Dad asked as I stomp down the stairs with my tutor in tow.
"Don't ask me that when my tutor is right here. I bet she has a more positive report"
I reply as I trudge towards the kitchen and open the fridge looking for anything to eat or drink.
"So I'm guessing good?"
Dad asks as he looks towards my tutor.
"She performed well enough to pass"
"Well that's a nice way of putting it"
I retorted as I close the fridge with orange juice in hand.
"I barely passed and that's thanks to someone's amazing tutoring"
I sport a smile that says it was not thanks to her tutoring that I beat the cutoff mark by one! She couldn't
even teach right since she was busy being scared of my red eyes.
"Well at least you did. Now, you can start your last year in high school without retaking any classes"
Dad said as he looked pointedly at me. Yeah I get, be nice! I roll my eyes as I take a cup out of the cup rack and chug down orange juice.
"Thank you so much for your help"
Dad says to the teacher. I wanted to laugh out loud at my teacher blushing at gratitude she does not
deserve when I choke on my juice. She looks at me with a sickeningly satisfying smile and I suddenly feel
an urge to throw my juice in her face. I almost make good on that thought when dad clears his throat. It's
like he read my mind.
"It was my pleasure. Now, I really do have to go. Goodbye Mr.Caddel"
She says the as she trots out the front door.
"Pleasure my ass. She wanted to be done with the contract as soon as I looked her in the eyes after she signed it."
I say as I plopped next to dad on the sofa with a bag of chips. Dad eyes the bag and I suddenly feel defensive
"What? At least I drank a cup of orange juice, and they're supposed to be healthy. So, this is a balanced diet"
I shrug. Well I'm not wrong, technically. Dad has always been a stickler for anything healthy. Though he has his relapses.
He sighs, kisses my forehead, stands up and starts climbing the stairs toward his room
"You should really start packing. We're leaving on Sunday, AKA, the day after tomorrow"
He calls over his shoulder.
"Yeah yeah"
I sigh, wondering why we don't just push up the moving date. It's not like I have anyone to visit or say
goodbye to, and I bet the neighbours will have no complaints (the only thing I'm sure we have in common).
Since elementary school, I've had no friends. Everyone was always wary of me because of the color of my
eyes and hair. They are both red and everyone acts like I am an alien who came down from space! I'm
human too! And to top it off my dad (Ryan Caddel) has auburn hair and blue eyes and my mum (Lisa
Caddel) had blonde hair and brown eyes which lead everyone to suspect that I was not their daughter.
Because of the constant pressure from family members, the increasing worry for my sake, and the fact
that dad was pissed when mum was accused of being immoral, dad and mum decided to take a paternity test
which proved that I was indeed their daughter. This quieted down the rumours momentarily but it rose up
again after mum's death. This time it was more vicious calling me a "She-Devil" and becoming a villain in
children's fairytales. These unsavory rumours followed me to high school. My high school days were on the
road to being hell as usual until....
No. I will not think about...that!
"Leelee!"
"I know dad! I'll start packing in a sec. And don't call me that!"
I sigh and stand up, putting my empty bag of chips against my mouth to eat any left over crumbs. After
eating then all, I throw it in the trash can in the kitchen and walk up to my room.
Instead, I'm going to forge a new beginning. No hiding who I am from anyone. And if it turns out like it was here, I don't mind helping someone loose a few teeth.
