WIP - Chapter 2 - Fairy Ring - Part 2

Sep 05, 2024

AN: This is a work in progress and will change when I get time to write and edit, just posting cause you never know when your going to die and another pair of eyes will be nice. Let me know if anything I wrote is offensive or something, I promise its not on purpose.

If you want to read all of Moora Old Beginnings Work in Progress it is up on Wattpad :)

“Can you let go of my tail? I won’t run, I promise.” I asked her.
The girl stared at me confused for a moment before she sat up, rubbing her sore head and letting go of my tail. The two of us stared at eachother, waiting for either one to speak.
“Okay,” I began, “As I said before, I’m not a fae. I don’t even know what a fae is. And I can’t answer any wish you have. I’m sorry. And I ca-should not be your friend.” I crossed my arms and my tail curled around me. “You seem like a good kid, and I am really really sorry, I just don’t want to cause you any trouble or put you in danger.” I began to look away from her, just staring at the dumpsters bottom and garbage bags, I did not have it in me to look her in the eyes. “I’m sorry.”
She looked at me devastated, like this was the worse news she ever had heard, “Oh.” Tears welled in her eyes. “Bu-but I’m… I’m sure it’s not t-that dangerous,” She sniffled, “that i-it’s not worth a friend.”
I thought about it for a moment, “No.” I shook my head and pulled closer into myself. “You don’t understand, you could get fired.” I began to stand up. “Trust me, it’s never worth it.”
I readied myself to jump out the dumpster once again. I jumped out she leared towards me.
“Wait! What did yo-”
Smash!
She gripped my ankle, and I slipped. The girl still holding me, I smashed face first into the dumpsters side. The world began to spin and I started to feel a bit nauseous.
“Wow! You’re so light?” She held me off the ground.
“I float.” I muttered, holding myself from vomiting up the maple leaves I ate earlier.
Her eyes light up again, “You can WHAT!” The girl shook her head, tapping her face. ‘Focus, Em, Focus.” She told herself. “You said I could be ‘fired’, What did you mean by that? I don’t have a jod, I’m still in elementary school.”
“Please put me down?” I asked her.
She looked at me for a moment, thinking about something. “ No…” She answered, unsure.
I slapped my face, tired and nervous, “You know like gone, expired, deceased, maybe even transfered.”
“You mean dead.” She stared at me confused.
“Yeah, sure, just please let me down now. Anyone who goes by will see me!” I said hurriedly.
She narrowed her eyes, “Okay… Wel-”
Honk! Honk! Hooonnnk!
I looked towards the house. A car started to approach from behind the house, the driver honking the horn repeatedly and yelling, “EMMA! Where are you?”
Panaking, I transformed into a twelve year old Lilly. The same face, same rank 3 uniform, a black short sleeve tutle-neck and army green cargo shorts, along with the same brown-black hair, just with a different hairstyle. Instead of her current bob, the hair was in a normal pony-tail with some hair left on the side of the face. I hid my, now shorter, tail in the cargo pants.
The car came into view, it was a RMCP patrol car, one of the worse that could have came. It parked on the road in front of the dumpster. If they had a Fletcher Corp employee with them or just knew what I looked like I would be caught. Knowing what was about to happen, I froze. At this the girl froze as well, her grip on my ankle loosening. I stared, my eyes fixed on the patrol car. It only had the driver. A lady in her early forties, she wore the RMCP patrol unifom. A light sky blue short sleeves button up under a police-blue bullet-proof vest with her badge and name tag pinned on it. Along with her police-blue formal pants, RMCP police hat, polished black shoes, and a black belt holding a tazer. Her hat, vest, and pants having dandelion yellow accents. Her name tag reading ‘Officer Marie’. She had dark coffee brown skin and her wooly black hair was in a tight bun. Her eyes tore into my soul, she looked pissed.
“Emma Marie!” She said sternly. “Why are you outside?” The lady glared at the girl.
The girl gulped, “I-I” She stammered before dropping me. I flopped on the ground like a day old fish.
“I do not want to hear it.” The lady pinched her nose and angrily sighed. “Just one day, I ask you to stay in one day.” She talked to herself. “Get over here, alright.” The lady ordered.
The girl rushed out of the dumpster, leeping over me and running to the patrol car. She look the same way I look when I break a beaker or mess up in Dr Fletcher’s class; like she was about to get beaten. I sat up and watched, waiting.
“Hi mom.” The girl said awkwardly, not making eye contact.
The officer put her pointer and index finger on her temple. “I told you to stay in today, remember?”
The girl held on to her skirt. “Ye-yeah, but you-”
The officer interrupted her, “No excuses, Emma.” She said extra sternly. The girl nodded and the officer tiredly sighed. “I love you, you know.”
The girl nodded again, she looked like she could burst into tears at any moment.
“And someone who cares about you would want you to stay safe, right?”
“Yeah.” The girl wiped away tears that were forming in her eyes.
“And the news explicitly told us to stay in today, right?” The officer tilted her head and raised both her eyebrows.
“You get to go outside!” Argued the girl.
The officer tiredly sighed again. “Yes, I do, Emma. Though, you know that is because I have to help with the search effort.” She looked at the girl, the officer’s expression was filled with thoughtfulness, caring, and worry. “Only because it is my job, and I have the skills and tools to keep me safe.” The officer looked at the girl waiting for a response.
“I know.” The girl finally made eye contact with the officer.
The officer reached her arm out of the patrol car and gently held the girl’s cheek. The girl held the officer’s hand and smiled. I stared at both of them, confused and amazed. I did not remember people could act like this.
“Are we good now?” Asked the officer, the girl nodded in response. “Okie dokie, get in the back and I’ll take you to Ms Chocan’s.”
“Aww, mom. She smells like old people!” The girl complained as she opened the patrol cars back door.
“Well, she is old.” The officer chuckled before turning her head and noticed me. “Who’s your friend?” She pointed at me.
My eyes opened wide and I started to look for a way to escaped unnoticed.
“Oh, they’re a fae.” The girl said cheerfully.
“Oh.” The officer said in surprise. “Hey, you shouldn’t be out here either. Do you need a ride home?” She shouted to me.
I pointed at my chest.
“Yes, you.” The officer sounded a little bit annoyed.
I coughed, looking as if I was clearing my throat but actually I was switching my voice to sound like Lilly’s. I made a note that if Lilly ever found out I was using her form and voice that she would kill me or at least be extremly angry.
“Yes, uh, no, I actually live right here.” I stood up and started to awkwardly walk to the nearest house. “Th-this is where I live, just let me knock on the door to alert my mom that I am here.”
The lady and the girl stared at me, completely confused, the lady very suspicious of me. I loudly knocked on the door. A taller lady answered the door. She looked to be in her early thirties. She had a light purple hijab with a matching long sleeve shirt. It had triangle and diamonds embroidered on the ends and collar. She also had baggy navy blue pants on, matching navy blue socks, and bright teal indoor slippers on. Along with pecan coloured skin, thin framed glasses, and hazel eyes. She looked at me very confused. I started to sweat.
“Hi mom.” I waved at her, awkwardly.
The lady in the door looked at me then at the patrol car, the officer waved at her from the patrol cars window, then she looked back at me. Before saying, “I have never had a kid, sorry.” She looked at me with confusion and pity. “Marie, you know this kid?”
I began to sweat more and stare at the ground under me.
“Nope, just saw them in front of the dumpster beside your house.” The officer answered.
“Oh really, okay?” She looked to the officer, “Hey, you know when it will be good for me to come outside? I got to get groceries today.”
“Nope, not yet, Ruth. I’ll text you when it’s good, though.”
“Thanks, I’ll be waiting.” The lady looked back to me, and paused. “Well, uh, I hope you find your mom, and sorry I’m not her, I guess?” She closed her door.
“Oh no.” I quietly muttered to myself.
I tried to collect my thoughts. The officer would catch me if I ran up or down the street, and if I flew or transformed Fletcher Corp will find out. They might even discredit this officer, or worse, if they knew she saw me. And if I go in the forest, she’ll follow or maybe call for backup? Whatever I do will be suspicious? My behaviour is already suspicious! I became lost in my thoughts, till a hand gently touched my shoulder. I yelped forward, turning around and stepping backward into the door. The officer pulled her hand back and gawked at me, surprised, confused, concerned, and suspicious.
“I think we should go down to the station.” She suggested.
“No!” I barked, panicking.
The officer raised an eyebrow, “Uh, Okay?” She stared, not taking an eye off of me. “Maybe you could stay with Emma at Ms Chocan’s, while I go to the station?”
“No!” I barked again. “No, no, no, I-I-I should ge-go home! My, um, dad,” I nodded. “Is p-probably worried about me. Yeah, very worried.”
The officer gave me a skeptical look, “Sure?”
“Yeah, well, I better be off.” I tried to quickly shuffle away.
She blocked my way. “I can drive you, it’s really not safe today. Didn’t you hear there is an escapee from the mental hospital? They’re armed and dangerous?” The officer looked me up and down. I was still covered in garbage, now drenched in sweat, with extremely panicked eyes. I knew she was suspecting I was the escapee.
“R-r-really?” I acted surprised, I should have known Fletcher Corp would publish a cover story to get law enforcement's help. Or maybe it was her high ups who knew and gave her a cover story? “I-I don’t really watch,” I stared at her, my mind blank. At the time I did not know what the news or what TV was. When Fletcher Corp played a video they never mentioned either. “The new?” I said very unsure, trying to fake confidence.
“The news?” She tilted her head a bit, her eyes still fixed on me. “Understandable, kids your age don’t like watching the news on average. Although, still, your,” She paused, “Your dad should have seen it.”
A pool of sweat started to form under me. “Y-yeah, uh, he-he doesn’t watch the n-news either.” I awkwardly laughed.
The officer chuckled with me for a moment, “Yeah, yeah, it is awfully depressing sometimes, that is why I always regulate it for Emma.” She moved her head as to point to the girl, who was now hanging half out the patrol cars back door, watching us. “Well, we should be off. Why don’t you sit in the front seat?”
“Golly! Sure.” I gave her an awkward toothy smile as my mind began screaming.
“Emma and you can have a playdate, I still have some work to do today.” The officer directed me to get in the patrol car.
I nodded and gulped as I walked statically to the side of the patrol car. The side I was on faced the road and more houses. The officer and I got in at the same time, and she bukled her seat beat before looking back at me with a strange expression. Noticing, I followed her actions and bukled my seat belt as well. The belt shoalder strapped uncomfortable, pinching into my neck.
