A Day Out

“That’s also not to mention I got a shirt ready to change into” Lily sighs placing Kyle into the basinet “I just haven’t had the chance to change” Lily shuffles to dress “I am sorry if I made you two uncomfortable Sammy, Junior” Lily explains, resulting in Sammy letting go of Junior.

“Just be careful, you could be in a lot of danger Lily” Sammy sighs waving her hand in the air as she takes a seat on the sofa.

“Um- “Lily’s brows furrow “I- I will be more careful” she glances over to Junior who stands still facing towards the bedrooms. “Junior? I am sorry, you don’t have to face away um-” Lily tries to apologize.

Sammy glares over to Junior

“Dude- you’re fifteen, she is twenty-four”

Sammy’s thoughts aim for Junior trying to get through to him.

“Like she said that’s practically a ten-year difference of course she sees you as a kid”

Junior swallows a breath, turning to face the two. “You didn’t make me uncomfortable Lily” he frowns “I just feel bad for pranking you earlier and trying to lie about it” Junior portrays a disheartened expression as he rubs his neck looking towards off to the ground.

“oh please- there’s the sly brother I know”

Sammy’s thoughts peer, leading Junior to glare.

“Alright, that’s wonderful-“ Lily hands clap with a smile “you two are new to the area and will be here for at most half a month” she ponders aloud “You guys must be bored out of your minds, when I was a kid, I couldn’t stay still for even a moment” she shares, moving about the apartment “you guys traveled here from who knows where and have been cooped up since then yesterday” Lily frowns pausing in her tracks “So it is my duty to show you two around” she smiles brightly in excitement.

“Wait- Lily” Sammy pries “don’t you have work to do?”

“No worries, Sammy” Lily explains “I work weekend nights” she pauses “it’s summer so you just gotta make sure not do anything illegal got it” Lily’s expression sour with her finger point in their direction.

“Illegal?” the siblings’ glance at each other.

“Now, go get what you need, we will leave after I pack the diaper bag, Lily’s expression bright with anticipation.

“Hey Junior, if it was a dreamer that came after Lily because of us- “Sammy follows behind Junior as they head to the rooms “is it safe to go outside, let alone go out with her” she questions with caution.

“Since they already know of her existence” Junior glances towards the blissfully ignorant Lily “then I think it best we were with her”

“But you only can read minds, and I don’t have complete control over my talent yet” Sammy frowns gripping the doorknob “we have no way to go on the offense” Sammy states looking back at Junior who still gazes towards Lily.

“Ugh!” Sammy grunts in frustration “you and dad are literally the same” She slams the door.

“What I do?” Junior, with a confused expression enters the room “is she giving a compliment or insulting me” Junior ponders collecting his phone.

Before long, the four leave the apartment. “So where are we going” Junior questions walking beside Lily.

“Hmm- you guys were in a hurry so you must not have brought much” Lily ponders aloud “let’s go shopping for some outfits” she smirks towards Sammy.

“Do you like shopping” Junior thinks aloud as they approach a Jeep.

“Eh- not really unless it’s important” she places Kyle in the car seat that sits in the middle of the back.

Junior leaps into the front seat with Lily, as Sammy climbs into the back next to Kyle. “You are so annoying” Sammy sighs out “How can you hound Lily with so many stupid questions” she rolls her eyes, crossing her arms in front of her.

“They might be stupid to you” Junior smirks “but they are important to me” Junior glares into the backseat.

“Well, I bet Lily likes some peace and quiet” Sammy snarks resting her head on the metal frame of the jeep.

Switching on the radio, the song sooths Kyle to sleep “What is this song” Sammy asks closing her eyes to the beat.

“Oh, it’s one of my favorites” Lily smiles after finishing mouthing to the verse “It’s start over by NF” she glances in the review mirror “looks my little nephew takes after my music style” she snickers looking back to the road.

The car falls quiet for they just listen to the music until the jeep’s hum dulls. “Alright where to first” Lily questions parked in the lot full of cars.

“What do you mean” Sammy looks about to see where they are.

“Well, it’s easier just get our shopping out of the way before looking about the town” Lily explains “so lunch or shopping first” her gaze shifts from Junior to Sammy back to Junior.

“Garr”

Sammy and Lily look towards the sound “lunch it is” Lily chokes back her snicker.

“Dude, you should have said something if you’re hungry” Sammy crackles aloud ruffling Junior’s hair from the back seat.

Lily collects Kyle, before the group makes their way to a restaurant Lily suggests “Blair’s” Sammy questions.

“This place has a lot of fond memories for me” Lily’s smirk weary “well, minus the recent ones but, still a delicious treat” she grins.

The three enjoy their meal, with small talk to get to know one another, and before long the kids were smiling along with Lily as they toured the area, going from one shop to another.

“Ugh! I’m exhausted” Sammy plops herself on the park bench.

Sitting beside her, Junior gulps down the rest of his soda “you’re so weak” Junior snips “unlike myself” he plays cool.

“Right tell that to the sweat dripping off your brow” Sammy points before leaning her head back, looking up at the somewhat clouded skies.

Lily stands in front of them, with Kyle fast asleep in the stroller. Subtly looking about. “Alright, it’s getting late guys let’s head back” she says faintly looking off to corner of her eye.

“I still can’t hear her”

Junior’s expression grim as he tries to focus on Lily

“that’s them! Tell the others”

A gruff voice resounds, startling Junior “S-“

“Sammy, I need you to take Junior and Kyle to the car”

“Huh- where are you going” Sammy questions taking the stroller handle.

“There’s a store I need to drop by first”

“Then we can come along” Junior steps in

“It will only take a minute” Lily’s voice icy, and her eyes weary.

“Lily-“

“I will see you guys soon” Lily nonchalantly walks away

“Civilian adult woman clear, stay alert civilian child still in vicinity”

“Sammy there are people here” Junior grips her sleeve “I think Lily is going after them”

“What do you mean” Sammy frowns taking a step back

“We have to go help her” Junior pleads

Sammy falls quiet, as she stays on course to the car “Where are you going Lily is the other way” Junior shouts “we have to help her”

“Junior- “Sammy glances towards Kyle “Lily left Kyle to us” she looks in the direction Lily went “We only knew her for less than a day” Sammy shifts towards the car’s direction “and yet you’re putting your life on the line for her”

“Are you really just going to walk away” Junior plants himself “Like you said this is our fault we put her in danger” his fist clenches “and like Lily said this morning- we should take responsibility of our actions” Junior shifts away “if you wont help then I will” Junior bolts.

“You think I don’t want to take action” Sammy frowns moving the blanket from Kyle’s face “like mom and dad always do” she sighs “but – Lily trusted Kyle’s safety to me, I have to protect him” she states with conviction, as she watches the back of Junior fade.

“I guess that makes two putting their lives on the line for a complete stranger”

“You better do as you say and bring her back safe” Sammy hollers having the couple passing her look startled.

“What do you think I plan t6o do” Junior hollers back, he pauses before shuffling down an alley.

“Where is she” he looks from one side to another “she has to be around here” he focuses trying to listen out.

“Ugh, did he have onions for breakfast, his breath stinks”

“Yay! I got a bonus; mama needs a new pair of shoes”

“How could she, after all I did for her, she goes off with some other guy”

“I need to block all voices out, I can’t hear Lily so- I should focus on the voice I heard earlier- the gruff, smoker tone- “Junior stands still listening, waiting-

“What! Even with some talents we’re dropping like flies”

“We should have brought a stronger talent, one with a physical attribute”

“There!” Junior hollers catching the sight of Lily’s dark brown waves in the distance “LILY!” he shouted

“Good! One came to us”

One of the voices peer closer to Junior as the man leaps from the fire escape.

“Your fight is with me” Lily clenches, as she sprints towards Junior. However, the man lands directly in front of Junior, leading Junior to fall back.

“Why are you doing this”

“Which talent did he have again”

The gruff voice hesitates, when he reaches for Junior “that is above my pay grade kid” he snickers before toppling over Junior unconscious.

“Let’s go well” Lily grips Junior’s wrist and makes a run for it “I don’t know how long, but they should be out for just enough time”  

Junior gazes at Lily, as her thin frame looks so fragile it could break if held to tight- “how- how did you beat those guys” Junior mutters.

Just as Sammy buckles Kyle in, Lily and Junior leap into the car and the group drives off.
