Chapter 6.
Journey.
In the morning, while Ritchie was frying a couple of eggs and bacon for breakfast with his grandfather and brewing coffee, the door rang again and this time when he opened it it was not the officer, but a detective who had come to bring a small gift from the officer to the grandfather; and upon seeing the suitcases in the living room, the detective asked: ¿has anyone come to the house?, and then the young man simply confessed: no, in fact we are going to be away for a few days.
Just then the grandfather was coming out of his room in his pajamas and when he saw the detective he asked him: ¿what happened now? It has become more than clear that we are neither accomplices nor are we the murderer, to which the detective commented: that is clear grandfather, the officer simply sent him this small detail to thank you for your cooperation, to which the grandfather received it and said: thank you…
And being a little more nosy, the detective asked the grandfather… ¿Where were they going on a trip? So the old man told him that they would be visiting the grave of their relatives in the Republic of Magnivia, that they would be away for a while.
To which the detective asked him: ¿and who is going to take care of this property? ¿Do you already have someone who is going to do it? And the grandfather told him: No, no one is going to stay here because I am going to take the boy, I cannot carry weight and my grandson is the only thing I have left.
So the detective made him a proposal telling him that what seemed viable to him was that while the investigation was going on searching for the murderer, and they let him use the property to rest, since he lived on the outskirts and it took him a long time to get here.
To which the old man said: Sure man, I just don't want you to break anything or modify the structure of the place, for the rest you can stay... The grateful officer said: You don't know what a relief it has given me today, it has been a pleasure to meet you Mr. Yurik, my name is Santiago Serpia, I am a 38-year-old detective.
Then, old Yurik said: I suppose you already know my name and my grandson's too, so Santiago, feel comfortable in this place if we come in, we won't be here.
Don't worry about paying me anything, just taking care of the house is enough payment.
Saying goodbye to the two men, Santiago told them that he would be here with his things before nightfall… And so Ritchie told him that they would wait for him to give him a copy of the house key and the bills he had to pay for using the entire property while they were gone.
Santiago had no problem accepting it, because he knew that it was the least he could do, since he was not paying direct rent, meaning that paying for utilities was completely legal and honest in this case…
