===Canan===
It's hard having a sister who can forsee the fate of all. It was like having a sibling who was hiding a secret suprise and you were never sure if the surprise would be good or terrible. That was the feeling I always had when asking Adrestia for advice. She was always so vague about what I needed to do and seemed to never truly care if the result was bad or good because it was my fate and in her eyes that could never be changed this was the balance she had to abide to despite the arguments of others.
"Isn't she always on time?" My younger brother Jesse mumbles.
He's a demigod like me and a new age one for that matter meaning we have no real powers since humans don't know of our existance and we are just as strong and mortal as any normal person.
I sigh and look into my cup of black coffee. "Typically and that has me worried."
"Why is that?"
I lift my head up to look across the booth to him. "It means more than likely mother has stopped her."
He lifts his head up then slowly nods lowering his hat. "I see," He looks out the large glass window then to me again pushing his sunglasses higher. "And why does this include me?"
I rub my hand against my chin and shrug with a raise of my brows. "I have no idea. Our sister had requested you to come."
"And that has me worried." He points a weary finger to me. "Does that not have you the slightest bit concern?"
I shrug again this time with more emphasis. "Why would it."
"Our sister never calls on us for no reason."
I move my hand to my cheek to lean against it. "This is true but I'm sure she has her reasons."
Were quiet for a moment and I watch as the cogs in his head start to turn as he stares out the window. "You did something didn't you."
I shake my head in denial. "Besides mother and my arguments. No I have done nothing."
"Then you called Adre for advice." I'm quiet at that and he frowns. "When you said she wanted to get coffee you made it sound like it was random."
"Nothing is ever random with her."
"True but you made it sound like she wanted it." He shakes his head and leans back with an annoyed grin. "You needed her help didn't you."
I open my mouth but before I can speak a tall women dressed in all black with deep dark hair and pale skin walks into the cafe. She's wearing a pair of large sunglasses that she pushes higher onto the bridge of her nose as she scans the cafe, then she spots us and grins.
She approaches us the heels of her shoes clicking against the marbled stone floor with every step.
"Jesse, Canan," She grins slipping beside him. "It's been so long."
"It's only been a month." Jesse retorts.
She chuckles softly looking to Jesse with affection. "Yes your right but I meant Canan." She peers at me now. "How have you been brother?"
"Better without mother's watchful eyes."
She leans back in the seat. "Oh she still watches make no mistake about that."
I roll my eyes. "I can tell as soon as I moved out she kept calling me and visiting."
She smiles wide her red lips rimming her pearly white teeth. "Your her trouble child who she sees so much promise in. Of course she's going to watch you closely. You can never escape the eyes of a Goddess as ancient as her but you maybe able to persuade her."
Jesse frowns. "I'm lost what did Canan do."
Adre turns to Jesse and smiles even wider. "Canan found a Goddess."
He swivels his head between us then gulps and looks to me. "Really? How did you find her? What's her name?" He pauses. "Actually more importantly what is she the Goddess of?"
"Slow down Jesse." Adre whisphers gently. "You will have as much of a involvment with her as Canan will."
We both look at her in shock. "What?"
"You heard me." She crosses her arms. "You need each others help if we want mother to stop depending on humans so much and end her antics once and for all."
"Are we going to kill her?" Jesse whimpers.
"What!" Adre furrows her brows. "Gods no. What? No, Jesse, that is our mother!"
"Why would you think that?" I ask.
Jesse throws his hands up at the table in defense his voice going higher. "We were talking about ending her intense parenting and no longer needing humans."
"Jesse," Adre says sternlly. "I'm talking about ambrosia."
"Ooh" He says nodding his head. "Yeah that makes a lot more sense."
I sit back surprised there was no way she was talking about the food of the Gods. It was foretold to have sustained the lives of the Gods or at least that's what mother always said when she would complain about it no longer being obtainable but I don't actually know what it is or how it is made.
I shake my head in disbelief. "Where are we going to get ambrosia Adre." I frown.
She smiles micheviously and I hate it. "You'll find out in time but I'll give you this little bit of information-"
We both cut her off with a groan.
"Stop complaining." She hisses. "Everyone is always complaing that I'm too vague when there are rules I have to follow to be sure that I don't tamper with fate."
"Why don't you?" Jesse interjects.
She sighs. "There is a balance which even I have to adhere to. This is the way of the universe. This is how it's always been and always will be."
I rub my hands against the warmth of my cup. "What is ambrosia?"
She smiles at the question. "You know that we Gods can only survive off of the belief of humans correct?"
"Correct." We say in unison.
She smiles. "When civilization was still young and the the humans believed us to be true Gods we had the collective belief to sustain us and did not have a need to make deals with mortals. Now the deals we make are concentrated belief it's the belief from a person who shares the belief people have in that one person with us."
"What?" Jesse frowns.
Adre gestures her hands. "We share our powers with someone who has influence they then have the ability to give us the belief people have in them. It's an exchange we give our blessings they give us their belief that's why we make deals so that it is solidified with no loop holes. Now what ambrosia is is the belief of a human and a God concentrated together they see the fruit of their belief in each other in a physical form."
I furrow my brows as I clench the cup. "So why don't we see that with mother and her clients."
"Three reasons mother doesn't truly give her belief to her clients it is why she has so many, a God must make a deal with only one mortal and the most important thing is the doves."
"The doves?" Jesse mumbles
I nod. "The doves were the ones that brought the ambrosia."
Adre nods. "And they are the only ones who know where the trees that bare the fruit of a Gods and a mortals belief is."
"Okay," I bite my cheek as I think. "Where do we find them."
She shrugs. "If it was my fate I would have already had them."
"But you know where they are."
"It does not matter if I know where they are they will not listen to me."
"Can you tell me where they are."
She shrugs again and i'm annoyed. "Adre please I don't want mother to do what I think she's going to do."
"And would that be making the sweet muse of love poetry fall in love with you?" She has a smug smile on her face like she's teasing me about a crush.
I look into my cup and mumble. "You're not being helpful."
"Erato?" Jesse asks surprised. "You found a Goddess of the arts?"
"Not just any Goddess." Adre chimes in a singsong voice. "Erato, mother's favorite muse."
"And she does little to hide that she wants her for power." I groan crossing my arms.
"A Goddess falling in love with a demigod would obtain mother a couple hundred years, it has been so long since shes had two in the same timeline."
"I don't understand" Jesse frowns beneath his sunglasses. "Why does mother just not make her fall in love."
"Gods are harder to control then mortals." Adre and I say in unison.
She smirks like she knew I'd say that.
"She can make any mortal fall in love but when it come's to forcing God's to fall in love. It's much harder especially when they've now existed just as long as us."
"Which is why we need to stop mom before she hurts me or someone else." I say taking a sip of my drink.
Jesse turns to Adre. "So where do we find the doves?"
"They will find Canan." She says peering at me through her sunglasses. "And all you have to do," She says looking back to Jesse. "Is make sure you help your brother when he needs it."
"I can't gurantee that," He sighs holding a hand up. "With the filiming of my new show and marketing for it I may not have time."
"Considering you wish to meet the muses you will find time." She smirks pleased.
"Muses?" He turns to me his mouth gaped open in surprise. "What are you stupid?"
"What do you mean?"
"Are you and I not artist?"
"Oh please I'm a professor and you are a barley capable social media influencer."
"No, no, no dear brother I am an actor who is about to have a break out role."
I roll my eyes. "Oh please."
He stands up now and leans over the table. "Oh please indeed, you need to make that muse fall in love with you, any of the muses I don't care and use them to make our whole family successful artist."
"I'm not going to do that Jesse, and-" I grab his arm. "Sit back down." I sigh. "We don't need more money."
I glance to Adre who reaches to take a sip of my coffee smugly then frowns at the bitter taste.
"Not money Canan," Jesse groans sitting down. "Fame brother, influence they have the great power to do that." He groans softly. "Well at lease make a deal with one of them."
"I won't do that either."
"Unfortunatley you have to." Adre mumbles taking a sip of Jesse's drink now. "Or maybe fortunatley?" She wonders.
I furrow my brows. "I'm sorry but what?"
She dabs her red lips with a napkin. "You heard me, make a deal." She folds her hands together and looks me dead in the eyes. "Make a deal with Erato."
I sneer. "What, no I won't."
She leans over the table articulating her words. "Why not?"
"Because-"
She cuts me off. "Because she's not docile?" Adre says gesturing her hand in a circle. "Because she's aggresive? Or maybe it's because she's headstrong. Or pherhaps it's because you'd much rather have her sweet sister as your contractor instead of her."
I lean back and gulp.
"This isn't a debate Canan this is fate. There is no other way you will find the doves without her, so you will make a deal with her even if you don't want to. Make no mistake about that." She points a finger at me. "How's that for helpful."
