Upon flumping onto the sofa, Phim had forgotten that he had just turned into a large muscular steed of a Centaur. So, it didn’t take long for the sofa to groan and graunch, before completely collapsing under his weight and size. Sprawled on the floor amongst the sofa debris, Phim couldn’t help cursing and cussing. Today’s a bad day! Even a sofa is mocking me!! (┙>∧<)┙へ┻┻
Outside the door to the Guild Master’s office stood a short grey haired young man with big round furry ears, that were currently drooping, atop his head. His big brown eyes looked on the verge of crying, his long thin grey tail twitched in agitation and his handsome freckled face blushed in embarrassment. This flustered fellow was Timen Fortis, the Guild Master’s Secretary and the unfortunate person who had to call Phim into work on his day off. This was also the reason he was so flustered. Timen was a very timid and shy person, but even so, he was also once the top scout of the Saint’s Army directly under Phim’s command. So, in certain situations he’d be brave, strong and sometimes a bit intimidating. But this wasn’t one of those times.
Oooh! What was that bang? I bet Boss must be really, really angry to see that guy. Aah, I don’t want to go in, but I’ve got documents that need the Boss’s approval. Gasp! I just heard something break! Is Boss so angry he’s breaking things!? Will I have to go to the finance department to check for the costs of damage and budget for replacement!? Is my salary going to be docked this month!?
As Timen was overthinking, his magimob rang, he took it out of his pocket and answered.
“Hello, Guild Headquarters main Secretary, please state your business.”
“Oi Timen!” The caller yelled. “What the heck is going on with Boss!?”
“Hmm?” Timen tilted his head, his big eyes confused. “What happened?”
“That’s what I’m calling to find out!” The caller grunted. “He just used the magicon to communicate an order to all Guild branches and cut off before explaining the reason why!”
“He did?” Timen wanted to run away, Aaah Boss really is angry! Why’d I have to be the one who called him in to work!? “What was the order?”
“You’re his secretary and you don’t know?” The caller asked with a sigh.
“Well sorry if you’re comfy and safe in your Guild branch while I’m in front of the Guild Master’s door wondering if I should prepare to get fired by an angry Boss!” Timen erupted, his big eyes brimming with nervous tears.
“…What did you do?” The caller asked cautiously.
“…I was the one who had to call the Boss into work on his day off to face Erinasnl Mulam” Timen said pitifully, seriously why me? Why did that two-faced faker have to come here? “The bastard came to talk to the Boss and wouldn’t leave unless the Boss saw him.”
“…Wow, sucks to be you.” The caller sighed. “My condolences.”
“Why thanks for rubbing it in Bryan!” Timen puffed his cheeks in anger.
Bryan: He still sounds cute when he’s angry.
“Hey, take it easy⁓ I was just kidding.” Bryan chuckled. “Just calm down a bit. You know the Boss wouldn’t fire you over something like that.”
“...True.” Timen pouted as his pouty cheeks deflated, and he mumbled words of thanks before hanging up.
Timen put his magimob away, took a deep breath, perked his ears up and knocked on the door.
“Come in!” Phim grunted from the other side of the door.
Timen breathed in again as he opened the door and poked his head in to take a little peek at the situation inside. His big eyes widened in shock, he rubbed his eyes and looked again to make sure he wasn’t seeing things. Upon the carcass of what was once a sofa, laid a muscular Centaur, sprawled on the floor.
Timen slowly entered and gently shut the door. He tiptoed over to Phim and tapped him on the shoulder.
“Boss? A-are you alright?” Timen asked worriedly, What did that nasty thing do to our Boss!? Damn you jackass, just wait till Sir Luciel gets his hands on you! Hehe anyone who upsets the Boss, once it reaches the ears of Sir Luciel, cannot be saved.
“I'm fine.” Phim grumpily sighed. He retracted his sprawled-out limbs and stood up. “Urgh, interacting with that disgusting bastard is never a good thing.”
Timen breathed a sigh of relief.
Phim walked to behind his desk, shoved his chair into the corner of the room and lay down with his forelegs crossed over each other, his elbows leaning on the top of his desk.
“Seeing as I'm here already, I might as well get some work done.” Phim sulked, After all, it's not like my wife will be at home if I go back, he's visiting friends because of the change in plan ಥ_ಥ. “Tell me what needs to be done.”
“Yes Sir, actually there isn't much to do today compared to normal.” Timen passed over a thick wad of paperwork.
“...Yeah, not much.” Phim moped. He picked up the documents and looked through them one by one. Some, he signed his approval, some he discarded. Looking through the jobs that were currently listed as uncompleted, Phim's brows knotted more and more. Over the last several decades, there have been an increasing number of people missing, from all walks of life. Unfortunately, it’s normal for people to go missing due to various reasons, however, for all the missing people's last known location to appear as if the missing person had died is just plain weird. The reason they’re listed as ‘missing’ is because we never found their bodies and there were traces of a struggle between them and another person. But even now, we still don't have a clue on the missing people’s whereabouts.
Phim rubbed his brows.
“Timen!” Phim exclaimed.
“Yes Sir!” Timen stood to attention.
“Bring me all the branch Guild’s lists of uncompleted jobs!” Phim ordered; his expression solemn.
“Right away Sir!” Timen saluted, then strode out of Phim's office and rushed to the records department. After traversing many flights of stairs up and down, he finally reached the records department and headed straight to the archives room. As the Guild Master's direct secretary, he didn’t need to go through the normal formalities as long as he wrote a note to say what he took and why. He put all the uncompleted jobs lists since the Guild’s foundations into his magic bag, given the solemnity of Phim's tone and expression, Timen had a feeling that Phim would need all the lists on record.
He rushed back to Phim's office and positively knocked on the door.
“Come in.” Phim responded.
Timen walked over to Phim as he took the stacks of lists from his magic bag and placed them on Phim's desk.
“Sir, these are all of HQ's and the branch Guilds uncompleted jobs lists we have on record since the foundation of the Guild.” Timen reported.
Phim gazed at the pile upon pile of documents on his desk and lamented before cracking on with checking all the lists, It's going to be a long day... no matter what, I'm taking tomorrow off! I wanna play with my wife! QAQ
