” I transformed into my normal purple self.
She forced me closer, sqishing me, “No! I know you’re avoiding lying! That is just what a fae would do!” She yelled in my ears.
I pushed myself out of her grip, my hands holding her shoulders, “Listen! Kid, I am NOT a fae! I am a normal human! Now, PLEASE, leave me alone!” I sternly told her.
She shrugged, “But what about your ears, sharp teeth, horns, tail, and not to mention you can shapeshift! Oh, you are also purple!”
I let go of her, my shoulder lowered and crossed my arms, “Please don’t call me that.” I muttered.
“What was that?” She said loudly.
“O-okay, maybe I do have those… things. I am human, though.” I looked at myself, “Mostly human.”
“Mostly?” She looked at me in confusion, scratching her cheek.
I really did not want to talk about this, especially to someone I only met a minute ago. I still had to leave here. So, I quickly made a plan. We were at the tree line on a steep hill, if I could fall off this hill then I could catch myself, jump up, transform into a bird, and just fly away. A simple plan. An easy plan.
“Sorry, bye.” I quickly said, before starting to fall backwards.
The girl swiftly went to reach for me and missed my arm, “Wait!” She yelled, and began to fall with me.
This is fine, I thought to myself, I just have to move slightly. She could fall, the hill could not be that tall.
“There’s a dumpster under th-”
I fell straight into a metal box filled with bags of garbage, before she fell right on my legs and tail. Her weight crushing my thin tail. The girl hit her head on a more solid bag of garbage and passed out. I wiggled my legs, freeing myself. I crouched, my feet sinking into the garbage bags. Now covered in garbage, a moldy banana peel on my right horn, a slimy fish skeleton on my left shoulder, and several damp places all over my body, I attempted to wipe as much off as I could. Then, I peaked my head out the dumpster. The sidewalk and road were clear and noone was looking out any windows that I could see.
“Good, it’s clear.” I whispered to myself, before looking back at the girl. She was just helplessly laying there, completely pass out. I felt bad for her, I had been in situations just like her now. Many times when I was sleeping my classmates had drawn on my face, thrown books at me, even pull on my horns and tail. No, No! Ithought to myself. I couldn’t help her, first, I have to help myself. This time I have to put myself first. “She will wake up and be fine. Right now, I should get going.” I reassured myself.
I readied myself to jump out of the dumpster and just as I was about to jump, I stopped in my tracks. The girl had grabbed on to my tail, her grip squeezing tightly. I yelped.
“No.” She said, grougy. “No!” She pulled my tail closer. “Ju-just one, one wish, please!”
I looked at the ground, contemplating what to do.
“Please, I only need one wish. I wish for a friend, just one. Please!” She begged.
I sighed, lowering my shoulders and sat back down in the dumpster. I just held my knees and looking at her. I had not noticed before that she was missing a tooth on the right middle side of her mouth, along with, several bruises on my arms and legs. I began to wonder how she had gotten them.
After the half-human-half ghost, Moora accidentally escapes a secret elite training facility they are found by an energetic young girl named Emma, who shows Moora how fun living outside the facility can be. But what will happen when the facility finds Moora?
