Luciel shot high into the sky above the Academy, he condensed a platform of mana to propel himself further into the sky. Using all the strength in his legs to kick off the platform, he tucked in his wings to reduce the air resistance as he slipped through the barrier covering the Academy. Once he got to a certain height in the sky, he spread his wings to halt his ascent.
Looking down from his position, he could see the entire expanse of the city of Spes. He could see the Academy, with its streets lined with colourful flowers and blooming trees. Large water fountains at the Northern, Eastern, Southern and Western districts of the Academy. Large green fields used for sports and practice platoon battles. The Academy’s battle arena stood tall adjacent to the faculty office, where Ikol’s office was located. He could see the vast moat that surrounded the Academy walls and the bridges that connected to the roads into the city.
Just beyond the main gates of the Academy, he could see the building that was his dear husband’s great achievement, the enormous castle-like building, the Adventurer’s Guild. In the square that separates the Academy and the Guild, was a magnificent monumental fountain that was built in celebration of the war ending, as the symbol of the peace now between the two sides.
Surrounding the Academy and the Guild, the rest of the city vastly spread out in all directions, the houses all varying in size; from tiny to huge. Beyond the city, he could see seas of forests and numerous mountains with snow-capped peaks. Amongst the trees of the forest, he could just about make out a clearing with a towering thick tree that continued into the sky at the centre. His gaze filled with tenderness and joy, in that clearing stood his home with Phim and the children.
Luciel took a deep breath and felt invigorated, The air up here is as clear as always. His wings that were glistening in the sunlight started expanding, getting larger and larger. He beat his huge wings in the air, flying even higher, with no sign of stopping. If anyone had a good enough telescope to look from below, they’d notice that despite going higher and higher, Luciel’s silhouette’s size never changed.
Luciel reached the highest level of clouds that would be visible from the ground. He had no intentions of stopping however as he plunged right into them and continued on upwards. Breaking through the extremely thick layer of clouds, Luciel emerged from the other side, his hair damp from the wetness of the clouds, but he was feeling refreshed.
Surrounding him on all sides spread a vast fluffy cotton snow like sea. There were patches in the clouds here and there that appeared as if they were deep bottomless pits. The sky was an endless blue, however, it contained flying scaled giants that were going about their day frolicking in the sky. Glancing around, upon the horizon stood an enormous mountain, well, floating would be the more appropriate phrasing. Where Luciel was now, is called Erea ni Marret, otherwise known as the Skislands. These lands in the sky cannot be seen from the ground far down below, and these lands spread across the globe. These floating lands have been as they are since the dawn of time and were once the homeland of many ancient clans, however presently, only Luciel and the Dragon clans are aware of their existence.
Luciel always felt a sense of nostalgia whenever he flew up to the Skislands, It's been a long time since I could fly up here without feeling tired! It's great! It also means I can go to the archives and still be home for dinner. Now, to see if I've still got it. Luciel grinned as he took a pair of goggles from his magic bag, put them on, and crouched like a big cat ready to pounce. As he took a deep breath, his silver and teal wings trembled and glowed as they started to absorb the surrounding mana in the air, as a concentration of mana was building up at his feet, his wings were raised high and every single one of his muscles were tensed.
Once he'd absorbed enough mana, Luciel kicked off and flapped his powerful huge wings, shooting forward like a laser beam. The clouds where he was hovering just a moment before dispersed due to the sonic boom produced by Luciel’s sudden burst in speed, making it seem as if there was a deep jagged lake sized ravine in the Cloudy Sea. Even the clouds below the Skislands dispersed, leaving a clear gap in the skies above Spes. If the residents looked closely enough through a telescope, they would even be able to make out a ‘hole in the sky’.
Luciel was going at speeds beyond imagination, loving every second of it. His golden hair billowing behind him, his wings leaving an air trail as he flew. As he looked down through the gaps in the Cloudy Sea here and there, he could see that he had already long left the airspace of Spes and was already nearing the coast. Soon, through the gaps in the clouds, all that he could see below was the vast blue ocean. After he flew to an area that wouldn’t be visible from the mainland, he nosedived from the Skislands, using his wings to make himself more streamlined and reduce the air resistance. He plummeted at a great speed all the way down to the ocean, he spread his wings and braked at the last minute just before hitting the water. He skimmed the tips of his wings in the sea as he looped and took off, once again returning to the Skislands, leaving a sonic boom on the surface of the ocean.
Aaah! I've missed being able to do this! It's
the second best feeling ever, after my big bear’s body! There’s still nothing
that can beat the feeling of my big bear’s chest and booty body! Luciel was smug and laughing in joy as he
shot forward.
Luciel flew for several hours straight. The further he flew, the colder it got. It got colder and colder until there were ice and snow Skislands dotted about. He continued until he got to the biggest mountain in the world; whether compared to the mountains in the sky or on the ground, this was by far the biggest mountain that towered over the Skislands. It was so colossal that the tallest people of the Titan clans looked like ants in comparison and if the lighting was right, its silhouette could sometimes be seen from the ground, becoming the source of many legends. As whilst people have managed to create magiships and exploration ships, for both land and sea, they've never once made it to the thick sea of clouds, never mind the Skislands that lay upon them, they don’t even know they exist! So, they'd never think that the phantom sky mountain in legend, was actually real. It's known as Mt. Glacies-Titania.
However, Luciel’s goal was further above Mt. Glacies-Titania.
