No Future: Fate

I Hate Change P.2

I Hate Change P.2

Sep 19, 2024

Andrew's awkward introduction to the schools rather passionate drama club passes as the school day continues and finally comes to an end, Andrew’s sister meeting him in the hall that held his locker as she usually did. Andrew telling her all about how his introduction to the drama club had gone as they make their way out of the school.

Alissa tries not to laugh at the scenarios that Andrew was describing to her. “You’re serious? God, I thought the stories about the drama club being filled with a bunch of weirdoes was just an exaggerated rumor. Art kids really are weird.”

Andrew lets out a short yell, it all too much for him. “This is crazy!!! How the heck is THIS supposed to help me on the road to becoming a vocalist!?”

Alissa shrugs her shoulders. “I don’t know… maybe you should find another way?”

Her brother shakes his head no, unwilling to give up just yet, his future and all happiness he might maintain in it on the line. “No! I have to go through this. If I can’t do this then I can’t be a musician! Then I’ll have to be a doctor if I want to avoid my fate as a fast-food worker!”

Alissa gives Andrew a supportive smile. “Well then… you’re just have to keep at it!” She bumps shoulders with him encouragingly. “Don’t worry! I believe in you! If anyone can become a singer, it’s you!”

“Aww thanks Alissa.”

The warm moment is interrupted by the harsh tone of a young boy. “This isn’t enough to make you become a singer, you’re going to have to do more than this.”

Andrew looks ahead of him, spotting the boy with his long blonde hair tied back standing just outside the fence of their school, he no longer dressed in his strange uniform he had been dressed in when Andrew had first encountered him, and instead wearing clothes any normal kid that looked his age would be wearing. “Where the hell did you come from?!”

Alissa grins widely as he lets out a giddy squeal, running up the boy and hugging him tightly. “Oh hey there Aeon! Did you come here to meet and walk us home? You’re so sweet!”

Andrew is much less happy than his sister is with Aeon’s presence. “You get lost! You’re not welcome here and I didn’t ask for your opinion.”

Alissa looks back at Andrew while still hugging Aeon. “Andrew! That is no way to treat your adorable little cousin. He’s family after all!” Andrew rolls his eyes in response, Alissa letting go of Aeon as she begins to walk toward home, glancing back to Aeon to reassure him. “And don’t you worry Aeon! My brother will become a singer no matter what! It’s really important to him so he’ll do anything it takes!”

Aeon looks over to Andrew, the two not getting along, this not something looking to change any time soon. “I hope so.”

Alissa pats his head, endearingly. “That’s the spirit!

Aeon stares at Andrew while talking under his breath. “I would be mad to find out I was wasting my time on a hopeless cause after all.”

Andrew lets out a sharp gasp of disbelief. “I heard that!”

“So what if you did?”

Alissa sighs as she looks the both of them over. “Come on you two, it wouldn’t hurt for you to get along. I mean you share a room now so if you get mad at each other you’re not gonna have any space to yourself!”

Andrew groans at the reminder, holding his hand out to Aeon while questioning what his sister had just said. “Alright, seriously? Do you and dad not find it strange that an aunt that we never talked to in our whole lives, decided to leave us her two kids after she dies? What is this? Are you not seeing the holes in this story?”

Alissa doesn’t seem to see what Andrew saw so weird about it. “I mean… it was shock I guess, but I’m not too surprised. When Mum was around she was always really quiet about her family since she didn’t get along with most of them, so I’m not surprised that we have relatives we don’t really know. We do know she said she had a big family growing up, so there’s probably all kinds of people we haven’t talked to in it!”

Andrew begins to whine, it not making sense. “It’s a lie! He’s not even human! He and the other are some sort of mythical time lords that can transport dead versions of me from the future through time!”

His younger sister frowns at the accusation he had made towards Aeon. “Just because you’re upset that you have to share a room doesn’t mean you can go about making up such obscure stories about them.”

“Apparently they also have the ability to hypnotize people and convince them they are relatives!!”

Aeon shakes his head no. “No we don’t.”

“Then how are you here?!”

His sister looks over to him. “Andrew please, this is stupid.”

Andrew stops pushing it, it clear that anything he said wasn’t going to get anywhere, the three finishing their walk in silence until they arrive at the apartment building they lived in. Alissa running over to look into the parking lot at the side of the building, the spot their dad would be parked in if he were home empty. “It looks like dad’s not home from work yet, I guess we get the apartment to ourselves for a while!”

She walks toward the apartment building, Aeon looking to Andrew, who has not yet started following his sister inside, he instead staring at him with an annoyed look on his face.

Aeon speaks up, still hung up on correcting a comment Andrew had made about him a while ago. “I’m a god of time. Not a lord.”

Andrew lets out a frustrated scream as he quickly storms away from him heading toward the apartment building. “Same damn thing!”

Aeon follows after him that not true at all. “It’s not even close!! Lord is a title that implies having authority over something, while a God is the creator or personification of such thing, with not only authority but power and control over it.”

No mater how fast Andrew tries to walk to ignore the conversation he is unable to leave the boy behind as he continues his lecture. “To insist they are the same thing is more than just wrong, it’s ignorant!”

He enters his apartment storming over to his room and opening the door, Andrew letting out a load groan when he finds the second of the two intruding gods in his room, sitting on his bed and looking over the laptop that usually sat on Andrew’s desk. “Urg… you guys are everywhere!”

Era, the boy with the short messy hair, holds up the laptop he had been looking over, laughing loudly at it. “Look at this thing! It’s so huge and old!!”

“My dad bought me that the beginning of the school year! It’s practically brand freaken new!!”

Era grins in amusement, that making it even funnier. “Human ingenuity is hilarious!”

Aeon walks up to Era taking the laptop away. “That’s not what we’re here for!”

Era laughs at the reaction. “Calm down, you’re acting like we don’t have years of this job ahead of us.” His partner sighs, Era having a point about that.

Andrew takes the laptop from the both of them, putting it back on his desk where it belonged.
“Why are you two here anyway?”

Era looks over to Andrew. “I thought that was explained to you days ago. It should have been explained to you when we first appeared.” He looks over to Aeon. “You were the first one to run into him, that means that you were supposed to explain the situation to him, did you not do that?”

Aeon looks annoyed that Era would think he would have forgotten to do something so important. “I did!”

Andrew gives a rundown of what he understood of the situation. “Death kills me by mistake, you guys had to tell me about it so I would have the opportunity to live my life to the fullest with the amount of time that I have. You two did that already so why are you still here?” He seems more than just a little annoyed by the situation, the two after all intruding in his room and forcing him to share it with them. “Why not just tell me to live my life differently and then leave me alone and go away? Or at least spy on me from afar or something so that you’re not here in my room!”

Era and Aeon look to each other for a moment and then back to Andrew, answering his question in unison. “Fate.”

Andrew stares at them expecting more to the answer, speaking up when he doesn’t get it. “Fate? That’s it? Just fate? What does fate have to do with you two being here?!”

Aeon insists on the opposite. “Fate has everything to do with it.”

Andrew grows more frustrated with this game the longer this continues. “You two are ruining my life! Do you understand that?! I don’t see how you can’t understand that, even the dumbest of people could understand that!!”

Aeon shakes his head no. “We’re enriching it and seeing to it that you live your life to your fullest. That’s the opposite of ruining it.”

Andrew gives up, there no point in arguing with that one. “How long are you two going to be hanging around anyway?”

Era gives him a big smile. “Until you die.”

Andrew lets out a long, loud and frustrated scream. “Why?!”

The time gods again respond in unison. “Because of Fate!”

His frustration with these two mounts as Andrew angrily yells out a response. “Screw fate!!”

Aeon looks horrified over the idea. “That would be inappropriate.”

Era on the other hand looks slightly amused by the suggestion. “Not to mention really awkward…”

“F*** off!!”

Aeon looks to get more and more frustrated with the way that Andrew is speaking. “Stop saying that! Why are you so obsessed with insisting that we go and-”

Andrew cuts him off. “Damn it! Stop taking my cursing so literal all the time!!”

Aeon frowns crossing his arms and staring at Andrew with an unimpressed look. “You don’t have the powers necessary to lay a curse.”

Andrew gives up and just stand in place completely silent, there no point in reacting anymore, as whenever he did the conversation would be taking the wrong way or escalate in its confusion. He heads to the door of his room, leaving despite having just gotten home.

He slams the door behind them, a light looking to go off in Aeon’s head. “Oh, that’s right. Humans use many words related to reproduction to insult one another!” He looks to Era. “You should have said something.”

Era shrugs his shoulders. “It’s funnier not to.”

Aeon looks to the door, knowing that he should follow but really not wanting to. “I need a break from dealing with him… you can start following him now.”

Era looks up from the papers he is snooping through as he goes through Andrew’s messy desk. “Am I scheduled to take over now?”

“There is no schedule.”

“I thought I told you to make a schedule.”

“The schedule is you watch him when I tell you to!!”

Era seems surprised to have his partner push this. “Yeah, alright, ok, I got it. I guess we could do it that way too.” He heads toward the door of the room. “If this is the point you start getting overwhelmed with him you’ve got a very tedious time ahead of you.”

Andrew is outside on the lawn of the apartment, pacing back and forth while ranting about his unbelievable situation. “I can’t believe this is happening to me! What did I do to deserve this crap?!”

A girl with long blonde hair and large glasses spots him while making her way out of the building. Recognizing and calling out to him. “Oh, hey Andrew!!”

Andrew lets out a frustrated groan. “Why does no one call me by my artist name?! It’s SIN!!!” he turns around to face her, pausing for a moment when he doesn’t recognize her right away. He stares for a moment trying to place her, she did know his name after all, so that meant that he should probably know hers in return. Finally it comes to him, she from the drama club he had been introduced to today during lunch. “Oh hey, it’s one of you guys… Juliet right?”

She lets out a shy laugh over being called that name outside of the club. “Only during club meet ups! Outside of the ring I am known as Hannah.”

“I see…” He seems surprised to run into her at his home of all places. “What are you doing here?”

Hannah is shocked by the question. “What? Are you serious? I live right in the same apartment complex as you! Don’t tell me you never noticed!”

Andrew glances around, not sure how to respond to this accusation. “Oh… sorry… you’re kind of not the type that stands out… so I guess I never really noticed until now.”

Hannah looks hurt by the comment as she timidly mumbles her response. “Oh… is that so… well… I recognized you right away… you stand out better than me I guess…” Despite how awkward things had quickly gotten she tries to push he flustered feelings down and continue the conversation. “So where are you headed?!”

Andrew seems unsure how to answer the question, he really hadn’t come out here intending to go anywhere in particular, he had just wanted to get away from the two time gods that had invaded his privacy and were living in his room, though that was not exactly something he could casually explain. “I dunno nowhere really… just away from home I guess? Home is just driving me crazy today.”

Hannah enthusiastically tries giving him a helpful suggestion, inviting him to come along with her. “Why don’t you come with me then? I was just heading out to drop off some books at the library. We could go together and look through the literature and play scripts they have there! You’re in the drama club right so-”

Andrew cuts her off her rambling before she could go further with it. “Yeah, I actually don’t like plays and acting, and that sounds really friggen boring-”

Era’s voice interrupts the conversation. “Hey, I apologize about that fornication comment that completely went over my partners head!”

Andrew places his hands against Hannah’s back and precedes to quickly power walk away from Era before Hannah can hear anymore of what he was saying. “I changed my mind, let’s go to the library.” He yells back at Era. “Don’t friggen follow me!”

Era watches him leave. “That’s not very ideal for me!” Andrew does not slow down, Era shrugging his shoulders. “I guess I’ll follow at a distance.”
